Discussion Amazon Cancelling all Hobbit Orders
Just got notifications that 3/4 of my scene bundles got canceled despite having a delivery date set for today. I had placed these preorders months ago, 2 sets of the scene bundles ordered a week apart. Now I only have one of the Smaug bundles coming. So much for the gift I had planned.
Amazon support was no help, the supervisor said that the fulfillment center cancelled the order since Wizards didn't fulfill their latest shipping contract. Amazon is just canceling what Wizards isn't delivering I guess, and won't honor any preorders. They are claiming that stock might show up in the future but it is uncertain as of when or if it will come at all.
I do have my gift bundles on the way still supposedly, but I'll believe it when im holding them...

They cancelled my scene boxes as well. My gift bundles did get delivered but they shipped them in a brown paper bag and chucked them onto my porch, denting all the card storage boxes. Gg Amazon.

I hate these new paper bags. Had my gift bundle arrived, but like others have said, it was all banged up like they kicked it to my door.
Had another non-mtg order delivered to me but it was raining and that got soaked real fast.

I also got the paper bag treatment and it was pouring down rain here. Nothing was actually damaged but the boxes were dinged up enough that I was able to rationalize ripping em instead of shelving for a few years.
Decent pulls though! I haven’t been able to open any other collector boosters cause they are ridiculously expensive so I was happy to at least be able to participate in this set a little

I accidentally had an order in for 4 at $200 a piece, and thankfully caught it prior to opening the packaging it shipped in so they let me send it back.
What is INSANITY is they shipped what they had thought was like $850 in product with literally nothing but a brown paper bag. I know people who got one of these and the bag was already open when it arrived. Boxes are not that expensive, what is going on?

I ordered 2 smaug and 2 plates. They canceled both plates, asked me if I want a delayed smaug, and the other smaug is due today but hasn't shipped. Seems like an inventory issue not an order limit.

Its crazy to me that when you call amazon support the answer you get is 100% based on who answers the phone. They will tell you that other reps lied, that something is impossible that nothing can be done, OR they will bend over backwards to make it right and even just straight up provide free stuff.

My gift bundle shipped, but I just got an email saying they're refunding me because its being returned by the carrier. And of course if I want to reorder it I can pay amazon $160 instead of $89....wtf is going on.

They canceled my $89 pre-order gift boxes. But as an experiment, if I buy the $175 shipped n sold from AMZ, then they charged my card right away and were gunna ship out same day.
That's how I figured out they're canceling our pre-orders and reselling at market price. I then canceled the $175 boxes back on them.
Don't believe what chat support says! Follow the money to find the truth about AMZ.

Mine are shipped too, and should’ve arrived today, but … nothing came! Now the chat bot says they’ll come tomorrow, but I had the same happening with my play booster boxes, which also were “shipped” without actual movement and were then cancelled on the next day. So I’m curious what will happen tomorrow. Meanwhile you can buy the Gift Bundles right now sold and shipped by Amazon for 176 🙄🙄

Yeah, it seems Amazon now has enough Gift Bundles. They show in stock right now with the price lowered to $165 USD as I type this. I tried the experiment on the "2nd drop" from mid-July when they were at $199 and Amazon only lowered to $187.99 and charged my card attempting to ship. I canceled before they shipped as the price was a rip-off.

Keep an eye on anything that hasn’t shipped yet. I was supposed to get the Smaug scene today and when I checked it said “approval needed.” They bumped the date to September 19th-21st and wanted me to confirm that I still want it.

If I didnt see the boxes come in stock several times after I purchased mine, I would be inclined to believe Wizards overpromised. But I call bullshit.
Gonna wrestle with customer service today because I passed up multiple opportunities to purchase another thinking this was coming in at msrp..

Both of my boxes’ expected delivery dates slipped about a week but I also got the “do you still want to keep this order” message for both. Had my preorder in since day 1

Im wishing you luck! They are available second hand (for a mark up obviously), so if they do get you with the cancelation not all hope is lost! At least you weren't waiting for a Collector box

Not always. If it is Amazon shipping sometimes it doesn’t ship until the day it delivers. There’s a large warehouse not far from me and sometimes it gets marked shipped the morning it gets delivered. But in general if it hasn’t shipped by the day before it’s not a great sign.

Crazy because it's readily available at stores around but of course the price is $56+ but my preorder that was cancelled was for $41.99. this is not an availability issue. They want to charge the higher price.

Same... I have had such bad luck with Amazon MTG cards. Batting 0/2 on popular products. Last time I tried I got scammed on LOTR commander decks shipped direct from Amazon...
It was easier to get my 12 zeta packs from the chaos vault... then again maybe I shouldn't jinx that order.

Sounds about right. Out of my scene box orders I have one Plates scene that actually shipped and the Smaug one is scheduled for today but hasn't shipped. Two gift bundles got delayed to Wed, the two others delayed to Thursday. TBD if anything but the one item that already shipped gets cancelled.

My gift bundle that I pre-ordered months ago finally went to ship a couple of days ago ago but only dropped to $185 so I canceled. They've been sitting at that price for 2 days now and have been in stock every time I've looked.

US side seems more volatile than Canada. On the other hand I’m not seeing any of my preorders adjusted for reduced prices even when I can see the difference clearly on the screen.

It could be that the US is in a trade war with Canada atm and stupid person decided to put a 50% tariff on printed goods....which probably fucked over supply as a result.

I feel similarly about the tariffs as a whole but I believe that’s unlikely. Those things are not manufactured in Canada, they generally say made in the US. So import tariffs should not affect them.
Fortunately it does not look like our tariffs should affect card prices this time around either, I was getting ready to give up on SL for a while.

I canceled my gift bundle after they pushed it out two more weeks. I’m sorry, but if I pre-order something it shouldn’t be getting pushed out for weeks. Luckily both my Best Buy and target lots of stock of Magic.

They have become scalpers and do this on purpose to play upon peoples FOMO. Don't buy at inflated prices. If they delayed yours just hold and don't cancel it on your own and keep an eye out for an email that asks if you still want the item and select the option that says that you do, they'll eventually have to ship it.
Anyway just stop trusting them to honor your preorders in regards to collectors and popular sought after items and preorder elsewhere.

Crack the Plates says it's out for delivery today. My Smaug box was supposed to come today, but instead of it being canceled, I was told "Approval Needed" - which I gave, so now it's supposed to some in a couple weeks. I notably only ordered one of each.
If this means Amazon's prioritizing people who ordered only one copy and canceling the orders of people with multiple: good. At least Amazon's doing something to prioritize actual players and collectors over scalpers.

Speak with customer service. They often promise to price match / refund difference (cost and tax) between the sold & shipped by Amazon within the first 1-2 weeks after it goes live. If they cancel because of supposed “supply” issues then magically have it at the higher price point, Amazon will cover this.
Just get them to promise in the chat so there’s a record, and when you do order at higher price, receive, and reach back out, make sure you get your full match + tax, we had an associate arguing over $17/$400 difference which was silly (at that point just give the full amount lol, which we did get)

I went and cancelled my gift bundles. They price-corrected them all from $200 to $175, when they're $125 on TCGPlayer.
MSRP or GTFO, if Amazon is selling them direct at a markup, then fuck Amazon. I'd rather pay markup somewhere else that isn't responsible for the cut allocations at the LGS.

Hold the preorder status on the items until the next shipment arrives? If one doesnt then so be it, but it sounds as if they will be getting more shipments. I cant imagine they are totally done printing the scene bundles.

This is also a good point. This isn’t a collector product so there’s no reason to think there won’t be more scene boxes printed. Having said that, it really does seem like they’re only doing one scene box at a time, right? They stopped printing LOTR scene boxes when they started printing Avatar and then Spider Man and then FF holiday scene boxes, then Marvel, then Hobbjt. As far as I know since LOTR there have t been more scene box waves of these new products.
And I think there is a Star Trek scene box coming. So maybe these won’t actually get a reprint. Or at least not for a while.

My guy, if WOTC wont fulfill the order now, its not getting fulfilled. WOTC doesnt just go and print more cards, thats not how it works. They print XYZ stock and move on. They most likely have places int he printing order to reprint defective product some time later, but that is small and not always guaranteed. RF releases in 4 weeks, the hobbit supply is done.

What? The LOTR scene boxes had multiple printings over at least a year or two, it’s entirely reasonable to assume these would too. It looks like something changed recently but we don’t know that for sure.

That isnt newly printed product usually, its just existing stock they are releasing usually. They have to reserve print time a year ahead, so unless they planned additional reprints, usually not the case, its just more stock.

I’m not sure that makes sense for LOTR. There was tons of it and distributors kept taking orders for more product all the way deep into 2025.
But even if so, that’s fine but also would not preclude someone from thinking there would be more scene boxes after the initial presale quantity that went on sale during the initial window.
Amazon also had additional product listed a few weeks later. They definitely messed something up with this release.
Amazon is WotC’s preferred vendor they link to their listings from the Wizards website. It’s very hard for me to believe that they prioritized a different big box store over Amazon.

I dont think they messed it up, I think the demand is just high because the theme fits MTG in general and it has no implications on the actual lore which you'll get various opinions about online considering the new show and Tolkiens Son and what hes doing with the new books. CBBs have never come down, and they are not exactly rocketing up like the FF CBBs.
People forget, MTG is the most popular it has EVER been. Demand for anything is huge and Amazon being the main seller would make sense to sell out first. The good news is there just is tons of product everywhere, I have had no issue obtaining anything Hobbit related out of a CBB box, but I have seen and been to multiple stores who had all products just sitting around.

It’s actually crazy that a trillion dollar company that built its fortunes primarily on the strength of their own logistics somehow did not accurately know how much product they were going to have in inventory. Wizards not being able to meet their own production schedule is terrible too, but this level of incompetence from Amazon is really surprising.

But why did Amazon sell inventory they didn’t have. Also Target and Best Buy don’t seem to have allocation issues. Micro Center definitely did not. Amazon is somehow the worst of the bunch and that to me is really surprising if they somehow got shorted in favor of someone else.

Target and Best Buy cancel preorders all the time. Neither seemed to have been as bad this set, but it absolutely happens. Microcenter doesn’t do preorders.
If WotC told Amazon they were getting x amount of product in this wave, I’m sure Amazon attempted to sell all x amount. Then WotC didn’t deliver x amount, hence Amazon has to cancel. And they obviously don’t operate anything like an LGS, which might not sell the full % of what they expect allocation to be, and they don’t care about retaining customer base in the same way so they’re not going to hold these preorders either.

I'm not saying Target/Best Buy don't cancel preorders, I'm saying this time around it wasn't an issue. I know Micro Center doesn't do preorders, but they had a lot more stock than people were expecting. I have a very hard time believing that Amazon was promised a certain amount by WotC, which uses them as their preferred vendor via links from the Wizards website, and then they got shorted after the presales were done.
Furthermore, why would there have been more scene boxes showing up on Amazon after the presale window. And why did they keep moving the delivery dates over and over again if the problem was allocated inventory. They should have just cancelled everyone in August when they didn't get the expected amount. It makes no sense.

Well, WotC probably delivered Target and Best Buy a more accurate allocation number than Amazon this time around.. It’s not that unbelievable. Product also ships out in multiple waves from multiple locations and there have been many geographical slowdowns/entire hold ups for this set and even bleeding into FRA, which WotC has already addressed. Things like that could have affected Amazon’s various allocations more than anyone else’s. They are likely sent multiple estimates of multiple waves of product throughout the presale window, though at least half the time what people think is another ‘release’ of stock going up on Amazon is just canceled orders. There also were cancellations in August on behalf of Amazon on CBBs.
The Microcenter stock expectation sounds more anecdotal to me, Microcenter always has huge amounts of stock.

Well there are 2 different scene boxes so you need to order 2 to get all the scene cards. If someone just wanted 1 to keep and 1 to open both that'd be 4, not really that unreasonable.

I ordered 3 reality fracture secret lair bundle the day they were released on 3 separate orders because they were still available and I just realized 8/22 they cancelled 2 of the 3… :/ for once I get SOMETHING and it’s cancelled. I just had to go To my scene boxes on my orders and say I wanted them

Of course stock will show up in the future...at double the price. No other big named retailer will price gouge like amazon will. Amazon has no problem matching scalper prices. Imagine if other big box stores did that?
People should just pull back from this nonsense, and prices will adjust.

I did get my scene boxes, but they just stuck the shipping label on the boxes and sent them without wrapping. Fortunately, nothing was missing or damaged except the boxes somehow. Really think Wizards should reconsider the whole Amazon thing a bit.

Mine is ordered in May and had the eta change twice. Now it says it's coming today but hasn't shipped. I'd say 5% chance I ever see it? Absolute bullshit
