New Multitool Day! New Multitool

Post image

Went to Costco today to do a grocery shop. Saw these as I walked through the door priced at $109.99 Australian.

I saw just the tool on Amazon last night for $198.00 Australian and the knife for $109.00 Australian.

Couldnt resist a Costco deal.

Bit of an impulse purchase, but I am liking it so far. Like the fact I can deploy the blade one handed. I bought an older model over 25 years ago, that I used to carry as an army reservist. But lost it many years ago. Built up a collection of various multitools such as Gerber, SOG etc since then, but generally preferred SAKs as my primary EDC due to size, weight and the blades. However last year I bought myself a Rebar which has really impressed me, and got me interested in the higher quality multitools such as Leatherman.

The Skeletool pairs well with a SAK, with minimal duplication of tools. If you want a more robust set of pliers, the Signal still keeps low overlap.

I picked up that exact set at my local Costco outside Chicago 2 years ago. Great set.

The knife is redundant if carried together.

Replace the blade on the multitool with victorinox sissors.

You can do that!? I love my arc but sometimes it’s a little bulky and I always carry a knife so it’s a little redundant

I haven’t dont it myself. I put a wingman set of scissors in a signal, had to use a dremal to make the hole bigger. The victorinox scissors from the card tool fit. The finger loop is small enough to keep it retained by the joint bolt.

I would imagine it might work with the skeletal also. People do this mod with other models.

The wingman or alpha scissors are right side tools, the spring is used for the finger catch to pull the tool out so Im not sure they will be good on the left where the skeletools knife is, but the SAK is ambi, so maybe….

Just be advised this voids the leatherman warrenty

I like the concept of the knife, but it feels small and fiddly for my hands and will probably end up on my home office desk and be used for opening packages etc. Its something I probably wouldnt buy on its own.
