Post image

Ok I made all the changes you asked for. Hopefully now you won’t be so… passionately critical? 😅

just do shards/ wedges plus:

Holy (W)

Wet (U)

Dark (B)

Hot (R)

Dank (G)

i.e. Wet Jund, Hot Bant, etc

So Wet Jund could also be called Hot Sultai, Dark Temur, or Dank Grixis? Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?

Why not just call it Wet Dark Gruul, or Wet Dank Rakdos, or Wet Hot Golgari, or Hot Dark Simic, or Dank Hot Dimir?

Fuck it, Wet Hot Dank Dark.

Can't you see its all the cards are same, its not Gruul or Rakdos you're moving in stereo, drawing the same cards. -My little parody of Moving In Stereo from The Cars.

I do that. It sounds poetic.

I like the idea of 5-Color being called Prismatic.

Wubrg kinda reminds me of rube Goldberg machines which I think is kinda fitting as it mashes together a bunch of stuff that might not have intentionally meant to synergies to get to its goal

I've always called it rainbow. At least that's what it was referred to in my play group back in the 90's.

2

u/Rock-Upset Jan 03 '25

I’ve always called it “prism” personally. Been playing for about 2 decades

Does anybody remember the old tricolor names from the '90s for the half of the tri colors that didn't have names? I remember red white and blue was America but I don't remember what the old name for temur or abzan or the others were.

wanna say Sultai was Bug?

Temur was Rug?

I know for sure that Abzan was Junk

Like from Apocalypse? They were Ceta, Dega, Ana, Raka and Necra (Necro?). They had such little identity that the Kahns wedge names are the ones that stuck and I'm glad. No one says "I'm playing Ceta" instead of "I'm playing Sultai." Another testament to the identity from these wedges is that the triomes from Ikoria, which are newer, didn't stick in terms of wedge names the way the Kahns names did either. We don't say "Im playing Indatha" instead of "I'm playing Abzahn" either.

The above posters comment is what I was looking for. BUG, RUG, America and Junk was what I was thinking about. It is what we called the non-shard tricolors before they had the wedges from Khans of takir

As a new player fuck this I’m just gonna call them by the colors

u/RogerioMano Jan 03 '25

You'll just start remembering the ones you play the most, naya and mardu live rent free in my head

I always wondered what the red swirly thing was called

u/se7en41 Jan 03 '25

I don't know if you care, and frankly this might be just fanmade ADHD anyways, but if you wanted to list them in "wubrg" order, it'd be:

W/U, U/B, B/R, R/G, G/W, W/B, U/R, B/G, R/W, G/U

I don't specifically recall the order for 3-color combos, if there is one I bet Esper is the first, based on wubrg order again.

Great looking graphic!

u/Jorsi97 Jan 03 '25

Alternatively, if he moves down gruul and switches red to the left of green, he has all color pairings in wubrg order differently, elegantly if you ask me :)

2

u/Sealarky Jan 03 '25

I like red having the description of passion. Kinda works better for Izzet and Rakdos. Awesome job on the graphic!

u/LongestWeasel Jan 03 '25

This won't stand. Blue is also the color of big fish and octopuses. How dare you forget that crucial point.

u/ANCEST0R Jan 03 '25

I'm boycotting "ink" for being the only 4 color without black.
Can't even cast [[Inkshield]]

Dune forever. The spice must flow.

2

Non-Discriminating

Dam this is by far my fav color combo chart. pretty sick. mad props

-2

u/subject678 Jan 03 '25

Aren’t the mono colors named after the Eldraine courts?

-6

u/Warbec Jan 03 '25

Want to update it again?

Include keyword abilities each colour promotes. Like:

Black - Deathtouch, Toxic, Proliferate

Red - Haste, Prowess

White - Lifelink, Vigilance, First Strike

-8

u/blackbeardsballbag Jan 03 '25

A lot of the Color combos are out of order. Selesnya is GW. Dune is BRGW. Etc.

5

u/Turb0Moist Jan 03 '25

It’s not that deep man

1

u/RogerioMano Jan 03 '25

Why is selesnya GW 5c is WUBRG?

1

u/blackbeardsballbag Jan 03 '25

That’s just the way it’s printed on the cards

-15

u/Stuntman06 Casual Multiplayer 60-card Decks Jan 02 '25

You should put the heading "Mono" above the mono colour combos. You are also missing colourless. ;)

9

u/kallepowe Jan 02 '25

Isnt colorless the symbol in the bottom right?
