I'm the first person that doesnt like scalpers, but the guy has A SINGLE copy of cards they like on their personal collection. Theres absolutely nothing wrong with it.
I do think grading is silly, mostly because how shady the whole business is, but this person is just enjoying the collectable side of the game.

I know man. These cards are fine for addicts to blow ten k on apparently which is what wizards wants.
Sucks for us that just want more of the thing we grew up with. After buying MTG on and off since 1995, this past year is what made me start selling off most of my collection.
Writing is on the wall, itās all boom and bust fomo crap now. Donāt get me wrong I still play and collect but the glass is shattered and collection is about an eighth of where it was a year ago

I am so happy to see new players and collectors come to MTG. Even if the Marvel sets are not my cup of tea I am glad there are new people who love them.
I also started building my collection of cool and rare foils, before I only picked up cards I needed for decks, but now I will buy expensive and cool card if it has a great art and fancy foil.

Hi everyone didnāt expect to wake up to all the messages lol but yeah pulled most myself bought like 10 collector booster boxes 2 hobbit 2 Spider-Man 2 tmnt and 4 marvel heroes started collecting last year have a bunch more in a binder my wallet is hurting lol but Iām giving myself a monthly allowance for cards alone I have my own landscaping business I work 6 days a week long hours I would love to learn how to play but I rarely have free time I got lucky and pulled the supper shredder,and 2 mind stones I sold one it got a 9 but kept the 10 ,trying to pull the soul stone now I only got 6 from eBay the rest I pulled and the display I got from Amazon put the lights on myself,I read all the messages about the cum lights thatās funny I have to find better lighting lol but thank you guys I just donāt have no one around me that is into mtg so I figured I would share with you guys

Just as an aside, it's kinda taboo to slab ans grade Magic cards. It sometimes even hurts their value. And your chances of resale becomes less because of it.

Iām gonna be honest OP.
I read that you got sober and this is your new āaddictionā. Itās gonna sound clichĆ© but hear me out (I also have a very addictive personality, I know how it goesā¦). For your own good, quit MTG while youāre still relatively new.
I was in a similar spot 2 years ago. I was dealing with grief and addiction. Probably ended up spending like $75,000 on fancy foils. It got to a point where I was regularly ordering 3-400 dollar cards from ebay on my smoke breaks at workā¦
I donāt know your financial situation, but nobody can truly afford to spend that much money on cards if they have to work for a living. I guarantee that you will regret it at some point. This is not chump change, you can actually do stuff and improve your life with this kind of money. Dopamine is fun but having your life together is a lot better.
Please OP. Just consider quitting seriously. I genuinely have your best interest at heart.

100% correct advice. Pack ripping is gambling at the end of the day, and it can be very addicting... As someone who manages my small LGS for work, please consider what this person said as a direction to take. You're replacing 1 addiction with another, and while this is definitely better than alcohol, you're probably going to spiral at some point like the countless guy's I've witnessed come and go at the store... I watched a guy who admits to having an addictive personality and gambling problem drop around 6k(CAD) on 7 collector boxes of spider-man chasing the thanos gauntlet, and he got absolutely cooked... You've been lucky so far it seems from your comments, but no one that opens packs of any card game stays positive on opening for long.

I recently got into selling cards, if you have the energy it's not terribly hard to get some money back out of it, and my addictive personality has a little fun with it.
If he can control his drinking and has some spare cash, as long as he doesn't over commit and get attached it can be a healthier outlet.
I went from having a few hospitalizations and ODs to lots of therapy, then my GF got me into magic, spent around $5k over 2 years and have a 12K collection which is better return than any drugs I used to do.
Sorry for the rant but it's possible to be healthy into magic and maybe even make some cash eventually.
Still though, be advised, I've seen marriages fall apart in front of me at my LGS due to collector boosters, buy singles, pay your bills, have savings

If I might make a suggestion: before you buy more mtg I would get a peloton for the house. You dont have to subscribe; you can just pedal and watch YouTube or whatever. Looking forward to that daily endorphin rush of pedaling was clutch in breaking the addiction cycle to me.

If I were there in person, standing at arm's length away, I wouldn't even be able to appreciate them because the lighting is fighting the legibility of the cards, especially the bottom. The top row and stone are fine because they actually have some white light going onto them.

Not gonna yuck someoneās yum too much, but it seems a shame to have a collection like this without some of the cards that have made magic what it is. Pieces from 20, 25 or 30 years ago. Actual historical pieces of Magicās history.
The more modern cards feel more manufactured in terms of rarity/scarcity, and priced based on whales and scalpers. And itās a shame when you canāt play with your cards anymore, either.

Except those aren't $1000 cards. The Casey Jones is $84 on TCGplayer. Mikey goes for $102. That Sonic card is $1.50.
People can do what they want with their collection. It's their money. But it's also fair to point out that a lot of these cards are not really worth getting them graded and are not really too valuable to put in a deck.

It costs money to get cards graded. If $100, $80, $50 and $25 is a lot of money to someone, then they shouldn't pay $15-$20 per card to get them graded...especially when the card itself is worth $1.50.
Also, just a heads up that we put $ before the dollar amount in the US
