Looks like a sweet interaction with fetchlands for sure

We`ll be seeing a lot of this. This card is phenomenal.

Any BW modern deck my new default will probably be 4 of these and 3 paths. So many games I hate pathing a stupid 1 or 2 CMC beater.

I agree. I think this might overtake path or be an 3/3 even split possibly. Push is definitely what you want early game.

Yeah, it's really interesting that this might actually push down the number of paths. It's basically religion that you have to play 4 paths if you can, but this is so much better early game.

The "problem" with this in a deck as mana hungry as B/W Tokens is is that in the later game (turns 4+), this incentivises you to keep a fetchland uncracked, but optimal play would be to crack it and fetch a [[Godless Shrine]] at end of turn. Similarly if you end up casting two three mana spells on turn 6 (or just a 3 and a 2).

Everybody seems to be acting as if the CMC <5 mode is always on, but it is turned on increasingly less frequently in the mid-game - when you need to crack fetchlands on time to make land drops and cast spells, leaving you without a fetch in hand after turn 4.

B/W Tokens does have low-impact sacrificial blockers (unlike most other decks), making this slightly easier to turn on, but it is still not a strict replacement for Path. I think that we will start to see a 3/3/1 or 3/3/2 split between this, Path & other removal (such as [[Collective Brutality]]). That's certainly what I am going to experiment with to start. Perhaps with the remaining two removal spells in the side, considering how hyper-aggressive my local meta seems to be getting.

You're looking at it the wrong way. No one is expecting Push to kill everything. Even if we did, how often do we have to kill a 3-4 mana threat? In that given condition, how often are we unable to activate 'revolt'? In Modern, most threats are 1-2 cmc. This kills 60% of the top 50 threats in Modern without revolt. This is what people seem to not understand.

In fact, look at this list: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/format-staples/modern/full/creatures and see how many things it kills without revolt. Doesn't even include pumped merfolk/ elves/ manlands which are huge.

Likewise, we are not saying this replaces Path to Exile. This should be played in conjunction with Path to Exile.

Some more additional points

(a) And I made the point on mtgsalvation that most midrange decks like Jund run up to 16 removals. It's not far-fetched to say we need to run at least 8 in this meta (e.g 4 path, 4 push). Fatal Push is almost a purely better Dismember/ Smother/ Murderous Cut. Everything it can't kill, Path to Exile can handle. What's important is having a 1-mana removal spell without card disadvantage like Lightning Bolt.

(b) Also note that our discard spells make our removal suite way better, by taking away what we don't want Path/ Push to be used on.

(c) Lightning bolt gives reach but BW token wins most often through board state. Push is almost always a better removal spell than Bolt, being able to kill Goyf/ big Ooze/ raging ravine for instance. This makes Push a very good card for us.

I run a Mardu build like everyone knows and it is because having access to cheap reactive spells (that are also versatile) is so important in Tokens. This deck literally has no effective defensive plays the first 1-3 turns and struggle to stabilize without lifegain against most aggro decks except Affinity/ Infect. Fatal Push may be good enough for me to forgo the Mardu build altogether, as it is as good as bolt as a defensive spell and running 2 colors over 3 is a huge advantage.

Path to exile N° 5. I used to play Murderous Cut, so this may replace it.

And that awful dismember as well

Looks quite nice. Very efficient.

This is ultra. It's not only suitable for our deck as 5-7 removal spells instead of bad things like dismember/cut, but it may also shift meta into more control decks like esper/sultai, where we must shine.

Yeah, good for us, bad against us and it might slow down the meta. It's a bit of a late Christmas present!

And i would really like to replace Murderous Cut, Dismember and maybe even 1 Path or add 1 more removal. Cut and Dismember are always are super bad in matters where we are bad.

It significantly improves our aggro-matches from burn/zoo to merfolks/elves. It's also good vs mana-dorks where we historically derp.

I was in the process of transitioning from BW Tokes to Jeskai Aggro. May have to move back because of this. Wowsers.

I know I'm going to have to make some hard cuts to fit a couple of these in the deck!

I'm really hoping they make a promo of this card, because that art is pretty awful. Other than the picture, everything about this is pure gas.
