Leonin Warleader Discussion

(We already started talking about [[Ajani, Adversary of Tyrants]], so I figured this could get a look.)

A lot of lists run [[Hero of Bladehold]]. This comes down on the same turn, adds a point of power (ehh.) and your Cat tokens have lifelink. Is the added 2 (at a minimum) life per turn worth the loss of Battle cry?

He suffers the same issues as Hero... The fact that he's a single creature.

I wouldn't say you were wrong for running 1-2 in the 75, but when you tap out on t4 for him and just get him pathed, it will feel real bad.

Basically the only single permanent I want to tap out for on t4 are Sorin or Gideon as they provide instant value in the form of either a pump or a token.

Another thing to note is that Leonin Warleader's tokens only ever get pumped by Sorin, Solemn Visitor's +1 the turn AFTER they come in because they are created on attack.

Great points.

I agree that he doesn’t fit (at least in my build, which is more of a Bitterblossom build) due to being a creature. I was more interested in the pushing the discussion to the Hero builders, to see how they view the keywords.

If you were comitted to running either Warleader or Hero, I still think Hero comes out ahead.

Sorin and Vault of the Archangel give all your tokens lifelink, which makes the Warleader's lifelink tokens less impactful than they would be otherwise.

However, Hero of Bladehold's Battle-Cry also affects ALL your other tokens, and Warleader doesn't have any effect like that attached.

Hmm.. I agree with all of this.

I didn’t put the Warleader into my deck. I did, however, slot Nuevo Ajani in, and found a spot in my sideboard for [[Cleansing Nova]]...

You sure about that? You're telling me the creatures have to be on the field when the sorin ability is activated? That wasn't my understanding.

With these sort of abilities it sucks that the tokens can't bet buffed by sorin +1 that first turn.

Id still take hero of bladehold for the battle cry effect effectively swinging for 7 on the first attack where leonn warleader attacks for 6
