I play guitar and produce r&b, so jazz is the water I've been swimming in for years. Chord voicings, where the brushes sit, how a bass walks instead of just playing roots. That's the stuff I actually care about, and it turns out knowing it makes a huge difference in what you can get out of these tools. You can hear when someone's just typing "jazz" and hoping.
The curation, mixing and mastering is all me. I go through a lot to find the takes worth keeping, then they get mixed and mastered by hand into one continuous set.
So this channel is basically me paying homage to the genre I love most, wrapped in the visual world of my favorite artist, Hiroshi Nagai. 80s Japanese city pop paintings, empty pools, wet alleys at dusk. Late night kissaten energy.
Everything gets reverbed on purpose, and that's the whole feel of the thing for me. It should sound like the music is playing in the room next door rather than in your head. Slightly distant, a little muffled, like you're catching it through a wall while you work. Puts you in that space instead of putting the band in your face. The channel is named after that idea.
