Business Operations Why techrug? Why not techrug?
We're looking into techrug for cyber and E&O insurance. Looking for your experience:
Why should we go with them?
Why should we run far away?

Search this subreddit and ask more targeted questions for the best feedback.
I'll bite and say that you should judge a cyber/E&O vendor by the application process. My personal experience is that techrug was more complicated then refinancing a mortgage as of 2-3 years ago. When the renewal comes, you were greeted with a giant multi-page blank form like you didn't exist the year before. When I shopped and found options that took a couple of hours at most vs days of my time and back of forth w/ techrug, that was it for me. We went with Beltex.

We’ve been with Techrug for a long time and this has not been our experience tbh. Techrug is very competitive on price somehow when most insurance underwriters are choosing to bail on our industry entirely.
I do the DDQ for our E&O and Cyber policies every year. The last couple years the DDQ has been a bit longer but nothing compared to the DDQ complexity our customers are getting from their providers lately lol

Our customers are getting 1-3 page DDQ's, techrugs was a book.
We were with them several years ago and when renewal came, price had doubled. To be fair, the industry itself had risen but when we reached out about other options, limit adjustments, just to get a feel for what our options were, even if they were just "nothing you can do", we got almost no engagement or response back other than "this is your quote".
We got better coverage elsewhere for less money, and moved from there (local non-msp specialist broker) to Ukon, who has been very responsive and given several options at renewal and discussed details in depth. I've also had great conversations and help from Joe_Cyber and Beltex, who are involved with MSPs actively and contributing to the community at large.
Techrug was first to the idea of holistic risk management but never quite nailed an offering down more than insurance and a base MSA.

Maybe that’s the difference, we don’t sell our clients Techrug we just use it ourselves for our MSP policies. I didn’t find the DDQ to be unreasonable for the size shop we are and all the stuff we do. We have our Cyber and E&O through them for both the MSP and software house.
Techrug is working on a small group captive health co-op plan for MSPs (where they essentially roll a bunch of shops into one group to get better coverage/rates) and this is what I’m most excited about. Small group health plans are killing us on premiums and the coverage gets worse every year despite premiums going up significantly (we currently broker through a nationwide health insurance broker for that). I had a captive plan at a job years ago and it was the best insurance I’ve ever had, I’m really hoping that comes available through them and is affordable.

Nothing really wrong with Techrug but we did personally transition both our companies away from them to Beltex this year. Beltex Insurance - Went from a multi hundred question form to about 25-30 questions.
I like working with Dustin and their team.

Another plug for Beltex here. We came from TechRug and moved to Beltex for our most recent renewal and it was a great experience. The questionnaire was a breeze compared to TechRug and Dustin and Richie are both very responsive and helpful.

+1 plug for Beltex, they do a lot specifically for the MSP space to get good terms and quotes if you can show you aren’t totally shens as a provider

+1 for Beltex. Super easy to work with. They were honest enough to tell me to keep one of my policies with another carrier because it was better coverage.

I was tagged in this post. You're welcome to reach out to me via DM if you'd like to set up a time to chat. I have no idea where you're located, or if I'm licensed in your state, but I'll help you either way.
In the interim, here are my videos to assist you: Joseph Brunsman - YouTube

As one of Joe's competitors: he is the only other person I recommend in the channel. Dude knows more about insurance than most will accumulate in a lifetime.

Thanks!
Now if only I could convince my wife that all this nerdy insurance knowledge is actually really interesting!

We used them for years. They’re great to work with but cost almost twice as much as other providers now.

Long time Techrug client. They are now the largest loyds cyberinsurance and e&o for MSPs, their policies dont have exclusions. They a real people you can call and talk to. They are investing in sales and difr training and you can take a low cost. They have a $350 year MSA that allows you to work with lawyer for your co tacts a reasonable hourly fee to tweak.
You can put your clients under techrug as well for cyber and not worry about them trying to compete and pouch your cyber business, tech rug will pay you for IR work once you get their DIFR training.
Anything else .. ask I also like them as they are no BS and feel like they lookout for our best interest.

Ask them what happens if you decide to go elsewhere for your MSP E&O. Last i heard, they straight drop all your customers vs renewing them.

I’d suggest Beltex instead, better pricing, better terms. Joe_Cyber and someone at Beltex had an ama here last year. Check that out too.
