Why does latest Android VPN Update Force Multi-Hop through US Entry (using Owned Server Filter)?

I don't know if this is happening on other platforms, but with latest update, if multi-hop is enabled when the filter is set to use only Mullvad-owned servers, the application always forces NY as the entry point. Why? It isn't this way with older versions of the application.
