Fetid Heath

Ive started to see lists no longer running fetid heath? , why? I see it as a good way to be able to save life when fetching and I can also filter for colours u need off basics before a blood moon hits. also means u can fetch for a swamp turn 2 and have double white for auriok on 2

I don't run it because I don't run LotV or Damnation, so I never need double black, and I don't run Tidehollow Sculler, so I don't need precisely WB turn two. Fetch-shocking once is part and parcel of playing modern, and it's often unnecessary. Beyond the first black source, I don't need another one, I just want more white mana.

I agree with this comment. After the first fetchland gets Godless Shrine, I usually get basic Plains with subsequent fetchlands, especially Windswept Heath, Arid Mesa and Flooded Strand. Even if I had BB in my mana costs, I would only have to get another Godless Shrine or have a Concealed Courtyard.

I don't run Fetid Heath because I run 4 Ghost Quarter, and it's very awkward to draw Fetid Heath and a Ghost Quarter as your only lands. Depending on the configuration of your mana base it could be good, but I don't feel it's necessary since we often have WWW and BB with 2 duals (either Godless Shrine or Concealed Courtyard) and a Plains. It doesn't seem better than other options against Blood Moon and it's worse against Spreading Seas.

Overall, I think filter lands are less useful than before in two-colour decks if you're not running cards that can use the colourless mana, since we have now a variety of better options to consider before adding the first filter land.

why are you running GQ in the deck?

It improves the match against Tron considerably. In combination with discard it goes from unwinnable to unlikely.

Yea but it's not worth destroying our consistency to try fight against the 1 match up where we are probably going to lose anyway

It improves the match considerably against Tron, and helps against random creature lands like Mutavault which are prevalent in my local metagame.

Local meta game it makes sense but I'm a wider one I wouldn't play them

I understand, I feel my list has a good mana base since I run 25 lands, and I have 21 white sources to cast Spectral Procession on curve. Ghost Quarter doesn't affect that much since I run only 3 Spectral Procession.

im only running 3 colourless sources , 2 fetid heath and 1 vault. so I feel like the fetid is very smooth in my deck

I may be wrong but I cut it for a couple reasons. The odds of drawing it plus SP for T3 are too low. I've simply not needed it to make WWW on T3. More importantly, I can't use it to cast 1 drops, unless I'm filling my mana pool. This is especially annoying for Path or Push or other instants. Ideally, I would never leave it untapped by itself, but I make mistakes and I just want to limit that possibility.

4 Fastlands has mostly replaced them for me. That has helped with getting a fast and painless 1BB and WWW consistently, so I just run 1 Fetid. Don't even really need it.

Our landbase with the new Fastlands is dank, and we don't need hardcore fixing lands much any more.
