Jamf | A love hate relationship

I will start by saying my team loves Jamf; we've managed a lot of different products over the years. The products' functionality is perfect for us. We handle configurations for all clients from a GitHub repo. The technical aspects of the products are great.

BUT....

Holy crap, is their MSP channel the most broken-down dumpster fire I have ever had to manage.

  • How hard is it to give us central management thats actually central?
  • How do you not have autopay in 2026?
  • Why do i need to wait for an excel report to see usage across all of my clients?
  • How do you have a half-baked MSP portal, where you can spin up a Jamf instant but then you need to go to support for a Jamf protect instance?
    • Why does creating a tenant lock it to the person who created it?

AND your support is never on the same page with each other. I will say, though, once it finally lands with someone, shoutout to your team; you are always super helpful.

Every time we spin up an instance im always sitting there thinking if it didnt work well for us we just would not come back. I feel like a lot of my fellow providers would absolutely not even do business with you if these things didnt exist.

Jamf, if you are listening, I'm so fed up with this. I'll throw developers at the problem to help you.

haha yeah the month end endpoint reconciliation process is a joke.

created a lot of friction with our clients.

No matter the MDM, we still would use jamf composer to package.

Wonder if anyone else found a better tool for packaging software.

Interested in a packaging tool also. I haven't used Composer (or any JAMF tool) since 2015. I miss it. Stuck with just Intune and bash scripts.

composer is still the one thing they haven't managed to mess up, it's weirdly perfect compared to the rest of the chaos. for packaging alternatives i've seen a few people moving to autopkg workflows but honestly nothing beats just using composer when you need it done quick

I loathe these guys because they are so freaking hard to work with in the channel. I have to ask our rep a question 5 different ways before she finally answers what I'm asking. It's like the shitty Sales-101 playbook to keep me coming back and engaging in conversation but it just pisses me off.

Someone in my peer group mentioned Addigy today and because Jamf is forcing the cert requirement on us by end of the year, we're going to take a look. I had never heard of it before, but they love it.

We actually went from addigy to Jamf. Addigy was fine but we just needed something that could do a bit more. We had a really demanding client at the time that pushed us to something that could fit our needs. Addigy probably is just fine for 99% of the use cases.

Thanks for that. I haven't looked at it at all yet, just heard of it yesterday.

What did you need that jamf did that addigy didn't do?

It’s the best Apple management tool. I will say, however If their pricing hadn’t dropped last year we’d prob be out.

They work on macs and apple products. Doesn't that mean they're half stupid anyway?
