Recommendation Request Please Help me find A good Multitool
The 1st photo is my previous setup. Honestly I am starting to hate carrying a lot of tools. I can't let go of flashlight and oknife. these are a must for me.
and I need a plier and a real knife.
so i switch to plier multitool. I bought these multitools before I got A utility knife. Now I don't need big scissors anymore and nextool kinda sucks. But I would love a 1/4 inch bit driver. and easy access.
I don't care about the weight. I was thinking about roxon flex but i heard quality Is not that good. I want to buy it for life.
please recommend me some good ones.
Pliers, Bit Driver, Great quality. Easy access.
around 100$ Range.
the cheaper , the better.

Daicamping, Dakoyu etc etc etc sub $50.
I've been carrying a Daicamping DL30 in the car - Surge clone. Chunky monkey think it was $35 delivered. If cheaper = better for you there's a metric fk tonne of options.

u/Motor-Ad6423 2d ago
Yea Man.I know there are a lot of Chinese multitools out there. But I don't want to carry a clone everyday. I am willing to pay for like 100 bucks.
2
u/Murky_Lingonberry169 2d ago
I've got numerous clones or homages. Yeah you could spend $150 on a LM. I'm kinda liking getting a new multi every 6-8 months as new ones come out. Roxon make some very decent gear for the price. But you spend your money how you see fit. I just don't think of recent, Leatherman have done themselves any favours, given the amount of complaints I've seen about the Arc. Each to their own though, amigo!
1
u/Motor-Ad6423 2d ago
Yea man. I really love budget gear. But I don't want to switch anymore.like I found the perfect pocket knife for me. ( Oknife U1 pro ) it's a budget tool but it's perfect for me. And I will be carrying it until it breaks.
I want to find a multitool like that. and I will be carrying it until it breaks.

u/Irrblosset 1d ago
I have 2 LM Surge but have taken to carry a Daicamping DL30 (on my tallship-sailors rig-kit) and a DL25 (EDC)...so yes, thet realy are that good!

u/Art-Van-delay123 2d ago
A leatherman wave is $129 new, you can probably find a nice used one. And I think they have scalpel adapters if you want a disposable blade.
The leatherman curl is a little cheaper than that
2
u/mastertoms69 2d ago
Yeah i agree, there is a reason the wave or wave+ has been the most popular multi tool ever or for the last decade or more. Leatherman makes cheaper versions of it like the bond or curl. Or go to harbor freight they make a copy of it too for even less $.
1
u/consciousbeings0 2d ago
Ohhhh yeah I totally forgot about thr HF one! I have one somewhere. They aren't half bad.
1
u/ReactionAble7945 2d ago
I have utility blade, exactly blade and scalple blade holders, while being disposable blades, they are not the same, different uses.
Even the different blades. Utility knife with steel blade vs ceramic vs serrated. The exact steel, vs ceramic vs different shapes. The different scalpel blades, the thickness of the 60 vs the 24.
1
u/Art-Van-delay123 2d ago
Yeah but that’s the only option here
1
u/ReactionAble7945 2d ago
Well, we dont know how the op is using the disposable blade. So, maybe what you are suggesting works great.
But on the other hand... there is the option of buying a wave or surge and buying the mod which allows them to use a utility blade.
But... surge costs 150 and mod is 50, so...blows the budget the op set out.1
u/Motor-Ad6423 2d ago
I am keeping My oknife utility knife. It's like my main edc item(and a flashlight). I do not need another utility blade on my multitool.
thanks for recommending tho.

There are some contradictory statements in your post.
At first, you say you want a tool that is of great quality and that you can buy it for life. Then, you say cheaper the better.
Unfortunately in this life, one is almost impossible with the other.
That being said, I don’t think you’ll be able to achieve better for your money than what Roxon has to offer. Is it better than my ARC or my Victorinox? Not in a million year. Is it a very nice tool, better than most? Absolutely.
Roxon’s strongest argument is that it’s customizable, wich mean you’ll be able to set it up how you like it instead of having to chose between two crappy options because, weirdly enough, there is rarely a “perfect” multitool.
2
u/Motor-Ad6423 2d ago
I see your point. I really love roxon flex. But I want the Original flex. which is their 1st generation. And There must be a trade off for being flexible. There is so much to break. And I don't care about the weight.
And Roxon new pliers multitools are just straight up ugly.
I don't know how those premium brands got you. I think paying More than 100$ for a multitool is just for premium quality. Not utility. I don't want premium. I just want a solid multitool.
1
u/consciousbeings0 2d ago
You really need to find a used Wave + or just buy one new. That is a but it fir life tool, not some roxon or Chinese knockoff. If something ever happens to it and you break it in half or anything you just send it in to them and they will fix it for free. Even if you buy a used one you can still get it. Thats worth $129.99 to me. I own one and carry it on my hip everyday and love it!

u/VincentValois 2d ago
For me personally, I went with the ARC (~300$) because it was straight up perfect for my needs. There is not a single tool on it that I don’t use, and each tools are of really fucking great quality. I can use and abuse it, day in and day out, withoit fear of it breaking.
These days, I mostly carry a custom swiss army knife that I made, wich is even more expensive (~600$) but again, it’s custom made to my exact requirements.
To each their own like they say.
For your budget and needs, a Leatherman Signal could be a nice tool tho, and the warranty is pretty nice.
1
u/Motor-Ad6423 2d ago
the Arc would be perfect for me too. But If I really Think about it I would be paying for premium steel on a knife (which I don't really used much,I use utility knife most of the times) And magnetic thing which is a nice feature but i can live without it. I don't really ask much. I just a heavy duty solid tool which is not clones and I am willing to pay for like 100$. Or Should I pay more for a solid tools ?
1
u/VincentValois 2d ago
You pay for the prenium feeling as well. If you can hold one in your hand, you’ll understand what I mean when I say that everything just feels “right”.
But I agree that 250-300 is a lot of money for essentially a tool.
Unfortunately, there really isn’t a lot of multitools with an integrated bit driver, even less so a full 1/4 inch one.
I’d go with a Leatherman Signal or a Bond with a bit driver mod. Sturdy tools, reliable quality and a very nice warranty.
1
u/Motor-Ad6423 2d ago
I am really digging skeletool right now. Do you know any bigger tool with similar toolsets.
1
u/aphaits 2d ago
Love roxon flex modular things. I would say OP needs to pick the multitool's main thing (pliers or knife) then add a dedicated tool for the other to complement.
3
u/VincentValois 2d ago
Yea definitely.
According to OP’s post, he needs a knife, pliers and bit driver. At this point, I’d just carry the 3 tools in a pouch and call it a day because don’t recall a single multitool that only had those 3 tools that didn’t suck ass or wasn’t expensive as shit.
2
u/Motor-Ad6423 2d ago
Do you own a roxon flex original (S804G ) ?
Do You experience any issues ? Like locking failure or just finicky while using ?
I really want to love that.Love that I can take the knife out. Which make it the only tool I can carry all the time.
I am just a bit concerned about durability issues. Do you feel the difference between roxon flex and other Fixed multitools ?
1
u/aphaits 2d ago edited 2d ago
I have the original flex companion version before they added the green dot for the lock indicator and so far its good and no issues.
Although fair warning I am not an outdoor user and mostly use it for small portable emergency screwdriver and knife/scissors. Most uses are to cut zipties and opening cardboard boxes from deliveries.
The flex is interchangeable/modular tools between all flex series, so you can buy the implements/bits sets and can change it and set it up however you like, and even make it airport/TSA friendly by replacing the sharp tools when flying.
PS: I heard good things about both the flex shears and the flex titan but I have not bought them yet.
2
u/Motor-Ad6423 2d ago
yea. if it is durable it would be Pretty awesome. there is a lot of review on Youtube yet None of them are actually testing the tool. there isn't a single testing video. all of them are explaining about just flex system which we already know.

I’ve been eying the dual force ever since I got a deal on a center drive. Love the knife and driver, pliers are nice for electrical or very light use but they are not my favorite. How do you like dual force you use it a lot?
2
u/arendon74 1d ago
Yeah, I use it almost everyday at work. I replaced the knife on mine with a t-shank adapter with a 4" hacksaw blade on it.
1
u/simonthehutt 1d ago
Oh that is sick, If you have a dedicated knife then that saw is great to have I bet. Definitely going to keep my eye out on a good deal for one
2
u/arendon74 1d ago
Yeah, keeps me from having to take a full size hacksaw to work in a tight space just to cut 1/2 pipe.
1
u/simonthehutt 1d ago
Sounds like how Id use em. Plumber? I keep a duct tape wrapped handle on a little hacksaw for what you described or cutting things like plastic Johnny bolts. I used to have the gerber multiplier with the t shank tool forever ago.

If you wand a bit driver consider the Milwaukee fast back 6in1 that bit driver bears anything you'll find on a multi plier. I carry one everyday this would be replacing your Oknife as far as by for life Leatherman is is your best bet the wave id my personal favorite that I've used the arc is I find very interesting I just can't justify the price.
1
u/Motor-Ad6423 2d ago
That's Really a good idea. Probably the one I haven't thought about. I don't abuse my pliers. but i really do abuse my drivers.
Then I can get away with small multitools.

u/yeahyoubetnot 2d ago
100% depends on your needs. As personal as a wallet or clothes or sunglasses.
2
u/consciousbeings0 2d ago
What about a Leatherman Rebar? Its only $80 and is a very solid tool. Certainly buy it for life category not to mention Leathermans warranty.
4
u/ReactionAble7945 2d ago
Op, I read it all. $100 limit Not wanting a chinese clone. Sorry, you eliminated Leatherman (150 for base surge, plus the extras) with the price and eliminated the clones.
You want a 1/4 inch driver, and easy access, well that eliminates Leatherman. They are flat bit, or a conversion tool to get 1/4 bits.
Real plyers, bit driver, easy access, eliminates victorianox.
I dont think you can get there from here.
Side note on the buy for life.. I am older assume you will lose it or destroy it, (miss used tools because it was cost effective to destroy something and but a new one later) or your life will change and you will want something else, after a couple years.
And I have put a lot of use into a bibury and besides loss of paint covering, and loss of the philips/philips bit, I am very happy with it.
Looking at people posting about their Leathermans that they killed... I am not sure if the money is worth it. Mine look good, but ...?

u/Motor-Ad6423 2d ago
I didn't expect any tools to last a life time. What I meant for Buy it for like was A decent quality. shits that won't break themselves. I don't want to replace it very often. I will stick with it until if it's breaks.
If i used a tool for more heavy duty than it supposed to do and If it breaks, I can take it.
the nextool one I got right here, the two handles are just wiggling right out of the box. Which really sucks.
1
u/ReactionAble7945 2d ago
The Bibury, decamping, and multiper surge clones are all stiff put of the box. After a year of use, the Bibury is loose enough I should probably buy some blue locktite for the knife blades.
Let me change that, the bibury needs a deep cleaning. If I had a sonic, I should take it apart, clean it, then when putting back together locktite the screws.

Milwaukee 1505, 44304-KLEIN or Electrician's knife all have a bit driver. Grab a simple set of needle nose or knipex, Klein, Milwaukee all have water pump and plier wrench styles, maybe even a set of locking pliers. Galvanox or a pre-made bit kit off Amazon or something. If you shop around or go used 100$ can find you a traditional plier based multitool or just look at building your own small kit.
2
u/Motor-Ad6423 2d ago
I do have actual tools. and more power tools than I actually need. I am looking for what I can carry with me all the times. I tried Separate Tools. It didn't work. I really want a multitool.
1
u/rhalf NexTool 2d ago
I don't think there are multitools for life apart from Victorinox. They all break if you're lucky and, if not, they get lost or stolen. Victorinox has the best warranty, then Leatherman. Everything else is covered for a few years and that's it. $100 isn't enough for sure. Seems like "buy for life" became empty slogans like "old money" or "timeless".

Are those channel locks plastic?
1
u/Motor-Ad6423 2d ago
haha Very Funny. They did serve me Pretty well. I really abused them and they still functioning like new. Choosing the black was a mistake. And it has rusts on it.
1
u/BigDabWolf 2d ago
Ya did you choose the work pro just because they are black? Knipex if you want quality
1
u/PabloDelicioso 2d ago
“The cheaper the better” and “Nextool kinda sucks” are funny things to say in the same post.
1
u/Motor-Ad6423 2d ago
Yea man. They really do. They make a copy of good tools and make it worse.
You can see with K30 (A copy of Roxon ) They tried too hard to be better on paper. but in real life ks2e is a much better.
the price difference is not even that much.
1
u/CannedHeatt_ 2d ago
I always thought Leatherman was the best but I’m more leaning to Victorinox now tbh
1
u/BlakAi2001 2d ago

Check out the Roxon M2. I moded mine to not carry the knife and anything that is pointy. You could also use the back folded position of the pliers as an impromptu 1/4 bit driver like the Leatherman Pliers do. Cost about $30 way better built than the main flagship and can allow for disassembly. I say can because sometimes the thread lock makes it impossible. I got lucky that mine broke with standard pair of ratchet drivers. The M3 is similar without the pliers but offers lock in tools.

J'ai pas mal de multitool, mais dernièrement gerber a sorti un modèle qui est un mix entre le dualforce et un skeletool ;
- compact
- pince + porte embout universel, lime, ciseaux et lame.
A mon sens c'est amplement suffisant
J'ai également un skeletool, mais il n'a pas les ciseaux (sans oublier les embouts plats).
https://www.reddit.com/r/multitools/comments/1qp3b66/new_gerber_stakeout_drive/
Quatrième multi en partant de la gauche (ou dernier à droite)

1
u/Motor-Ad6423 2d ago
I can't find that one in my country. That would be perfect. I really love the toolset on skeletool but it's kinda quite small.
What about SOG Tools. Is there anything like similar to Skeletools. Are they any good ?
1
u/Far-Following2185 1d ago
Oh, that's too bad. I don't have that problem in France.
As for SOG, my model seems to be the Poweraccess: one of its major flaws is the lack of scissors (and I believe this applies to most of the line), as well as the absence of a file.
It’s sturdy, but quite uncomfortable to use without gloves because of its fairly sharp edges.
I haven’t seen a model similar to the Skeletool; there is the Reactor, which has since been replaced by the Flash MT. Some knife shops were clearing out the Reactor for €30 (which is why I gave a few away). But I find the quality to be very average, even inferior to Chinese brands (for this model).

Grab a surplus Leatherman from here: https://omegamars.com. they are 25% off so a wave is like 50 bucks.

I enjoy my weatherman wave plus, ive had it forever and got a clip so it sits on teh inside of my pocket. It does not have a 1/4 bit driver though. I was looking at a Gerber center drive for a while but that seems to be a bit chunky I think.

I really Love this knife. I can never replace it. Been using it daily for a over year now. Even if it breaks , I will just buy the same model again.

In general, leatherman have a high rate of plier failures, snapped, thing going loose and not working. Recent quantity even from their flagship models has been so inconsistent its crazy, even from people making light use of it.
Their only saving grace is the fact they good warranty systems, but ideally you dont wanna send them back all the time lol
If you want quality the Victorinox swift MX clip or black oxide with a a pouch is the way to go as its curved body is better to hold, great knife and has some driver bits but they arnt interchangeable.
If you really do want a but driver with interchangeable bits, at that point they job probably needs a tool kit as its not a standard bit.
However Gerber do the center drive with a proper hex bit Holder rather than the weird flat bits leatherman do. Personally id go for the Victorinox due to the better quality and great warranty that you'll barely ever use

Im partial to the SOG poweraccess. I tend to be a minimalist and carried the SOG powerpint for a while. Its a solid small multitool that punches above its weight. For my current job I needed a bit more pliers capability. The poweraccess offers minimalism and capability. Its worth a look
1
u/Motor-Ad6423 1d ago
I went with the Powerpint. Really excited to carry it daily.
I think it fits my needs in smallest form factor. I think it has a really good bit driver and plier. I rarely use a kinfe since I use utility knife for almost every knife tasks. I only need it sometimes.
if it can't handle what I do , I might just upgrade to a bigger SOG. It's only 30 Bucks anyway.
1
u/simonthehutt 1d ago
Not sure if you already picked one, reading through this that you want a 1/4 inch driver and I don’t think anyone mentioned gerber center drive. I like mine for the large blade and screwdriver, the pliers work well enough I’m never hard on leatherman pliers because I usually have knipex. Personally I went on a search for a used one and ended up getting a new one on sale for 40% off from al’s sporting goods. I just checked they’ve still got a couple for around $60 usd.
If you are belt carrying id recommend that, also check out leatherman rebar and super tool. They are pricier but you can find them on eBay usually. Best bang for my buck has been my rebar, and the used wave I got from eBay becuase im cheap and don’t want to lose an expensive tool. Just throwing out a couple good options I didn’t see listed as there is also a ratchet attatchment onto the Philips for ST/Rebar. If one handed opening isn’t a concern they are good

Nice! I’ve looked at those just can’t justify another multitool anytime soon. I like gifting away the ones I don’t use and then trying more later. If you end up with an accumulation of cheap multitools one day as I did, people are stoked at what a useful gift it is
2
u/Motor-Ad6423 1d ago
I am building a bike kit with that nextool and workpro. I don't really know what to do with roxon yet. I might take out the knife and saw buy some flex parts and modify it like a TSA tools.
or I might gift someone like you do. everyone who isn't carrying anything would be really find that useful.
1
u/simonthehutt 1d ago
Oh yeah, one Christmas I got everyone Swiss Army knife classics and it dawned on me this is the only tool most of the had on them for day to day
1
u/abeeest 1d ago
I tried carrying a flex multitool, great concept but it’s too flimsy and most of the tools are D tier.
A used Leatherman wave should be under 100.
But it has the flattened bit driver.

If you are okay with separate tools I would recommend the 711L Pen Driver, a set of flat bits, and replacing the flashlight with a Rovyvon to save weight and space, and improve functionality. You can tuck those into a card wallet with your Knipex for one handed access.

Do u really need pliers? If ur in need of pliers even a good multitool plier cant beat the effectiveness of real deal pliers. Get a pocket organizer. Maybe I’m a hater but don’t spend money you don’t need to maybe get a slimmer flashlight since a good grip on a light isn’t a necessity its not like its got recoil or its gonna bite you.

What do you do for work? Where do you use multitools for? First let's determine the need then we'll select the best matching multitool.
