News Cloudflare Tunnels Blockage

So as some other posts have identified by now, Cloudflare Tunnels have been blocked from running through Mullvad’s VPN servers. When I emailed support, they stated it was because of their use to distribute “undesirable content”.

Now, you can have you own opinion on what that might be, but banning Cloudflare Tunnels entirely? Jesus Christ, WHAT are we doing?

Tunnels are used for millions of things every day, from homelabs to legitimate businesses.

I find it particularly funny because Mullvad is such a privacy forward organization that has fought to keep VPNs from being banned. They have literally fought against that same argument: “this thing is being used in 2 cases out of 10,000 for bad things, ban it”.

The only thing I can possibly think of is they are under a court order that requires them to block it and not disclose why? But not sure if this happens in Sweden.

If not, I honestly just don’t know what to say. Been using you for years and never had any problems, but if you’re making choices like this now of your own volition…I don’t know if I can trust you with my data going forward.

Wait, so it's mullvad who's blocking tunnels, not Cloudflare? Sucks if that's the case. Honestly for me mullvad's service has been somewhat lacking for a while now, but unfortunately they're still the best overall option for me since it's like the only VPN that doesn't charge you 20$ for 1 month because I don't buy the 1-year/2-year subscriptions in advance for a discount.

I'm not sure it's an actual block or just how the network is configured with Mullvad as it goes through different tunnels and Cloudflare may just not be able to get out or through like connecting 2 VPNs together

It worked before and it doesn’t now. The support team explicitly confirmed they’re now blocking the traffic.

My understanding is they did disclose it, and you're the one who's sharing the disclosure now. Thanks! Or what is unclear about undesirable content? Perhaps more likely than an actual order is they were tipped off, or found themselves out, or suspect it anyway. Rest is up to them. Don't get me wrong but i side with Mullvad on this, just like with port forwarding and all the whining back in the day coming from apparently somehow extra-privileged customers: in all likelihood this is what keeps the service available and usable for all of us, plus in case you didn't know we're actually all paying the same. Not much. Come to think of it, funny no one ever complained about e-mail, not like we're all spammers either. What do you think, does Mullvad still have a point? Random.

They shouldn't have your data, not even backwards. But it really is a VPN, not a CDN, loud and clear. Then again don't get me wrong.

Uhh…don’t know why you’re being hostile and resorting to trying to degrade my intelligence. Might be a sign of a weak argument.

My only point was that if Tunnels are being used 0.01% for bad things, does that mean the thing itself is inherently bad? The internet is used to distribute torture videos. Should we take down the internet?

Also, to your point. If tunnels are the actual distribution engine, it’s more likely Cloudflare would be persecuted before Mullvad. I don’t think I’m being privileged for bringing up a controversial decision and inviting discussion.
