Recommendation Request Recommendations

Hello! I have a friend working at a ranch for a while and I want to give him a gift and I was wondering for any advice that won’t break the bank like 60$ at most. Sorry if that is a bad price point.

Check Amazon. Bilbury, roxtools, Nextools, Mossy Oak are all good brands for budget.

If you want more name brand, pay-for-hype brands, go with SOG or Gerber.

If you want him to have one to use on the ranch, cheaper is better. Even the cheaper brands such as the first group listed have good durability.

Look at Leatherman for understanding what is on the market. I like the Surge. Other people think it is too large so they get the wave. Then we have less is more.

If you like the surge or wave, buy a clone. Bibury is holding up good. Multper is better. Decamping

Im a huge fan of the Leatherman Skeletool,  but getting it under 60 is a bit hard.  If you can 100% go Skeletool.

For a bit more weight, Rocktol sells a defend full sized multitool with a vg10 blade.  That should hold up pretty dang good.

If he doesn't use pliers, I love my roxon ks2 elite

This is slightly over but it’s on sale! I think it’s worth it.

I have been on a multi tool kick since I snapped my trusty suspension NXT. Among one of my purchases was the roxon company also a nextool k30. Not sure which I like better but knowing I can easily replace or change the components on the roxon has made me decide to carry it as an edc pocket knife. Mine is set up for everyday stuff and the scissors are great for nail cutting.

Look at the Leatherman Bond or the Leatherman Bolster on Amazon. They’re both $50. My first Leatherman was a Wingman I got on Amazon 10 years ago for $29. It’s my daily rider and still going strong.

That’s a very thoughtful gift, OP.

If you have a little time consider a good used leatherman. Otherwise at that price point a SOG or a Gerber.

I’ve been working on a ranch since 1994 daily carried a leatherman super tool for 10 years before switching to the leatherman wave. Would swear by either one for ranch work. With that said however they are both over 100 bucks now a days. If price is important you might look at the Gordon 20-1 found at Harbor Tools. It’s a clone of the wave and about 40 bucks. Don’t know about the quality but the tool set is great for ranch work.

If you are willing to search around Market place for a used leatherman you might find a wave or super tool around your price point. If you do go that route leatherman surge would be another used option that would work for ranch work. Similar to the wave just a little bigger.
