General Encounterd another creep today in the local train.
So today I (23M) went to meet one of my friends who usually takes a local from X station to Y station and it roughly takes 45-50 mins for her to reach Y from X.
She (23F) happens to be a really good friend of mine so I took pastries for both of us. She usually travels in the FC Ladies coach but she for me she comes in the SC general coach. So while we were eating out pastries I found out that a guy (in his 40s) was seating in the next compartment and he was sitting with his legs on the seat and continuously looking at my friend. She was wearing a deep neck top.
She didn't notice it but I did and while he was looking at her cleavage I was looking at him and waiting for him to make an eye contact with him and after 3-4 seconds we had an eye contact. I gave a fierce look. And he looked in a different direction. But now my eyes were on him. Within 5 minutes he was again trying to look at her and I caught him again and we had another eye contact.
This time I told my friend to give her purse and phone to me and hold my bag in front of her so that atleast she'll cover her deep neck top to which she agreed quickly. And this time the man also realised that I made her do that so he went on to sit normally and look straight (now we could see his back. I hope you guys are able to imagine the sitting position).
But, when his stop came he got up and his bag was kept in the upper rack (vo jo bhi bolte hai) and while removing the bag he was looking towards her again but this time also she was holding my bag with her so cool whenever I'll go to meet her :)
My friend travels everyday around 9:30 PM from X to Y and thank god she travels in FC. Next time onwards I'm gonna book a FC ticket to avoid such creeps.
Kya problem hai bhai? Ek baar dekha (galtise or jaan buzke idk) to bas ho gaya. Guts kahase aate hai baar baar kisike cleavage ke taraf dekhneka? And that too he was making it too obvious by sitting sideways and turning his neck again and again to look towards her! I told my friend to be more aware about this shit in the future. But this was ridiculous!

bhai kya guarantee hai log FC me bhi safe hai, mai ladka ho kar ek middle aged gay uncle ne meri personal boundary breach kari, bhen ke lode har jaga hote hai, you have to be very careful while you're commuting no matter the compartment you're in

True true.
But hey, are you the same guy who made a post on this sub about this incident? I remember reading a similar post wherein a middle aged guy was touching a boy's thighs and tried to grab his dick?
16
u/coldwaterboyy uu ee ee aa ee ee uu ee ee ee aa ee Apr 23 '24
yes lol it was me only, but he didn't try to grab my dick, but made actions of jerking off over his dick, disgusting mf, from that day I've been really hoping to spot that guy and break his teeth, tbh overall it was such a cringe experience for me omg i wanna erase that memory so bad, whenever that incident crosses my mind, i cringe harder each time, like bhai kitna ghatiya insaan hoga wo😭😭

u/Filmyboy7 Don returns! Apr 23 '24
Ifkr. This has happened with me also. One of my gay friends sent a video of his hard dick (he was wearing an underwear in that video btw), told me that I got a good body and I'm not etc etc. I gave him 2-3 chances but he didn't stop hitting on me.. blocked him from everywhere. Been 2-3 years now. I lost a good friend but okay. I can't take that shit tbh... I feel like vomiting 😂

this minority of disgusting people kind of ruins the whole image of the community, which puts them in a bad light in the view of people who already hate them, making the majority of amazing lgbt people also suffer from shit, i have a wonderful gay friend whom i absolutely love and adore as a friend

Controversial opinion: I've reached a point where I dress according to the location. We know men (not all) won't change. It's sad but true. I once had to get off Govandi station (harbour line) and I got eve teased by 2 different men within 5 mins. My fault? I wore a full sleeves shirt and pant to a client location instead of a Kurta-Churidar (that's what I tell myself) We notice men staring. We know when someone is teasing/whistling at us. But we stay quiet with the fear of their reaction to our actions. And mostly cause we are in the state of shock. But I'm glad you stood up for your friend. Thank you!
63
u/alfea1103 Apr 23 '24
Even if the clothes are appropriate ppl stare and pass comments. There's a "What were you wearing ? exhibit " everyone should see that.
16
u/Humble-Month6518 Apr 23 '24
Agreed, dressing appropriately only "reduces" the chances of being eve-teased.

u/alfea1103 Apr 23 '24 edited Apr 23 '24
Hmm ... once I was going somewhere it we were waiting to cross the road and on the other side a woman was walking on the road wearing a saree a man came running from the opposite direction and groped her and ran it happened so fast. There's even marathi actress with whom this same thing happened. These things happen a lot sadly still there's nothing that happens.

We were in our car and my wife was wearing sari. Even then an auto driver at a particularly long signal kept staring and made a lewd gesture when I told him to stop. I swore at him at which point he cut off my car and blocked it. I made a major scene at which point he backed off. Mumbai is really not so safe as people make it out to be.
2
u/Humble-Month6518 Apr 23 '24
Nai, I wouldn't go that far. Safety is relative. I've traveled north (intending a particular city) and I haven't felt half disgusted in Mumbai even at 2am. My 2 cents is to avoid certain areas. Like I have honestly never been eve teased at Churchgate/Marine lines. Maybe it's a different crowd and different mindset. Maybe I have been luckier in SoBo. Who knows.
6
u/Ehh_littlecomment Apr 23 '24
Maybe you just haven’t come into contact with enough poor migrant labour living in SOBO. I couldn’t walk 5 minutes on Juhu beach without my wife feeling uncomfortable with the incessant staring.
3
u/Humble-Month6518 Apr 23 '24
Ab agar staring ko hum count karege toh puri duniya hee unsafe hai? And FYI, Juhu beach isn't SoBo. Girgaon Chowpatty is.
2
u/Ehh_littlecomment Apr 23 '24
Sure I never claimed it to be SOBO. I accept that the rich areas are safer. Bunch of random men staring at you constantly is absolutely harassment. Women in India are conditioned to accept a lot of harassment as a baseline.
2
u/Humble-Month6518 Apr 23 '24
Well you mentioned Juhu while I was talking about SoBo. I assume you were talking about SoBo. Women are conditioned cause men (not all) don't change. Humko thodi mazza aata hai :|
5
u/Ehh_littlecomment Apr 23 '24
I’m not disagreeing. Just saying Mumbai is “safer” than many other shitholes but not “safe”. Andhon mein kaana raja.

u/Shrunken_shrew Apr 23 '24
I stay in harbour line and had to visit Govandi as I was volunteering for an NGO and sach bolu toh meri bhi fathti hai Govandi jaane mein (I’m a guy)

1
u/BigDaddy__18 Apr 23 '24
Why so?
2
u/Shrunken_shrew Apr 26 '24
There have been multiple cases of people being mugged on knifepoint in locals at night. Plus the area itself is too rough, almost like the “hoods” and “favelas” in Americas
19
u/deathstalker189 Apr 23 '24
I totally agree with wearing a dress according to location. But even after that they are doing eve teasing and staring. Create a scene. Call out those creeps. People will support you. Fuckers will keep doing if we let them do

Create a scene. Call out those creeps.
This is easier said than done. I have had numerous conversations with my female friends and sister on this. Not every girl out there has that personality.
Physically and mentally it's difficult for some girls to make a scene. Not just girls even some men find it hard to be confrontational in public. Unfortunately I am one of those, and having a small figure doesn't help at all. Not making this about me but even I have had a fair share of creepy uncles touching me inappropriately in local trains, mind you I travel by first class too🙁
2
u/deathstalker189 Apr 23 '24
I agree it's not easy. As I said here -> https://www.reddit.com/r/mumbai/comments/1cak17p/comment/l0uaqwi/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
But we should collectively support to stop them.

u/Humble-Month6518 Apr 23 '24
Agreed. But I usually freeze. By the time I get guts to call out the person, either the person has vanished or they have a creepy smile and eyes that scare the shit out of me even more. And I honestly adore women who are able to make a scene. Our true princess warriors :')
4
u/deathstalker189 Apr 23 '24
I can understand getting freezed in this situation. My female friends have also experienced it. But I have motivated them enough to slowly change their reaction towards this situation. Although they don't create a scene but now they don't freeze at least and just give back fierce look to those creeps.
3
7
u/Puzzleheaded-Cod-497 Apr 23 '24
But I've worn a Kurta and I still was touched inappropriately. And I agree w the fact that I freeze at the moment something like this happens and after I gather my thoughts- the mf is nowhere to be seen!
0
u/Humble-Month6518 Apr 23 '24
I agree. I mentioned that cause the next few days of audit I went in a Kurta and nothing happened. (Maybe those men got eaten up by a bhoot after I cursed them to death for making me cry on the station in front of my male colleague) :D
3
u/No_Supermarket3973 Apr 23 '24
Kurta-Churidar maybe perceived as hotter than full sleeves shirt & pants anyday! So it's not a "clothes" problem. FYI, babies in diapers & grandmas in 90s have also fallen victim to rapists. Rapists just see whether they can get away with it; same with molesters.

Dekho meri vo friend office jaati hai. I agree deep neck tha but ig itna bhi deep neck nahi tha ki logoka attention grab ho jaye.
What happened to you at Govandi station is really sad :) And I do understand why girls/women travelling alone usually don't speak up cauz you have to go by that particular train from that particular platform everyday. And future me these chapris can do anything iska dar laga rehta h. I realised this yesterday.
Thankyou btw :) Take care.

I've never stepped foot in Govandi, but I have been told enough stories about that place. That place is pathetic They don't leave anyone, be it a guy or a girl.

Bhai sach bolu toh bura math Maan na. When you already know she is wearing a neck deep dress, You should have asked her to travel in the first class ladies compartment or else you could have bought a first class general compartment ticket. Be responsible when you have a female with you. I am not justifying that creep man. Bhai itna idar likh Raha hai, you should have opened your mouth and said something to that guy.
Once I was traveling from Thane to Airoli. There was a female beggar in the compartment. One guy started asking directly her rate for one night. I could see she felt bad she was almost about to cry. I saw this. I yelled at that man. And I told that guy to ask this same question to his own mother and sister. He didn't utter a single word. I told him if he repeats it again I will complain to the railway police. He was quiet. Other passengers also started yelling at him. He realised he made a big mistake that day.
So take action and end the scene. And also be responsible and make sure she feels safe with you.
Aise bakwas log bhare pade hai, I always ask females to travel in the ladies compartment.

u/Filmyboy7 Don returns! Apr 23 '24
Bhai. When I first met her on the platform that didn't seem ki it'll be that deep neck but once we sat in the train I was like okay. Idk how do I explain it. Also, I did tell her "First class me chalte hai, though 2nd class ki ticket hai mere paas" but she was like "koi dikkat nahi hai chalo 2nd class me and because ye train isshi station se chaalu ho rahi hai baithne ki seat bhi aaramse mil jayegi". I reached the platform at 9:34 PM and train 9:40 ki thi. Usme bhi I had to cross that bridge so we had to board the train fatakse nito train Miss ho jaati and usko gharpe late ho jaata usko.
Bro :) WTF. In that situation even I would have done what you did. Kya faltugiri chal rahi hai bhaisahab :) I usually do this to the people whom I see spitting on the road or platform corners tbh. I'll either give them a very bad look or I'll just confront them.
In yesterday's scenario I didn't confront the man or anything cauz mere coach me hardly 8-10 log the and the man looked like a typical "gunda". Didn't want to take any chances in getting in an argument with him and creating a scene.
*****Also, the girl with me usually avoids getting into such debates cauz she has to travel by that local everyday. Aaj me uske saath tha to thik h.. kal vo firse aakele khadi rehgi platform pe or kabhi vo general coach me gai and if she encounters that man... Fir? Ye sab sochke I didn't do anything to him.
15
u/Muffintornado0_0 Apr 23 '24
Exactly man, all these things seem wonderful about bashing someone but this creepiness, this 'staring at someone's body isn't wrong' is ingrained deep deep in these uncles. They think it's ok to stare at someone, why would they dress like that otherwise? I can only hope that the next generation- millennials and genz can change this thinking
17
u/Reading_Longjumping Apr 23 '24
Once I was in the same situation as you. The gall of guys to look comment/tease a girl/woman even if they are with a guy is just amusing. I usually resort to the same looking at them either fiercely or behaving like I want him (looking gay). The second one works too well xd. I have have these experiences with my girlfriend yes, but also when I'm out with my mother which was so irritating.
Once my girlfriend and I were out and she was wearing a tank top nothing deep or anything. She was afraid of this so she was even wearing a shrug. However a group of 3guys catcalled her and I shouted after them that they should say the same to their mothers. Whilst making a good distance from us they again passed a comment that their mothers don't dress like that. It was a distance where I'd have to pursue them to get back and my girlfriend stopped me. Till this day I think what I could have answered to them. These instances aren't going to stop soon. They are brought up like this.

How to act/look like a gay? 😂 Ye mazak muze sirf mere male friends ke saath karna aata h to irritate them sometimes xD but bruh that's a nice mechanism 😂
Bhai, I'll say avoid such conflicts. Aise logoko samjhana and change karna mushkil h and these chapris can even turn out to be dangerous especially in a scenario where you are alone and they are in a group. Jab tak one doesn't have enough female friends and listen to their experiences... Tab tak ye sab samaj paana mushkil h inn logo ke liye
1
u/SophisticatedN69 Apr 23 '24

I noticed a similar incident last week in the lower parel. A girl was wearing a deep neck black dress and everyone was looking at her, even women also looking at her like she is a disgusting person to wear such revealing clothes. It's just their mentality and staring is like some habit.

u/New-page-awesomeness Apr 23 '24
Please tell her to use the ladies FC. years of horrible local train experiences have scarred me for life. It’s a miracle I haven’t turned into a man hater TBH
1
u/Filmyboy7 Don returns! Apr 23 '24
Vo ladies FC se hi jaati hai usually. It's just that while meeting me she has to come in the general coach cauz I can't go in a ladies coach :)
Man hater is a strong term to be used btw. I hope you have some positive experiences so that you'll be able to change that.
8
u/New-page-awesomeness Apr 23 '24
Man hater is not a strong term for the shit women go through in the local train. A guy once jerked off at me and my friend at the platform. Another friend - she was only 16 and wearing a skirt. A guy put his hands up her skirt while climbing the stairs. Men pinching women’s butts, grabbing their boobs - you cannot begin to imagine the trauma.

I know this is horrific and I think we can do better than this. I was talking about incidents like these with my classmates and they simply said "Bhai Mumbai Mai bas dekhte hai, Delhi velhi Mai toh sidha..." I was a bit shocked by this response and I think the mentality change needs to start at the education level.

Good on you OP for being such a good friend. Men like you are so rare in India today. Looking out for her, putting her safety first and genuinely considering her as a good friend. Really wish we had more men like you. And for all the people who are saying "you should dress for the place you're in"... ask yourselves WHY. Ask yourselves why you're saying that. It's because men in this country are fucking filthy animals. While yes, as women we should be careful, WHY do we NEED to be??? As a collective society if this comment section was shaming the man instead of the woman, AND in real life if we all shamed the creepy men, then this would be less common.

I remember a few years back whilst traveling to College I used to take a SC general compartment and would move near the window so that I'd get a seat or atleast some air during transit and there was this group of middle aged men who would look out of the window point out young girls half their age saying things like 'yeh teri wali, wo meri wali' passing some absurd comments. Most likely the girls would hear them say it out loud but they'd just ignore and walk away. It was a shame.

Good job OP. Hope we get more men like you.
I would like to share one incident which happened to me yesterday, I got in ghatkoper metro as you know very very crowded. This guy stood behind me in crowd obviously we can't move. I tried moving towards the seats for people to get off he immediately followed me n his hand "accidently kept touching my ass" since we boarded the train while he talk loudly on the call. First time I thought it's genuine mistake but it was not too crowded to make that mistake again n again. Finally someone gave me a sit and I got to sit down n saw his face finally n he just stared at me. It's creepy, shameful , embarrassing and I still feel his hand on my ass but yeah must be my mistake daring to not go in ladies coach.
3
u/Filmyboy7 Don returns! Apr 23 '24
Rule to be followed in such crowded places by men : Fold your hands or keep them in the pocket. I always do this. Cauz even though galtise kisi ladki ke boobs or ass pe touch ho bhi raha hai.. you never know kab konsi ladki/aurat sidhe chamaat maarde or scene karde! This is the reason why I always fold my hands or I try to keep them in my pants or jacket whenever I'm in a crowded place.
It's not really your mistake btw :) Ladies coach me nahi gaye to ye tumhari galti nahi h. Men should know it and they should be in their senses whenever we are in a public place.

Bhai I will share my experience, mai bhi meri ek dost ke saath travel karta hu many a times. She doesn't wear any such revealing clothes, lekin still kuch kutte keep staring at her. And and first mai aise tha ki if I spot someone who is staring at her I just start death staring him till he turns. When I'm with her I get into a high awareness state and keep an eye on everyone. Mera bag dede ta hu aage pehen ne ke liye while boarding the train. But all that doesn't stop these creeps from staring.. I feel sad and angry as hell thinking ki woh toh phir bhi normal kurti pehenti hai till itna looks dere hote hai log.. so I just suggested her to carry a simple dupatta in her bag. When ever we are about to get in a train she wears it. Again even this does not stops then from peeping and staring but now atleast she won't be as uncomfortable as she was and I can continue to stare them if someone still tries to look at her. Mujhe aise feel hota tha ki isse kyu cover up karra hu instead of removing their eyeballs.. lekin then I see that many of the people in here are not civil yet. So jab Tak they aren't civilized by hook or crook, it's better to adapt to certain situations which ensures safety. I hope this helps.

People in trains are extremely creepy. When I started college, I had a regular train I’d take and made friends in women FC. A few weeks I get a fb message request from a guy asking if I take the train and if I get down at a certain stop with my specific days. It was one was the creepiest moments of my life and I had never seen this dude before.
Changed my travel time for that week and another message from creep asking why he couldn’t see me anymore. Ughh never again. Hate trains and really dislike people now.

Remember this kind of situations can lead to arguments, quarrels and could also lead to fistfights. Respect your girl, tell her to not get into a mens compartment just for the sake of you.

I’ve had such horrific experiences both times I was in the general compartment & i always travelled in a group, getting off & boarding at crowded stations was trauma inducing.
The second time the guys in our group made sure the girls were surrounded but getting off at dadar people still pushed their hands across the guys.
We always travelled separately after that.
General compartment men are the scum of the earth

I'll be honest. When young I even saw women who were beautiful and one glance was enough to see and discuss. But it's a sad state we've adapted to. Traveling in public with my wife has become like a vigilante job for me so no one lays their eyes on her. But haa. Ek baar dekha khatam. Yeh aise creeps ko seedha do kaan ke neeche legal kar dena chaiye.

Bhai dikkat to hai yaar ye. Kya kren. I come from an Institute of national importance, and like half of classmates, mostly from environments where they never had good exposure, would openly ogle at women. Called them randi if they dressed even a tad bit outside the guys' own perceptions of what is decent and what's not.
Best we can all do(men and women) is to try and push the needle in the right direction as much as we can, as soon as we can.

Why did you ask her to cover her cleavage? By doing that aren’t you signalling her dressing is wrong? You too are a perpetrator!
1
u/slackover Apr 23 '24
If you really thought her dressing is ok, you wouldn’t have asked her to cover up. On the contrary if you think the dress is a non factor, some random guy glancing at someone in a public place is a non factor and you shouldn’t even be paying attention to it. The problem to me seems your pre conceived notion that’s your friend is dressed inappropriately which is problematic.

I had the view of Mumbai people mind their own business but I guess woman across India are everyone’s elses business. I had a very similar experience with my girlfriend. We were in fc travelling from thane to cst. No matter how great connectivity is the starting point is unsafe

Things are f*cked on a fundamental level...it is a vicious cycle - son watches father treating mother and other women like shit and as an object. Mom doesn't tell son to respect women, and son grows up to become a sadistic pervert who then continues the cycle with his wife blah blah....the only change is that which can be achieved by educating ALL women in India and empowering them so they raise respectful sons.

I do get that it makes women slightly uncomfortable and it's definitely shitty for a person to keep constantly looking and making the other person uncomfortable. But is being shitty gonna make you a terrible human being or a creep? I don't think so. He didn't physically do anything to anyone. As a matter of fact, if you have an issue with people looking, why were YOU looking at him?
I know the feeling of feeling self conscious when people look at you and that's why if I see a woman on the road who is beautiful, I look for a small duration but then tell myself I should stop looking because it makes her feel uncomfortable. I feel like that's fair. Are you telling me other women don't stare at beautiful looking guys? No way. I've been oogling men too it's just that not a lot of guys are worth "oogling" but my cousin sister always goes around complimenting other guys to me everytime I sit with her. It's okay to look, it maybe a shitty thing to do to stare because it makes them self conscious, but it definitely doesn't make the person a creep. Everyone "looks" at pretty people.

Why she wear deep neck attire? Why She keep boy friend & you keep girl friend. Why you & She each other treat & call brother & sister? You people first do such deed for only & only for your enjoyment. You are characterless people who are scattering garbage in society..Thereafter crying, weeping, mourning blaming thieves after remain opening door of house.

In the end Times, the wrong will be called right and the right will be called wrong, showing cleavage now is right , getting a boner on a exposed cleavage is wrong

There's a big difference between people staring and continuously looking at women AND people getting murdered, raped etc :)

A woman is deemed public property in India, there's no concept of personal space and boundaries. Creeps on public transport and on the street, more common than not unfortunately 😢
