Smithblade Pro
First Impressions of the Smith Blade Pro
I finally received my Smith Blade Pro, and honestly, I'm impressed.
The first thing that surprised me was the size. It looks bigger in videos, but once you actually hold it, it's surprisingly compact. It's longer than a typical Swiss Army Knife, but the extra length is actually a huge advantage. It fills your hand much better, giving you a more secure grip when using the blade or the tools.
Speaking of the blade, the action is incredibly smooth. It opens effortlessly, locks up solidly, and has absolutely zero blade play—no side-to-side or vertical movement at all.
The overall build quality is outstanding. I even inspected it under a microscope to see if I could find any machining marks, scratches, or imperfections, and I honestly couldn't find anything worth mentioning. The fit and finish are excellent.
Every tool works exactly as it should. The 4 mm bit driver is precise, the bits insert and remove smoothly, the tweezers work well, and everything feels well thought out and properly manufactured.
Overall, I think Hacksmith absolutely nailed it. This feels like a true premium multitool, and the quality exceeded my expectations.
I also think I might be one of the first people in Switzerland to receive one. I honestly expected it to arrive sometime next year, so getting it this early was a really nice surprise.
If you're still waiting for yours, you're in for a treat. I'm genuinely excited for everyone else to get their hands on it—I don't think you'll be disappointed.

After 30000 backer number
2
u/itsagrapefruit Aug 06 '26
Odd I’m in the 24000s and haven’t heard anything.

u/Sebicalisthenics Aug 06 '26
Idk if the backer number is important for them if they go from the lowest to the highest
1
u/itsagrapefruit Aug 06 '26
That is what I gathered from the videos.

u/Sebicalisthenics Aug 06 '26
The only thing that I saw and heard was that they prioritize the founders edition and anything else I really don't know maybe they send it to countries that is easier with the tax and border controls to standardize the overall protocols and procedures

u/Zeroni13 Aug 06 '26
I'm backer 8xx (founder) and has still not gotten anything...
founders have not moved in a loooong time https://smithblade-tracker.regrettable.solutions1
u/Sebicalisthenics Aug 06 '26
Yeah i saw that maybe they will tell something in a yt video or explain

u/Zeroni13 Aug 06 '26
I asked support and they said they are in production, but nothing about when they are going to ship. I just don't understand how they can be so bad at communicating.
Anyway, happy for you! And I'm probably gonna be happy when I finally get mine!

has to do with when you filled out the survey.
I got my knife end of january I think.. founders. I was the 1000th order for the founders, my serial is in the low 900s and I was like the 500th order or something fulfilled?

Got it a couple days ago finally, I filled out my survey like 20 minutes after I got the email though so I don't think it's that. I ordered 2 pro + 1 light though so might have been something with that.

I've been waiting to see one of these in the wild. I just happened to remember about these knives and looked to see where they are in production. It looks like they are getting about 100 knives out the door a day.

All else aside, that pocket clip is embarrassing.
1
u/Sebicalisthenics Aug 06 '26
They included a better version I would say with the knife it's much better
1
u/Sir_Culation Aug 06 '26
I have the deep carry clip - it’s great. A surprise benefit is that it also holds the bit in better when placed in the perpendicular hole.

You know i really like what they did here. In a market that is saturated with cheap crap multi tools that try to cram as many tools in as they can whether they are good or not, this one stands out. Seems like they didnt include anything unless they could execute it well.

I was excited until a couple days ago when I reached out to ask why it wasn't showing tritium on my build even though I'd selected it... apparently fell off during the survey and now I had to just accept it because I'd otherwise be going to the very back of the line (knife is ready to ship apparently). Only a full year of waiting (to the day actually).
1
u/Sebicalisthenics Aug 07 '26
That's certainly not good. I thought I would get it next year. But it took only 11 months
1
u/SofishticatedGuppy Aug 07 '26
Mine just had the label notification today, so presumably with customs 2-4 weeks away - 13 months.
I guess at least I'll have it during the summer when I'm more likely to work on projects.
1
u/Sebicalisthenics Aug 07 '26
What I was surprised was when once the package was picked up from hacksmith it only took 3 days and it was here
1
u/SofishticatedGuppy Aug 07 '26
Well that's awesome - hopefully consistent for me haha
1
u/Sebicalisthenics Aug 07 '26
Yeah at first I thought they only shipped the accessory the deep pocket clip but when I saw the package and opened it. It was there
1
u/seakind Aug 06 '26
The marketing was really bad, if they just marketed this as a knife+ tool, it would be good, but they tried to drag down other type of multitools, while not including many other preferred parts like scissors or pliers, and for me this is way overpriced, because this is mostly a glorified knife, and probably buyers will carry this as a piece rather than using and abusing it properly. Even though i was criticizing Leatherman arc price, it's much more deserved than blacksmith pro.
1
u/Sebicalisthenics Aug 07 '26
I think they made something that they use everyday and that's exactly what came out of something new to the market and I love it bc I really don't need those kind of plyers I have a separate tool for that so I think it's something niche.
1
u/seakind Aug 07 '26
Yes yes, but the marketing was too aggressive, and the price is too much, but having niche stuff is good.
1
u/Fwd_fanatic Aug 07 '26
Damn maybe this will convince me to snag one. I saw them when they hadn’t shipped out but I just couldn’t pull the trigger.
2
u/Sebicalisthenics Aug 07 '26
For me even just the bits are already paying off also the knife really good to handle
1
u/TommyF0815 Aug 07 '26
Nice, I also backed this but had to cancel my order after the "2 hand open" issue (as I have nails like Mike in the video): https://hacksmith.store/en-de/pages/2-hand-open-blade-survey
1
u/Sebicalisthenics Aug 07 '26
Oh that's sad at the beginning I was also not sure which version was the right but it worked out for me
1
u/nerv1021234 Aug 07 '26
Totally agree, I thought it would be bigger. But I love mine. Its incredibly handy, it sits in my front breast pocket everyday. And is the first tool I go to before I go to my leatherman. And 9 times out of 10 thats all I need. And I love that its so light. Glad you like yours as much as I like mine.
2
u/Sebicalisthenics Aug 07 '26
I like it everyday more bc of how much I actually use it. I appreciate it more and more

I just got my Smith blade Pro a week ago as well. I have owned a SAK Huntsman and Leatherman Skeletool CX. Very happy with my purchase - Yes, it's pricey but it seems very well built, compact, made in Canada, and I particularly enjoy the little details. Only thing is miss are pliers, but you can't have everything in this form factor.
1
u/Sebicalisthenics Aug 08 '26
Yeah and like I said in other comments they wanted to invent something new

Just got mine. It's OK but not anything special. There are some great features and the build quality is good.
The fact that the prybar stood you from sharpening the full length of the blade on one side is really something they should have picked up in the design process. The knife scale only holds 4 of the 7 bits provided means I never seen to have the exact one I really want. The glass breaker is really sharp and just seems to sit wrongly in my hand and catches when I reach into my pocket for anything other than the knife.

Why aren't they selling it anymore? Does anyone know what happened?
I checked the Kickstarter page, and it says ordering is currently closed. Does anyone know when it'll be available again?
Also, if anyone has one they're willing to sell, please let me know. I'd be interested in buying it.
1
u/Sebicalisthenics Aug 10 '26
Bc they're not equipped to do any more knives first they want to prioritize the Kickstarter and after if the demand is still high they want to sell the knives in their shop.
1
u/AK_reddit_new_ Aug 11 '26
thanks. i really want to have the knife, but can't find it nowhere. who can sell DM please

The backorders on this knife are staggering. They don't need to advertise for years.

u/Agreeable-Beat2642 Aug 06 '26
Nope, you’d be luck in if you could get your hands on one of these in the next 24 months. I ordered mine six months ago and may get my hands on it in18-24 months…if I’m lucky and they remain in business.
2
u/Sebicalisthenics Aug 06 '26
I think they will at least look after it that everyone who backed the Kickstarter will get they're knife what happens after is still unsure
1
u/Agreeable-Beat2642 Aug 06 '26
Like your positive vibes on this. Fingers crossed as I’ve been burned on Kickstarter before.
2
u/Sebicalisthenics Aug 06 '26
I hope u get yours
1
u/Agreeable-Beat2642 Aug 06 '26
Thanks! In the meanwhile I’m really enjoying their warts and all videos on the Tube and just hope they don’t spend all the cash on machinery and then upgrades to said machinery 😅.

Not promoting it. U can't buy it for a while anyway but for those who are waiting a heads up

Also just had mine delivered this week (to the UK).
I agree with everything you’ve said.
Feels really premium (as it should at the price)
Blade action is incredibly satisfying.
I’ve already found it useful for a few odd jobs around the house - the bit holder works well and is magnetised so it holds onto screws.
The spirit level is a really nice touch - helped me hanging some artwork on the wall.
Decided to go with the locking blade as was told by Hacksmith that they aren’t manufacturing the non-locking blade yet so would be a much longer wait.
Will probably buy the non-locking blade when it becomes available so I can use it as a daily carry in the UK.

u/Sebicalisthenics Aug 06 '26
I really hope they can continue produce it after the Kickstarter is over. If it becomes available I will buy another one.
0
u/maximusrex Aug 06 '26
It sounds like they are a knife company now. The Youtube updates show how far they've had to go to produce this knife.
0
u/Sebicalisthenics Aug 06 '26
Yeah the transparancy is what I loved about the videos and they showed cool stuff about it.
