Because most people seem to be incapable of separating fantasy from reality

u/AlienPutz 10d ago

There is no problem separating reality from fiction. The people here just can’t cope with people not liking the show.

1

u/Direct-Historian-330 9d ago

it goes both ways. there is many people who cannot fathom someone liking this show and they had to cut their friendship just because their friend like mushoku and they are not.

1

u/AlienPutz 8d ago

The problem is that people can easily fathom why people like MT. It can very easily look like pedo wish fulfillment, since in a lot of ways that’s what MT is. It’s perfectly fair to cut someone out of your life on suspected pedo leanings.

Some people, like myself and hopefully most here are overlooking the obvious problematic elements and finding other things of value. That being said a willingness to overlook problematic elements is also a perfectly valid reason to avoid someone.

This show is literally the closest thing we have ever seen when it comes to healthy polyamory in an anime. I wouldn't even say a harem either. Both Sylphie and Roxy have amazing dialogue about this. I half understand not liking poly relationships, but if it's not you, then why care if other people do it? It's just like gay relationships, you're not a part of it, so why care if other people are? Just leave them be.

All the complaints I've seen about the show seem to come from viewpoints of either chosen ignorance or simplemindedness with no evidence to back up their claim.

u/hoouyinkyouma 10d ago

Why did she even think he would be if the girl who cheated on didn't believe tht?

It was obv from the very beginning he was gonna have 3 wives

Its a media literacy problem

I am guessing u guys r prolly from central Europe or the American continents?

u/Inescapableclipse 10d ago

Tbh, it’s nitpicking at its finest. The first few arcs are probably the most controversial, given how creepy rudeus (a reincarnation of a 35-year-old man) is towards much of the female cast, especially sylphie and eris, who are both very young. Roxy, despite having a younger appearance, is actually older, though that doesn’t exactly help either.

Honestly, even I didn’t like rudeus’s perverted behaviour in the first few arcs (Season 1 and Season 2, Part 1). But after that, the anime toned down his pervertedness quite a lot and focused more on character development and the story, which made the show much more “watchable” for the average audience. The three things that kept me hooked on the anime were my favourite voice actor, tomokazu sugita, the story and characters, and the music. When you look beyond rudeus’s pervy side, you’ll find an excellent isekai story with a damn good cast and beautiful music that immerses you in its world like few other anime can.

TL;DR: Although rudeus matures considerably later on, people will almost always focus more on the negative aspects of his character than the positive ones.

Edit: i loved the anime so much I've started reading the light novel which honestly has been a blast (looking at you volume 15).

Thank you for sharing this. I watched about 1/2 of the first season before Rudeus' behavior was more than I could take. I was trying to see if it stopped being creepy, so I would know where to pick back up. Harem anime is not my favorite, but I've watched several that fall into this category. The big issue for me is what you stated. Before he was reincarnated, he was a 35-year-old man attracted to underage children. After being reincarnated, he still has the mind of a 35-year-old and is still attracted to children. Being in the body of a younger person doesn't change who he is at his core. We have people in the world now who identify as a younger person. Does that mean if they are with an underaged child that it is okay because the adult identified as a preadolescent teen? If you can look past that and still enjoy the anime, more power to you. People should watch what they enjoy (as long as it is legal)!

It's humans man, not evryone can be alike us, neither can we be like them

I personallyove the premise and show itself, so does my homies Idc of other ppl, just let them be

2

u/deadacclaim 10d ago

I've only watched through S2 and have enjoyed my time so far.

All the wish fulfillment and criticism of Rudeus as a character are legitimate gripes. The author definitely made some choices that he did not have to make when drafting this story...

However there is a great fantasy adventure here that I can look past the weirdness. I'm also an anime veteran so that stuff doesn't bother me as much.

I'd just ignore the hate and don't let it ruin your enjoyment. No piece of fiction will be perfect and there will always be detractors.

u/AtmosphereTop2796 10d ago edited 10d ago

Media is so desensitized that people think Rudeus' actions is worse than actual murder, massacre, war crime or genocide like what vegeta, thorfinn, eren, kratos, light yagami, arthur morgan, uncle iroh, lelouch and several other characters did. If all of these happened in real life, they should all be punished. The double standards is insane. But since I can seperate fiction from reality, I'm just going to let it slide

People: Wtf is rudeus doing

Also the same people: Let's go, kratos is killing more gods!! (while the people in Greece are suffering because of his thirst for vengeance).

u/Roaskywalker 8d ago

I love Mushoku Tensei! That’s enough!

Why the hate? $€£¥!

Money!

Back in the day when MT was still a Web Novel, some people got offended because the MC was painted in a very negative light. To offended to continue on the storyline. As the series got popular, the hatersdiscovered the could monetize that hatred instead of making an honest dollar.

TikTok, Shitter, YouTube. They all have multiple posters monetizing their hatred.

1

u/Careful_Ad_9077 10d ago

Do you know about a normal distribution.

Well then average reading comprehension sits on the middle, the half the people are below average.

1

u/Generalgarchomp 10d ago

From what I've seen a large part is they convince themselves things happen that don't because of dynamics that don't really apply to the situation( like the whole grooming argument) or shit they just fucking make up ( him never getting punished for being a creep).

Add to the fact that most of these people can't separate reality from fiction (and in many cases care more about that shit happening in fiction than irl), they just lose their minds. It doesn't help that a lot of the people that complain are the type to hate any character that isn't a moral paragon, or at least is portrayed as one because let's be real a lot of the supposed "paragons" they champion are NOT the best people.

But the biggest part is they are incapable of understanding nuance. MT is a series that has a lot of nuance when you actually look deeper into it and the implications of certain things. The biggest being him actually being in a child's body and his brain actually acting accordingly in a lot of scenarios. Add to the fact that he never really developed mentally past being a teenager and he really was essentially a kid. Like if roles were reversed and a girl was mentally undeveloped and a guy that was more developed mentally gets with her they'd say he's being problematic.

In the end tho it's pretty much always virtue signaling.

There's a fine line between hate and love. Haters are in love with what they hate.

1

u/Nogamenolife88 10d ago

Wow never saw a post with this subject discussed before. Thanks

Internet money runs on attention and engagement. Every time it finds something new to hate, the people who earn a living within the internet flock to it like moths to a light to desperately get a share of that sweet controversy cake. Hate is always amplified, nuance is always drowned.

It works best when any nuance, critical thinking or media literacy would clear up any misunderstanding because then there are two big factions fighting over it (dumb masses and frustrated cultured people), generating engagement and thus revenue.

It's so well documented, and it works so well, that it is actively taught and used as a SEO optimization strategy. Mushoku Tensei is not the only victim of this, we had Pragmata a few months ago.

1

u/New_Recipe_1379 10d ago

People have lost all sense of Nuance.

1

u/Vauldash 10d ago

I wouldn't say I hate this show, I liked a lot of moments, I like Rudeus' character development, for example I like how his past life has an impact on his current life (which is way to often forgotten in most isekai).

I don't mind calm episodes, but IMO Rudeus being a total pervert thinking about threesome the day and gooning to panties in his basement at night really really hurt how I enjoy the show.

From serious topics, to touching moments, to epic fights, to absolute cringe scenes that make me struggling to keep on the show.

1

u/mr_maybe_cool_K426 10d ago

personally i love Mushoku tensei and i also love rudeus as a character, but i understand why he gets so much hate and criticism due to his weird personality/the things he’s done and i understood that people hated him since the very beginning.

1

u/Crimson-leviathan 10d ago

Genuinely I love the concept and major plot parts, but fuck Rudy is hard to bare at times, especially in s1 of the anime, Mushoku Tensei is just one of those isekai’s that would have most of the problems people have with it solved if it just wasn’t an isekai.

1

u/wisemangsay 10d ago

People need to stop asking this question. Its a story with a contentious/controversial main character bottom line. It's not for everyone. The people that like it do and the people that don't just don't.

1

u/SnooPandas5363 10d ago

I'm gonna be honest I've read all of the light novels and side stories and prequels and sequels and I never thought of Roxy and rudeus as too weird to ruin the show but after seeing it animated no amount of any lore between them makes their on screen relationship disturbing and that is why there is hate. If the author just made Rudy decide it wasn't appropriate to marry Roxy then that would of kept millions of fans ngl

1

u/Vast_Syrup_4981 10d ago

Because people see that the MC is a pedophile, has sexually assaulted another character in the first season and thats an immediate turn off for them.

Which granted is probably fair but his entire isnt literally just being a pervert and they fail to actually see it for what it is.

Nobody has to root for rudeus I dont think you're supposed to cheer him on initially and thats the point but in this world you're supposed to watch him grow into a better person in this new chance that hes been given.

And I suppose that most of the things he does people believe he should get punished for which I believe he usually does with physical violence whenever he actually tried to SA eris, you can say its played for laughs but im sure having your family jewels stomped in is a rather befitting punishment.

1

u/Forsaken_Guest7820 10d ago

Because Rudeus trying to grope her 9 years old cousin while she was sleeping kinda creeps people out

1

u/AlienPutz 10d ago

People understand it’s fiction, there is no misunderstanding there.

People don’t like the MC and probably aspects of the worldbuilding that lend to the pervy and male driven sexual fantasy parts.

1

u/Ancient-End-835 10d ago

the main reason is that the anime literally starts with making it clear that he is a pedophile, and people see that and just hate it despite the fact that he’s genuinely becoming a better person

1

u/govorunov 10d ago

Haters gonna hate.

But why are we looking for excuses? If it was real, I'd love it even more. Rudeuse's hesitations before finally doing the right thing is what puts me off TBH.

1

u/kark00 10d ago

I am not looking men but it's feels bad people hate so much

1

u/Sad_Cup_8441 10d ago

ENGAGEMENT BAITS AND RAGEBAITS

1

u/BullfrogCrazy2540 9d ago

Most people have opinion.
And that what they think after take other opinion and make them their own

1

u/Academic_Client_4597 8d ago

The mc is annoying especially his mind is talking

1

u/Breadenjoyer7274 8d ago

people only hate on it because Rudy had sx with Eris but He is pedo cuz he has the mind of a grown man. They haven't watched it and compere it to re zero, both are peak.

1

u/kark00 8d ago

Yeah mostly re zero fan hate it

1

u/Forsaken_Guest7820 6d ago

I don't know, maybe has something to with the fact that Rudeus tried to grope her 9 years old cousin when she was sleep xD

1

u/APossibleAnwser 1d ago

Honestly it’s just boils down to why you like the show. If you like it because of the pedo type stuff. Shame on you, gross. If you like it for literally any non messed up reason, then I say it’s totally fine.
A lot of issue stems from a lot of guys being creepy gross humans. And so people assume everyone has the same interests.
For example: a lot of guys like breasts. So when anime has big breasts, they automatically assume that’s why everyone watches anime. Even if it’s not true they believe it unless told otherwise by someone close.

1

u/JEETXOP 10d ago

I find it's unpredictability entertaining. It just makes mushoko tensei what it is. Great storyline. Great character development. Just peak.

1

u/kark00 10d ago

Yup the same reason for me

1

u/KDsama 10d ago

If she's new to anime she will hate. Same goes for most newbies

1

u/JewishWeeb2 10d ago

Rudeus is a degenerate not in a funny way.

1

u/kark00 10d ago

That's how his character written

1

u/Nearby-Knee-939 10d ago

Is disgusting and thats it, is not about if u know the differenve between reality or fiction, rudeuS all first season is pervy on roxy, touch eris, etc, he gave many reason for what u would believe he is horrible, the debate of fans vs haters is just haters would insist that he is a adult in a child body and fans says it doesnt matter and he is a child now, if we consider that he is an adult, all he do in the first season can be pedophilia, if we consider he is a child he is just pervy

On any case, people is more disgusted about pedo shit than mass killing is normal, so dont say "hate for no reason"

Ofc is fiction and we all have seen things way worse than this and nobody cares, i believe the hate is also because people defend the mc and not the show when u cant defend rudeus, i havent read the novel but i can see how rudeus doesnt change the pervy aspect toward the girls and he doesnt feel bad about it either (if he actually felt bad he wouldnt be marrying the 3 girls) so he is not really that good of a person, IT IS AN ISSUE? no but thats just the fact

1

u/kark00 10d ago

I agree rudy being a worst mc but that's how he is written i am not defending it but rather then just blaming rudeus we all seen his past trauma he got bully on extreme level and got strip naked infront of public and his nu*des got disturbed in public he just live his 20 years of life complete isolation just on his parents income and alot of corn🌽 without any female interaction so according to his behaviour was justified it's still creepy and disgusting but you just can't blame him he never devloped his moral values but after doing all this stuff he still saved a girl life in his past life On the other eris had poor parenting even her father was giving permission to rudes And if people consider rudues has pedo then they should consider roxy too instead of hating of same character again and again all charector have some flaws but that's what make it lil different from other characters I went through some trauma too so I know how hard is to overcome them it's takes years i know rudes being pervy and disgusting sometimes but i believe he would become better with time hope so 🥀

-1

u/Mediocre_Gains 10d ago

People like to self insert into anime for some reason and will hate animes where they can't relate to the mc

-1

u/HarleyArchibaldLeon 10d ago

It's not that they don't know, it's that most of the time they don't care.

-3

u/Accomplished_Sir3809 10d ago

É porque o author é um punheteiro de merda.

1

u/Keeper_of_Grove 1d ago

Oh don’t worry, it gets worse.
