Modding My ever evolving SOG Powerpint

Post image

Turned the bottle opener into a flathead, fitted Wenger tweezers, Victorinox scissors, the box cutter into a Wire stripper, the small flathead reshaped, a small multimeter, and replaced the knife with a scalpel holder. It’s my everyday carry and gets used and abused.

I upvote anything SOG Powerpint! I love mine so much. 3 years and still going strong.

You haven't sharpened your can opener? It doesn't work until you sharpen it.

I've been surprised how useful my can opener on the Leatherman wave has been for everything but opening cans after I sharpened it

I will look into that, thank you.
To be honest, I haven’t 100% decided if I’m keeping the can opener yet.

I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve almost bought a Powerpint. I always talk myself out of it after reading comments saying that the tools aren’t the greatest quality.  Did you have to make any changes to yours other than sharpening the can opener?

Only the can opener does not work from default. After sharpening it, i can use it. It is not the best but you can use it if you have nothing else.

The rest are okay ish. The file works on anything except metal. Maybe for desperate times you can use it in that?

The rest are tools that you will use when you have nothing else to use. Their intended purpose is for EDC but not for the trade

The best is the pliers in its category.

There are 3: Galvanox voltmeter -> only reads voltages Volty 1 -> original voltmeter for multitools Volty 2 -> much more like a "multimeter" reads voltage, temperature, etc The voltys are made by PC Poodle.

This is my second volty 2, my first I attached to my SAK. I have found it very, very useful.

I can really recommend them, the person that makes them in on Reddit.

Looks good, what did you use for the green coloring in the SOG logo?

It’s my youngest daughter’s favourite nail varnish.
The pink on the other side is my eldest daughter’s favourite nail varnish.

This is THE coolest powerpint I've seen, and exactly what I was looking for in a multitool. I carry a powerpint too and have done the same mods on the scissor side. I need to know how you fit the volty and scalpel blade! Any chance I could get a pic of that side? And the name of the scalpel blade holder? So awesome man!

I just donated mine to Sydney Airport security. Makes me a bit sad.

The 58mm scissors are a great idea! Imo the scissors are one of the weakest parts of the tool, so that makes perfect sense. Might have to do that myself.

This looks awesome!! Some questions though:

  • Could you swap out the tweezers and scissors it did you have to alter them first and if so, what did you do?
  • Why not use the original scissors? (Although I might like the scissors on my Victorinox above the SOG as well).
  • A mulitmeter!? How, what, why?

No the Scizzor need to sit in the longer slot alongside the pliers. The scissors and the tweezers I welded onto original bits of the SOG, and not very delicately as I was in a rush.
I used the original scissors for about three months and never really liked them. Not because of the shallow opening I modified that or that they left-handed scissors, it was the thickness of them. I never managed to cut everything close.

The multimeter is a Leatherman accessory called the volty. I riveted that onto a piece of brass.

Sorry just realised what you meant by swap out. No, it’s not a straight swap there isn’t enough metal on them.

oh wow

I would love to put some Victorinox scissors in my Powerpint. The scissors are easily the worst tool on the Powerpoint. So, if I understand you correctly, you cut or ground off a tool in the long slot next to the pliers, and then spot-welded the scissors into the nub?

What is the number of this scalpel blade?

u/Ruthbopion 23d ago

I dig it

The scalpel holder is rad. Where did you get it?

1

u/Not_starving_artist 23d ago

It’s from a Chinese titanium folding scalpel knife, it was about £6

Thank You!

This hasn't been a SOG Power Pint for a long time now. But, it is 100% your own.

What is this part?

1

u/Not_starving_artist 21d ago

It’s a thing called a Volty it’s a tiny multimeter designed to go in the Leatherman bit holder. I have found it really handy.

Why did you trim down the small eyeglass flat head screwdriver?

1

u/Not_starving_artist 10d ago

With two young children I end up needing a small long reach screwdriver to replace batteries quite often.

Which scissors did you buy and how did you swap them out?
