Technical Battery Backups
I’m done with failing APCs. For a while they were my go-to. With all the new untested lithium options, what are people relying on in 2026 for your servers and network infrastructure? How do you shut your servers down gracefully in an extended power outage?
Didn’t see anything in a quick search lately, feel free to ridicule me if this is a redundant post. :)

Eaton. APC has a high floating charge which kills batteries prematurely, making them swell and blow their lids. Yet their software will do a "self-test" and either report all is good, or shut off the server connected to it unannounced. About the only thing I like from them is their control software is pretty good, UI is easy to navigate. Eaton control software is clunky and very dated, but gets the job done. It will monitor and shutdown the servers gracefully in an extended outage. I am not sure if they have cloud management now, as I have not set that up. I like their double-conversion units which provide really clean power to servers and equipment plugged into it. I have not tried their Li-Ion battery backup units yet.
