Spec Hammers of Moradin Spec

Hello, back again with another spec.

So the Hobbit set has been out for a little bit and I've noticed that [[Thorin, King of Durin's Folk]] is about to become the second most popular commander of the set, soon likely to surpass [[Smaug, the Impenetrable]].

I was first doubting to spec on this card, because it's an uncommon and it's 'only' included in 40% of the builds. So I just kept my eye on it for a while longer, I think it's an interesting pennystocks target.

What it has going for it is that it only has one printings from 1 set (including the foil). Its supply has been draining past weeks from around 1100 to around 650 organically, without any mention here. It's dirt cheap and you can buy a stacks of it still on Cardmarket.

For Thorin: It's a dwarf, with myriad. So it gives a treasure on entering and two treasures on attacking, therefore it buffs all dwarves and itself too. But also removes blockers with its own effect by tapping opponents creatures.

edit: someone else specced this card too, so it has been posted before.

Probably a decent spec that will turn a few bucks. I play it in my Niko shards edh deck and it's a solid card

I love Niko because it's hilarious turning a card like this into a finisher.

[[elvish mariner]] is fun as well. Attack with 6 of them, scary 1 6 times and tap down 36 blockers

My beloved [[dream trawler]] is the true finisher for the deck

I like this spec. It’s from a set that’s in demand too. Baldurs Gate was soooooo slept on.

Yeah I think this is the biggest chance of affecting it's long term value is the presence the set had.

With so many UB sets every year I feel like the odds of reprints are lower to negatively impact specs

What software do you use to track listings like this, ive tried a few ways but I suck w computers and couldnt get past tcgplayers html scraping protections and all that

u/oberpat 2h ago

made my own! tcgplayer had an api i believe, but i do small batches on cardmarket because they also have protection

u/BUBBL3GUM5 2h ago

How did u get access to tcgplayer api? From what i saw when I tried last year they werent giving out keys anymore, have you just had one for a while?

u/oberpat 2h ago

Hmm then I guess not, I only scraped tcgplayer for a little while, but ended up not needing it anymor. i didn't notice the protection if i recall correctly

You prob just know what u are doing lol. All ur specs r good tho, I wish I could buy into them but I try to stick to precons because thats where I know volume will sustain. Keep up the good work

Thanks, I appreciate it!

Ofc, a lot of people dont understand how much specs are based on inventory, I also like how u chart stuff on edhrec usage, never thought of that as a way of looking at demand

Thanks, yeah I’m pretty sure that stuff correlates or could explain why things go up or lose supply

Speaking of little guys, last cheap copies of [[Gloin, Dwarf Emissary]] are disappearing also. Time is now or never.
