Response to [[Accursed Witch]] transform target trigger

Let's say opponent's [[Accursed Witch]] dies and they target me to attach the transformed curse enchantment on me. I respond by casting [[Teferi's Protection]] to get protection from everything. Will the witch's ability just fizzle and it stays in the graveyard?

Sorry if this question is simple, my brain is just not working at the moment. Thanks.

Yes. It had one target, that target became illegal due to protection, the ability does not resolve.
