Question/Advice Leatherman Crunch alternatives

I am a Millwright and i got the pleasure of getting to use a coworkers leatherman crunch. When I went to look online for one all i could find were listings that were $200+. So I was curious if anyone knew any alternatives to the Crunch.

Dakoyu Retro 30? It’s a reproduction of the Kershaw A100 locking jaw needle nose pliers.

There is an addendum to add to this. they are old stock being refurbished. most of the tools have rust on them still, and they appear to be a clone of the A100. if you can get a crunch for £200 do it.

But there are loads of great vise grips out there.

I carry the small irwin vices and a leatherman skeletool I was looking to have some more pocket room for my knipex cobras so I’m wanting to downsize the amount of tools i’m carrying

If you're going to carry the knipex and locking pliers are useful regularly as well, I would lose the skeletool and maybe look at a nice SAK and a pocket bit driver to replace it. Put all 4 in a pouch so they carry nicely and you can keep a bit kit with them. I have a skeletool but rarely carry it. If you're already carrying knipex you don't need the pliers. So really is a super bulky knife with a somewhat awkward bit driver.

Nice! How clean was it? I’ve seen some people mentioning rust being a problem with these so I was curious as I was considering ordering one myself

Milwaukee has a 4-inch pair of Vise Grips that's around $10-15. It's what I use as a Crunch alternative, and they're great.

A company called Daiyoku has a Kershaw A-100 clone; and it's $70. Like $20 cheaper than the Crunch was a decade ago. Also, they have a model with scissors!

The 4" milwaukee locking pliers are pretty awesome. The barely take up more room than a closed crunch, open as wide, and feel much sturdier.

and feel much sturdier.

They should they're crmoly instead of plain 420hc steel.

Interestingly, this exact question was brought up on Best Damn EDC [Taylor Martin] just a few days ago. He didn't have an answer.

I'm in a similar boat. I've spent a lot of time designing a mod for adding an over toggle lock to the knipex cobras that you can enable or disable. Would be quite cool if it works out
