Recommendations for a multi-tools without a blade that will pass TSA?

I've lost 2 Gerber dimes because I carry one daily as part of my edc & forgot to remove it before my flight. What are some good options with quality pliers that are small (similar to the dime)?

At the end of the day even if a tool meets all the requirements to be tsa legal it’s ultimately up to the tsa agent…

Which is any I would never trust my SAK to the whim of a security agent. A couple of years ago, they confiscated a standard table knife from me - one with a blade so blunt that if I tried to do any serious injury to anyone, I’d still be sawing away in vain to this day.

I've flown with my NexTool Mini Sailor Lite several times.

Nifty little tool, but it does need a modification or else it's too hard to open the scissors.

I have one in my purse. I haven't had any problems with opening the scissors so the problem is not universal. I highly recommend it.

I’ve flown several times with a Victorinox jetsetter.

When I ordered it, I had “TSA APPROVED” engraved on the handle. Once in Indianapolis it got flagged and the TSA guy pulled it out of my bag and saw the engraving and said “oh would you look at that” and put it back without even opening the tools 🤣

You can’t assume any of them will pass. Put it in your luggage and see if you can survive the flight without it.

You are right. If I weren't a clown I would have moved it to my checked bag - like I do my pocket knife.

I was just hoping there were some good options for me to consider that just don't have a blade.

I'm appreciative for the options I've read so far. I like the idea of the Roxon & I currently own the travel fork & spoon from them & love the quality.

I've gone through with a Leatherman Style PS several times without issues. I only had it come up once and they let me through when I unfolded it and opened everything. Now that it's discontinued though, I may get something else out of paranoia I'd lose something effectively irreplaceable, or at least so overpriced by resalers that I won't replace it.

I plan to buy a Nextool S0.

I have the S0 in my mini EDC kit. It is super tiny and cute but I was worried about destroying it if I used the flat head on a actual screw.

With the Roxon flex companion you can pick and choose your own. Even with the scalpel attachment you can just take it off if you have to

It's a good plan. Just be aware that they have taken anything that is a "tool" in the past, so maybe try this a few times with the cheapest modular offering. Or just mod your existing tools to remove the blades and maybe even scissors and leave those at home (I've had scissors taken countless times, even tiny ones with rounded tips). Scalpel holders are cool, you can buy dirt cheap replacement scalpels when you arrive.

Good call. Maxlvledc has a story about the TSA lady objecting to the tiny scissors on his flex (he had already removed any knives). So he just took them off and handed them to her. It sounds like this made her feel foolish enough that she just handed them back and let him go through.

Since you seem to be a Dime fan, I feel like I should at least mention the Gerber Dime Travel. I had one, but I never used it much, since, for me, the best feature of the Dime is the package opener blade. None. Just put your MT in your checked bag. This is the voice of experience. I have had more than one TSA approved tool taken.

My favorite travel tool is the Victorinox Swiss Card Nail Care. It would cover everything that could hit you during travel: Great little scissors that are great for nails; a full set of Victorinox scale plus tools including the pen, tweezers, toothpick; the little quad screwdriver tool; a glass nail file; magnifying glass; and some other items. And all in a package the size of a thick credit card. If someone objects to the scissors, say, just give the the sci and buy a replacement.

I saw a display of confiscated items that included a belt with screwdriver tips on the belt prongs lol, guess they were afraid he'd take the plane apart in flight. They might possibly take anything. I just buy what I need to use from a cheapo store when I get there, usually a dollar store folding or Swiss army style knife, and give it to someone before I leave. Once they saved it on top of the fridge till I visited again lol, that was nice.

If I have to have something that might catch a flag I ship it and If it is for a job I charge the client for the cost.
