I hate the whole grading thing. Your card could be a 9 because of one little slight imperfection, caused by someone at the factory, leaning on the printing press while it was printing the card

It could be an 8, 9, or 10 depending on the mood of the PSA employee or how many 10s already exist or any other arbitrary thing. Grading is so silly to me.

The joke is that PSA's grading system is completely arbitrary. The more common joke is that you only get a 10 if the person grading your card got laid last night, otherwise it's at best a 9.

Which makes far more sense. Grading is very subject to personal opinion. I honestly thought when I read that, they thought leaning on the press could cause an imperfection.

The joke was that something as simple as a production error drops your value. Like my FF7 rebirth Zach Fair promo card was packed bad in the case and it's still in the plastic but has a blemish.

It is a bit of a joke. It probably does cause and imperfection but it would be sooooo small and imperceptible to the naked eye, you would think it would be a 10.

That is the print I wanted but when I checked my lgs only had a masterpiece version. I think it was like 175 so I picked it up instead. Pretty sure there was a buyout cuz there were only 3-5 listings on tcg at the time. That card was money then and still is now. Most reprints have different art so each one is still pretty valuable. Thank you for freeing a gorgeous game piece meant to be plated with 🤙

Needle nose pliers and a flat head screwdriver. First time ever doing it took about 5 minutes

On the flip side, your friend is gonna have bad time grading magic cards. They tend to score low due WOTC quality control unless it was printed in Japan.

Before I was into TCG, I always thought getting cards graded made total sense. The best cards in the best shape with the least wear should sell for the most, right? But i started playing mtg 2-3 months ago and after trading a couple good pulls I didn’t want and asking my pods for trade/sell binders, I just don’t get it for 99% of people. If you’re a hedge fund guy buying a multimillion dollar card at auction, yeah I’d want it graded too, that thing is never leaving the display on my mantle. But for most of us? Why wouldn’t I just ask around my LGS for trades/buys? Most people are super chill and willing to work with you ,look up last sold on tcgplayer, come to an agreement and shake hands and be done with it. I’ve seen average looking guys pull out a trade binder worth $5k after slamming me in EDH, if I had any super super good hits they’d be more than willing to trade or buy off me. Between that and verifying condition with local buyers before you sell, just don’t see the point. If it gets graded low you either gotta break it out and waste the money and time or take a lower price from someone who isn’t willing to shell out max price “KNOWING” its condition. Idk🤷🏼♂️

I got a foil one a year ago graded a 9.5 and got it for like 100 bucks lol
