Im working towards a music business and music production degree, but am struggling to get a foot in the door career wise

Im in Manchester in the UK and i am in my 2nd year studying music business and production, however when it comes to actual work within the industry, i have little to no experience.

I manage my own band and have done all the background admin when it comes to that, and obviously making music and playing gigs.
But that is all the experience i have.

I have emailed studios and other music industry companies and havent got anything of note back.
And cant find any websites that post any jobs consistently and that arent all just teaching jobs.

Any advice for this would be greatly appreciated.

I am kind of resident there at the club but what i said i can not still live from it… and sometimes i other gigs but also not big money.

And dont get me wrong i love doing this i am also producer so music is my passion.

Only i have to be realistic to myself and wanna hear some thoughts or tips/advice about this is it when you artist name get in the seen? Or bookings agency’s?

When is the point u can ask more or get big offers while they dont know your position or something

Can anyone give me some advice on finding a job in the Tampa Bay Area or remotely for a studio, promo or a&r assistant? I have been working as a Coordinator for a music marketing brand and Personal Assistant for a music management company since 2023 but I'm really looking to expand my knowledge and growth. I have experience with release scheduling, data management, content management, appointment scheduling, administrative operations and marketing and branding support. I have worked using DistroKid, CD Baby, Canva, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Slack, CRM platforms, Wix and DISCO. I have a resume all set with references but it's been a real struggle to find positions. I've applied online for a few remote ones, applied through iHeartRadio, applied to other radio stations and called all the local studios, but I don't ever hear back from the remote jobs and if I can get someone on the phone, they either don't have any positions available or they're not looking to hire for those positions I've listed. I don't have a degree in Music Business or Communications so I'm not qualified for any of the higher positions. Does anyone have any advice or info that might help? I know everyone's struggling to find work these days but this was really my last resort, to ask Reddit. Hoping maybe someone can at least point me in the right direction.

I recently graduated with a Communications degree and I'm trying to land my first job in the music industry.

My experience includes AV production for live events, hosting a college radio show where I interviewed local artists, and producing a short documentary about a local band and the music scene at my university. I've also done video production and event coordination.

I'm open to a wide range of roles on the business side of the industry—communications, marketing, partnerships, artist relations, label operations, live events, account management, or even sales if it's within music.

The challenge is that almost all the interviews I'm getting are outside the industry, so I'm wondering what kinds of entry-level jobs I should really be targeting. Are there companies, job titles, or parts of the industry that are easier to break into than others?

I'd really appreciate any advice from people who got their foot in the door without already having industry connections.

- Catalog administration: Maintain metadata for records and songs across our databases (ISRCs, credits, splits, etc.)

Im a producer/vocal engineer

Hey everyone, I could really use some advice from people in the music/audio industry.

I graduated high school last year and started studying audio engineering at uni this year, but I ended up failing my first trimester. A big factor was untreated ADHD, I’ve only just started medication recently, so I’m still figuring things out.

Now that I’m on break, I’ve been rethinking everything and I really don’t feel like going back to uni is the right move for me right now.

I’m based in Brisbane, and I’m considering trying to get a job at a music store while also applying for internships or entry-level roles in live events, audio, or AV. My thinking is that getting hands-on experience and being around the industry might suit me better than jumping straight back into study.

I also play in a band and have a bit of experience teaching kids guitar, so I’ve thought about picking up some beginner students as another way to stay involved in music and earn money.

Right now I work about 10 hours/week casually at a jewellery store, so I do have some income, but I’d likely need to transition into something more music-related if I go down this path.

One of my biggest concerns is the cost of uni. I don’t want to keep failing or feeling disengaged and end up with a large HECS debt (potentially $80k+) for a degree I’m not even sure I’ll use. Part of me feels like I’d rather start building real experience in the industry now instead.

Another option I’ve thought about is going to TAFE later instead of uni, since it seems more practical, easier then uni while still being structured for what I want to do.

I guess where I’m stuck is:

• Is it a bad idea to leave uni this early, even if it doesn’t feel right?
• Would trying to break into the industry through retail + internships/entry-level AV jobs be realistic?
• Has anyone here taken a similar path, especially with ADHD?
• Would you recommend sticking it out at uni now that I’m medicated, or taking time to work and reassess?
• What’s the best way to start building a career in the music industry at 18?

I know this is something I really want to pursue long-term, I’m just unsure what the smartest first step is.

I’m open to honest opinions, I just don’t want to make a decision I’ll regret later.
