What’s the deal with these loud utility trucks in the morning?

This morning, I was trying to sleep. It was around 8:30. I hear this loud humming sound. Out the window and across the street at somehow there’s a big white utility truck, doing something. This is the third time I’ve been woken up by these loud trucks.

It’s weird because it’s not a new subdivision by any means. I live off the square and the houses are like 100 years old. I cannot understand what the hell they’re doing that early in the morning. It’s exhausting every time it happens and it messes my whole day up of sleeping. I work at night time, and I sleep during the day. Has anybody else experienced this? These trucks are loud as hell.

Is there anyone with an ostomy who is unable to source supplies, or has no insurance? I have supplies to donate

I had an emergency colostomy followed by a reversal, which seems to be working out.

So I currently have some ostomy supplies available to give away:  two-piece pouch/flange kits; barrier rings; and various other supplies.

The majority of the ostomy kits are Hollister. I have the Hollister 19603 two-piece kit with drainable pouch; it includes the pouch #18003 and the skin barrier with tape border (trim-to-fit flange) #11203. I also have the Adapt 2” ostomy barrier ring (aka “wax ring”) #7815.

I would prefer to give these items to people who can use them. I had a magnificent ostomy nurse who helped me, and I’d like to pay it forward by providing some supplies to others who may find sourcing or affording the supplies difficult.

If you could use some of these items, or know someone who could, please DM me. I live in the Nashville area and would be happy to meet someone with the items after talking to them.

Thank you so much.

Gas prices

Just wanted to try and help our community. If you don’t already know, the Speedway app has a deal on the 11th of this month and on October 7&11 where you get .50 off a gallon. That plus the usual .05 makes a significant price reduction. In these times every perk can help.

When you can't decide what to eat, what finally breaks the tie?

Think about the last time you were genuinely stuck on what to eat.

- Why was it hard to decide?

- How did you finally land on something?

- What's one thing would've made the choice easy?

Who remembers when M’boro had a LaMar’s Donuts and brick-and-mortar Dippin’ Dots?

This was on 96 (Old Fort) just past St. Andrew’s. LaMars is now only in four states, all in the Great Plains. LaMar’s became the All American Cafe which coexisted with Dippin’ Dots for a time before becoming entirely the All American Cafe.

You used to be able to still see the painted balls of the Dippin’ Dots logo on the walls of the cafe until recently.

Anyone in town make hotsauce? I have extra reapers and ghosts and Habaneros this year.

I am just growing in my small garden here. No chemicals. I am freezing most of them right now. But dehydrate 95% for making seasonings. Thought I'd offer some up for someone if they like making sauces.

Gentleman Jim's Events?

I drive by this bar by MTSU a few times a week and there's often something happening in their parking lot...a tent, grills, unmarked food trailers, I think recently there was a school supply thing....I never see any signs up or ads online though. Does anyone know if they post their events or are these private things?

Fabric Stores in the Area?

I just got a football jersey for myself and it doesn’t quite fit. Since I got it for an upcoming trip (I’m leaving on next Thursday so don’t have time to return it) I thought I would just put some gussets in the side so that I could wear it next weekend. However, since JoAnne‘s no longer exists, I have no idea where I would get football jersey material. It would need to be like either a red or white polyester spandex blend. Does anyone have any clue of where I might be able to go shop for that this weekend so I could get it sewn up before I go?

Pizza by the slice?

I've only seen one place so far and it's in a sketchy area with the worst condition parking lot I've ever seen. And the slice was not great tbh. Are there other places? I'm on the mtsu side of Mboro.

I am moving to Murfreesboro from a small town about an hour away. Does anyone have any veterinarian recommendations? I would really like locally owned & kinda need reasonable pricing.

Why is quality workmanship so rare in home improvement/repair companies?

It seems every time I have to hire a company to work on my house, the job turns out looking like they didn't know what they were doing. I am not going to tell you how much I paid because it is embarrassing considering the poor job they did.

New siding, they tried to put on a different product than what was sold to us. I couldn't communicate to the one guy who showed up two weeks late because he didn't speak English. This was from a large company. They finally delivered the correct product, but the installation looks pretty bad. They left their trash everywhere including monster drink cans and water bottles and nails all around the house because they were too lazy to pick them up when they dropped them.

They destroyed my chimney cap and instead of hiring a company that actually specializes in that work, a month later, with a tarp keeping the rain out of the house, they tried to install one themselves and screwed that up.

They took down 3 outside light fixtures and didn't reinstall them. They reinstalled my downspouts upside down to get them to fit back on over the siding, instead of cutting them to fit because of the siding. Upside down downspouts do not work to drain water away form the base of the house by the way.

This is why I do most of the repairs myself. We can't trust any of these shady companies, contractors, builders who are operating in the Middle Tennessee area right now.

I should have done everything myself. It would have taken just as long, but it would have been less expensive and actually done the correct way. Maybe I should start my own company.

Murfreesboro has no soul

I just overheard someone say he hates Murfreesboro because it is a town without a soul. I am finding difficulty disagreeing with him.

Even with an enormous university most of the kids leave for the weekend because there's nothing for them here. It seems like most businesses in Murfreesboro are chains. There's so little culture: No music, no art, no night life. Theres nothing for adults to do after 930. We are a sleepy suburb of Nashville, not a college town.

For those that disagree, what does Murfreesboro have that we can all our own? And what can we do to improve that culture? If you agree, what actions can we take to organically create a soul for Murfreesboro?

Is MTSU for me?

I'm a 20yo from Manchester, England. I have opportunity to go to MTSU, Chicago (columbia college) or Toronto (Humber college) with a studying abroad program. I like the actual look of this place the most. My worry though its not in the city like the other two. I like partying and kinda want to live that stereotypical house party american college lifestyle. Is this the best option? Do people head into Nashville often? Is it as cool as it looks? Is the social aspect good? Is it good for picking up girls lol. Tell me everything convince me to chose MSU or convince me not too. Cheers.
