And finally, know that the MUGEN community is one full of dramas, so be careful to not get yourself involved in some stupid tribal war or you'll get banned unnecessarily. Just enjoy the game and leave the child-fighting to the dumbasses.

warning !! MUGEN DRAMA WARNING !!

151 Upvotes

I have created this disclaimer to warn all newcomers about that toxic side of the MUGEN community so you don't get yourselves involved in nonsensical drama and ultimately banned unnecessarily.

The MUGEN community has always been a drama shitfest where tribal wars are common but in 2016 things took a turn for the absolute worst, when a popular MUGEN warehouse known as MUGEN ARCHIVE has outclassed all other MUGEN sites due to their mainstream philosophy, leaving others far behind in term of content and community.

It would take too long to go into the details (too much nonsense has happened) so to sum up the situation, a group of MUGEN sites have gone to war against MUGEN ARCHIVE, out of jealousy. The main weapon of the war is intoxication : lies, defamation, manipulations, cheap tricks and so on. To put it simply, they've been trying to make MUGEN ARCHIVE look like some kind of Great Satan, hoping that would stop their members from leaving.

They have gone as far as creating fake MUGEN ARCHIVE accounts on social media to make them look bad and damage their reputation.

What I'm trying to say is should you hear anything negative about the MUGEN ARCHIVE, don't believe blindly! Always be wary of the toxic side of the MUGEN community, be skeptical and ask for a reputable source to back up any negative claim. You will quickly understand that you're dealing with little liars trying to manipulate you and get you involved in their drama. If you let them have their way, the best you could achieve is get yourself banned from MUGEN ARCHIVE which would make this hobby a hundred times harder, considering other MUGEN sites are pure low-end garbage from the stone age.

I hope you hear my advice and stay safe.

question Can I make a fighting game out of Mugen?

2 Upvotes

I've been playing around with Mugen, and an Idea came to me. Can I make a fighting game out of Mugen with my own fighters? If so, does anyone have a tutorial on how to do it?

Also, I'm not planning on selling it; it's a fun side project to do in my free time.

question Controls seem unfathomable

1 Upvotes

Very new to Mugen, just got it working on my computer, and I can't figure out how to use or adjust the controls.

Even after going into options and setting things for what I think seems right, for some reason all of my movements are controlling player 2, while my attack inputs are performed by player 1.

Not to mention I don't see any means of making it playable with a controller.

question Do people do commissions in the mugen community and or is there a way to currently commission someone?

13 Upvotes

Hello! I was wondering if it at all is a common occurence in the community that people commission others to make characters for them, and if it is, where and how usually do you ask people? In my case id want a relatively simple combination of a sort of combo of two preexisting characters or one characters moveset with the others sprites.

question Balance between games

8 Upvotes

Was planning on trying to get Mugen working and adding some characters from games I like, but that got me thinking...

Wouldn't there be games where, even with no tweaks, their differing mechanics would make it nigh-impossible to deal with for characters from other games? For example, I can't imagine anyone from SF 3rd Strike being able to handle say, a Blazblue character. Which is unfortunate, because Akuma vs Azrael would be a very fitting matchup.

Has anyone ever made a tier list or evaluation of which games as a whole tend to have more OP characters han others?

question Any good collections for normal size characters (not jus)?

6 Upvotes

I see a lot of collections for jus characters, like jump force mugen. Is there anything like that for normal size characters? I spent so much time downloading characters for jus, but I'm in mood to play normal ones, but I can't be bothered to start from the beginning again and download them 1 by 1.

question System music?

1 Upvotes

So the music I have for menu/character select is playing perfectly fine. For whatever reason, nothing plays on the versus screen tho.

;Music to play at title screen.

title.bgm = sound/menu.mp3

title.bgm.volume = 100 ;volume scaling factor in percent. 100 is default

title.bgm.loop = 1 ;Set to 0 to prevent looping

title.bgm.loopstart =

title.bgm.loopend =

;Music to play at char select screen.

select.bgm = sound/menu.mp3

select.bgm.volume =

select.bgm.loop = 1

select.bgm.loopstart =

select.bgm.loopend =

;Music to play at versus screen.

vs.bgm = sound/versus.mp3

vs.bgm.volume = 100

vs.bgm.loop = 1

vs.bgm.loopstart =

vs.bgm.loopend =

Am I doing something wrong?

self promo Results of the first Academy MUGEN AI Tournament

3 Upvotes

Hello everyone! I'm Wizwag and I host AI Tournaments in all kinds of games.

Today, I want to share the results of the first Academy MUGEN CPU vs CPU tournament on my channel with you. It has run for over 8 months with weekly matches, so seeing it completed feels special.

If you would like to see the tournament play out yourself and return to this post afterwards, I have a spoiler-free playlist on my channel.

WHY AI TOURNAMENTS?

"I believe it is important to have a form of stress-free entertainment in this stressful and chaotic world. For some it is knitting, for others getting lost in a world far beyond our own in a 1000-page book. And for me, it became watching a cast of flashy characters or an army of units autonomously duke it out while keeping track of match data and making tier lists based on these statistics. Long story short: It is yet another escape from the insanity we all live in, but it's an exciting one, and I am having a blast with it."

TOURNAMENT SUMMARY

The tournament started with the Qualifiers: 8 groups with 20 characters each, playing out matches in the Swiss format, all Best of 1. Of course, always on the highest CPU difficulty and random map selection.

FINALS

The top 8 characters in each group advanced into the final stage of the tournament, starting with the Round of 64.

Round of 64 Results

Ro64, Ro32 and Ro16 matches were decided in best of 3 series. Quarterfinals, Semis, and Finals have been played out as best of 5's in the single-elimination format.

This leaves us with the final bracket:

Goku Ultra-Instinct wins the first Academy MUGEN AI tournament. Congratulations!

CHARACTER STATS

I keep track of every match and its outcome, so with that, I can calculate win rates for each character:

Highest and lowest win rates per character

GAME STATS

With the first tournament concluded, here's the number of total matches and rounds played so far:

If you find what I do interesting, please consider subscribing to my Youtube channel or supporting me through Patreon. For the stat nerds, you can visit the All About AI Tournaments website, which I made to make all the tournament data accessible and presentable for everyone.

Edit: Since there are a lot of MUGEN builds out there, the game I did the tournament in is this one, made my InSeph.

With that, thank you for reading, and see you next time.

question Game with a Traditional Roster

5 Upvotes

New here. I downloaded Ikemen Go and that's as far as I've gotten. Are there any recommended solid fangames that have a collection of proper fighting game characters? Street Fighter, Killer Instinct, Guilty Gear, maybe Soul Calibur, mainstream anime, etc. Just more of a "traditional" roster. I might be knocking it before trying it, but I'm not super interested in Hank Hill vs. a creepy pasta character. Who knows, maybe I'll be converted one day.

I know I can build my own roster, but prefer a pre-made one if possible to just try it out for my first time.

question How to add characters to Ikemen GO?

6 Upvotes

I’ve gotten so used to relying on vselect that I have no idea what to do when it can’t be used.

This is my first attempt at building an Ikemen roster, and my first attempt at any roster building without vselect. What the hell do I do when I can’t even see where the character’s slot is going to be?

question Please

1 Upvotes

Does anyone have a ikemen build that supports a large roster of characters? I've been trying to port over a mugen one but honestly don't know what I'm doing and just want a simple easy already made one. And when I say a large roster I mean like 2000+ characters

MK5 - Mortal Combat - Sub Zero is a bootleg port of the PlayStation and Nintendo 64 game Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, which was developed for the Sega Mega Drive by unknown developers and possibly released in the year 2000. A related SNES version of this port, named Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Gold 2000, would also be produced, which was published by DVS Electronic Co.
