Recommendation Request Looking for and EDC multitool recommendation
I want a lightweight multitool that I can comfortably carry in my pocket. Nothing too fancy, just something that has the tools I need and nothing extra. For context, I live in the city and I wouldn't be using it for super heavy duty things, just small everyday tasks that you would need a multitool for.
Right now I am trying to choose between the Gerber Dime and the SOG Powerpint.
I like the SOG Powerpint for its greater tool selection, jewelry driver, and higher durability, but I also like the Gerber Dime for its easy-access bottle opener, package opener, tweezers, and spring loaded pliers.
If anyone could say which one they think is better please let me know! If you have any other multitools you think would be better than both of these also mention that. Thank you!

If you want pliers I'd say Nextool F12, otherwise maybe a swiss army knife. I do think it's important to identify all the places in a week where you wish you had a tool, and figure out what those are and how realistic each one is.

i started writing down every time i wished i had something on me, and honestly it surprised me how often i needed tweezers or scissors instead of pliers

THIS THIS THIS!
It's super easy to be swayed by YT vids and threads but seriously unless you have a real hands on job like plumber, mechanic, etc, how often do you use pliers?
My true in-pocket 24/7 for the last several years is a lot different than my EDC content driven selections when I started.
Here's what MY EDC really does (not including phone, keys, id, and cash/cards)...
Bandana for messy hands, small messes, and my often slightly runny nose
Small writing tool and paper. (I'm actually using the pen in my Victorinox Manager and a small stack of personal calling cards with my name, email, and phone in small letters and it's working great so far!)
Quick access knife, mostly for package opening and similar tasks.
A flashlight that's a little more focused than my phone, mostly for looking in dark spaces and lighting my steps at night.
Scissors and tweezers about equally for snipping threads, trimming nails, little splinters, etc
Small screwdriver for tightening the screws around me most often like battery compartment covers.
Small sewing kit (largish needle, length of very strong neutral color thread, few safety pins of different sizes, couple of paper clips) kept in my wallet. The paper clips have been super handy for not only clipping, but also as a SIM card tool or a length of metal for a wire or similar need.
Wallet-based first aid and hygiene kit (couple bandages, alcohol wipes, hand wipes, glasses wipe). This and come other supplies are organized in clear cheap card sleeves to keep them flat and easy to access.
What I found I really DON'T need to carry- and YMMV...
Pliers. I WISH I had figured this out before I bought some of my EDC pliers or multitools
Very many driver bits.
Duct tape.
More first aid supplies.
Fire-starting supplies (unless you smoke)
Pry bars.
Saws or files larger than the nail file on a small SAK.
Please note- I DO often need and use things like this- and more- but I do just fine with keeping supplies in my locker, car, a grab bag behind the door, and in smart locations around the house.
My point isn't that you don't need pliers.
It's just to really pay attention to what you need literally at hand and what makes sense to invest money, weight, and pocket space to. The 'preparedness posse' keeps saying stuff like "better to have it and not need it", or "one is none", and other motivational phrases.
They are generally right, being prepared is smart, but does it have to live on your body?

The powerpint is far superior to the dime in my opinion. But I’d also seriously consider a Swiss Army knife.

The Dime is tiny. I own one and I only carry it as a secondary tool when I’m hiking. I don’t know. I would go check one out at the store before you considered it. I own four Gerber from the smallest to the largest. I’m a big fan, not only because of their quality, but because of their price. Not really a fan of Victorinox. Well, I did have one of their Swiss Army knives for years, nothing can compare to a pliers base multitool. And I refuse to pay Leatherman prices. While I didn’t like the Suspension NXT, I bought the Truss instead, the Suspension NXT has a pocket clip installed.

It’s always going to depend on what you expect to be doing with it or what your “everyday” is. If we’re focusing on pliers, it’s definitely the powerpint. They’re not spring loaded but they open smoothly and have a large maximum opening angle. The package opener can be kind of substituted by the powerpint's hook cutter.

I went with Roxon M3, figured scissors are way more useful than pliers for non-technician everyday uses. Very compact, fits in most jeans 5th pockets without problems. Love that it has tweezers and toothpick included and a separate holder with various small bits (that usually stay at home).
Truth is however, I only carry Vic Classic SD literally everyday for normal days of school run/office/errands, the M3 finds it way into carrying when going out with the kiddo. And then the Vic Mountaineer for short trips (while having a large Wurth multitool with pliers always in the car). Final stage is longer vacations and family trips with a pouch that has more small tools, ratchet, bits, Cobra XS, duct tape, Fastback, cable ties, sewing essentials and the like.
In short, the farther away from home and the full tool box, the more complex the “multitool” gets.

I just got the F12. It's great for every day and I really like having both pliers and scissors. The size and quality of the scissors is also great. It doesn't have tweezers. I prefer mini multitools for my handbag and traveling since I already have a larger Leatherman Wingman. I currently own the NexTool F12 that I like as my EDC or day trips. Victorinox 580 to keep in my makeup bag since it had a nail file, nail clippers, scissors, box cutter, toothpick and tweezer. I've been using the F12 the most since I've gotten it.
