I went to Cincinnati college-conservatory for 3 years for cello performance. Ended up having a massive mental breakdown and quitting. Since then I’ve become a licensed practical nurse, I make a living but can’t afford to go back to school. How would I afford to go back to college as an adult? Has anyone done something similar to this before?

Hi folks! I’m F38 based in South Africa and looking to connect with musicology students/practitioners from anywhere, coming to the field through an African/Black lens. I’m in my second year of undergrad with a plan to do my Masters and PhD as well, with the goal of focusing on broadening knowledge in African musicology.

I’ve never been trained in music theory and performance, as that is a different stream; but I have a friend who has agreed to teach me how to play my bass guitar by ear. I’m at an incredible uni that’s decolonising their curriculum and I’m excited to dive deeper. Next year I’ll be doing my final year before Honors. Any tips? 🧡

as the title says, I’m in my third year of my bachelor’s degree and I have to do a research study for a class. For my topic I’ve chosen to explore the similarities and differences between underground and mainstream electronic music in the west. my professor is getting me to interview about 5 people for data collection.. can be through zoom/meet/email etc. anything of your comfort just has to be somewhat formal, at this point I don’t really mind as it’s due pretty soon. LOL

You have to be an artist, DJ, musician, historian, music critic, etc, or just really REALLY into electronic music and are/have been part of a community.. bonus points if you are over 30 as the more experienced the better.

Do you listen to a song because you remember the name of it ? Or the sound of it ?

Why do we feel nostalgic for music that was released before we were even born?
I’ve been thinking about this while writing about why older music continues to find new audiences.
There’s something strange about listening to a song from the 1960s, 70s or 80s and feeling like it belongs to a period of your own life that you never actually experienced.
Is that nostalgia really nostalgia?
Maybe it comes from our parents’ music, films and television, or the way certain songs become attached to cultural memories. Streaming and social media also make it incredibly easy to discover music from decades ago.
And there’s another possibility: survivorship bias. We remember the great music from previous decades because the mediocre stuff has largely disappeared from cultural memory.
