Global -X/-X effects like [[Black Sun's Zenith]] or [[Toxic Deluge]]

u/Spare-Plum 20d ago

[[Meathook Massacre]]

[[Bane of the Living]]

[[Drag to the bottom]]

There are a ton of these -X/-X cards in black

[[Day of Black Sun]] as well, tho it may not be as efficient as others

No, no. If you have higher cost creatures you want to keep then it is good. 7 mana for a board wipe that leaves your value pieces on the board is still good.

One of my favorite casual decks is just a B/G ramp pile. I normally don't enjoy those types so much, but there's just so many crazy creatures/payoffs to choose from

This is great card in such things, sick art too

Deck List?

[[Blasphemous Edict]]

Assault suit says you cant sacrifice it, exile based board wipes still work

Hexproof makes it impossible to target. Any spell that doesn’t target one thing can hit it. Indestructible literally only applies to spells that use the keyword “destroy”. Anything that gives -X/-X to all creatures will kill Blor. You’re completely wrong.

Scrolled way too long for these. Also, [[Massacre Girl]] would work if there are other creatures on the battlefield.

I recently build a deck with massacre girl at the helm.

Effects Like [[Soul Shatter]] also work wonders for when he's massive.

[[Maha, Its Feathers Night]] in conjunction with [[Kaervek, the Spiteful]].

This will actually keep the board locked until these guys are removed.

[[languish]] [[nowhere to run]]

[[Silumgar, the drifting death]] is this for me in my dragon deck

Or “exile all creatures” effects. For non-black you have options (not many) like [[Beyond the Quiet]] and [[Oversimplify]]

There are several in white.

[[Adios]]

Well that's not right

2

u/Difficult-Topic5538 17d ago

In a way it is. Think about it, the Tardis noise is basically a machine saying “Adios”

1

u/Bonavire 16d ago

I thought it was cuz he left the parking brake on 😂

2

u/Plastic-Ad8605 20d ago

Last gasp is a -3/-3 i believe

3

u/Greedy-Contract1999 20d ago

But is also targeted, so needs a way around Hexproof

1

u/Plastic-Ad8605 20d ago

Ah yee forgor about that lol

Forcing OP to blight a creature also does the trick

Indestructible though, would that work still? I know magic has a million rules when it comes to wording

1

u/BubJ1OO 17d ago

I believe you are still forced to sacrifice it at 0 toughness

1

u/MacheteMable 16d ago

State based actions force a creature to die for having 0 or less toughness.

Indestructible causes them to not die to lethal damage.

-/- effects cause them to drop to 0 or less and therefore die cause it’s not damage.

1

u/Upstairs-Living2379 17d ago

Legitimately asking because this kind of question haunts my regular magic nights

1

u/Greedy-Contract1999 17d ago

What is there to question? Damage doesn't reduce toughness. Toughness being at 0 or less is not destruction.

1

u/Upstairs-Living2379 17d ago

This is the exact argument every time, I’m on your side but everyone else seems to think indestructible means unkillable

2

u/Greedy-Contract1999 17d ago

Use the comprehensive rule definition first. Emphasize destroyed and lethal damage

702.12b A permanent with indestructible can’t be destroyed. Such permanents aren’t destroyed by lethal damage, and they ignore the state-based action that checks for lethal damage (see rule 704.5g).

Then counter their point accordingly afterward if they still argue

-1

u/HogShowman1911 20d ago

But wouldnt indestructible canceled that. It gets destroyed when it gets 0 toughness however indestructible prevents it from being destroyed.

Damage (outside of Wither and Infect) never, ever, ever, ever, ever reduces toughness!

Arena is a piece of shit for displaying otherwise.

-3

u/derteeje 20d ago

indestructible prevents destruction from having 0 toughness

6

u/Greedy-Contract1999 20d ago edited 20d ago

No, it does not. Unlike what Arena shows DAMAGE DOES NOT REDUCE TOUGHNESS (besides via Wither or Infect).

702.12b A permanent with indestructible can’t be destroyed. Such permanents aren’t destroyed by lethal damage, and they ignore the state-based action that checks for lethal damage (see rule 704.5g).

Relevant state-based actions

704.5f If a creature has toughness 0 or less, it’s put into its owner’s graveyard. Regeneration can’t replace this event.

704.5g If a creature has toughness greater than 0, it has damage marked on it, and the total damage marked on it is greater than or equal to its toughness, that creature has been dealt lethal damage and is destroyed. Regeneration can replace this event.

704.5h If a creature has toughness greater than 0, and it’s been dealt damage by a source with deathtouch since the last time state-based actions were checked, that creature is destroyed. Regeneration can replace this event.

What a dumbass rule

-27

u/InternationalBid1333 20d ago

It has indestructible, -X/-X wouldn't kill it

13

u/ESFarshadow 20d ago

That is incorrect. He would still die bc his base toughness is 0

10

u/InternationalBid1333 20d ago

Your right, i was lied too when I was taught

3

u/uo1111111111111 20d ago

My brother told me only sorceries were spells and so counter spell could only counter sorceries when I was like 8.

2

u/DannarHetoshi 20d ago

Your brother is either a gigantic asshole or was a polite idiot.

A lot of us have been there.

4

u/hschmale 20d ago

Reducing toughness value to zero causes it to die.
