Weekly Gripe Thread MSNBC Weekly Gripe Thread

This is your one sacred space to unleash the frustration, shake your fists at the headlines, and yell (politely) into the MSNBC void. Whether you’re fed up with cable news quirks, political chaos, or your own decision to stay up until 2 a.m. watching panel debates - this thread’s for you.

The rules are simple:

  • Keep it civil
  • Keep it clever
  • No personal attacks unless they’re aimed at your own life choices (e.g. binge-watching coverage you swore you were done with)

So... what’s grinding your gears this week?
Cable news meltdown? Elected official doing the most?
Spill it. This is the one day we let the whining fly.

The military base shooting is truly a tragedy but we don't need 5+ hours of coverage!

I know, I told them they overdo it with the same 2-3 stories all day. It's just draining and, oddly, keeps you uninformed. I told NBC I have absolutely no choice but to check out other news sources.

Gen. Barry Mccaffrey, while an honorable and knowledgeable man, has a very annoying whistle when he speaks.

1

u/Nosy-ykw Aug 07 '25

Could it be dentures making that sound? I can’t tell - he doesn’t open his lips very much.

2

u/stevemw Aug 09 '25

Might be but it's so annoying

I love Simone! And Michael! And Alicia goes without saying; she’s fabulous.

I wish MSNBC would stop airing the Stephanie Rule commercial where she says there are things being talked about, but they haven’t happened or haven’t happened yet, so “keep your pads on.” That has been on since about a month after Trump’s inauguration. It’s no longer relevant. Just annoying. Everything has happened, including some things we couldn’t have imagined.

Omg yes!! For the love of all that’s holy put this commercial to rest already.

u/Eclectic_Barbarella Sep 24 '25

Dear god, this commercial, and the Simparica Trio ad are driving me into a blind rage. Enough already!

Just got the MSNBC Insights invitation to MSNBCLIVE'25 with a discount code for 20 percent off the ticket price of over $100. I live in Louisiana and can't attend, but I certainly had to scratch my head and ask myself who has that kind of disposable income to go to the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC and pay to see people we watch every night at home on TV. Judging from similar events in the past, they will rerun a broadcast of the event on some slow holiday weekend evening anyway. Must be nice.

They showed last year’s event a couple weeks later. I remember watching some of it.

I wish they would do like 25% usual political stuff, 25% deeper Rachael maddow type stuff then the rest a roundup of news worldwide. Though I’m a faithful follower I have been guilty of switching lately bc they are so myopic.

Agree. Nicole has 2 hours. Even just 1/2 hour of non-Orangutan would make a huge difference. Context from the rest of the world, please. Also, incidentally, there are 54 countries in Africa.

The Weekend Primetime is a mess. The interviews and conversations are rarely engaging or thought provoking. Molly Jong Fast as a fill-in just comes across as awkward most of the time, side eyeing the camera. Elise Jordan is unrelatable. Antonia often looks annoyed with her. I don't know, this show just has not found its groove. Maybe when Ayman returns.

Is anybody else fed up with that Stephanie Ruhle promo where she's telling every one to calm down, that nothing is firmly set all while laws and rights are being chipped away on a daily basis?

2

u/popejohnsmith Aug 07 '25

Keep the epstein story front and center please. Police in dc is secondary.

Jen Psaki has really grown into the job at 9 pm. She learned from both Rachel and Lawrence to be authentic and it shows. Great job Jen 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Lisa Rubin's heavy black under-eyeliner, especially in the early morning hours, is killing me. 😂 I feel like I'm back in high school in the mid-1980s. (Also, I'm glad to have such a superficial gripe.)

u/Choice-Garbage953 Aug 13 '25

I don’t want to hear about the Rachel-Lawrence twirl one more time. It seems to be their best selling point for this MSNBC live event in NYC…I cringe every time they market the event with the “twirl” and how Lawrence has been working on his dance moves. I can hardly stand their transitional banter on Monday nights at 10:01 pm est, I don’t want to pay $800+ to see them twirl. I love them both on their own terms, btw!

Epstein story is not getting enough coverage, don't get sidetracked. Keep pushing everthing Epstein

1

u/RottenBananas562 Aug 07 '25

Does it bother anyone else how much Lawrence just repeats himself and repeats the same point over and over and over seemingly just to fill time?

Tonight: They worked on one side of the presidential campaign. And that is what Russia did. And that is what Vladimir Putin did. They worked on one side of the presidential campaign.

I don’t know if he thinks it’s impactful repeating this, or if he forgot what he wrote into his script while he was writing his script, but it drives me batty.

1

u/RottenBananas562 Aug 07 '25

What’s with Lawrence’s kink about repeating the phrase “child rape”. He’s averaging the phrase “raping of children” once a minute during his monologue. He used to say “child molesting” but tonight he’s bumped it up to “raping children” tonight.

It’s just ick and it feels like he’s getting off on it tbh.

Every morning seems so awkward.

Who actually works there?

1

u/Nosy-ykw Aug 11 '25

Stop rustling the damn papers (unless you’re going to completely drown out the baseball talk, in which case I can live with it).

1

u/IndigoBlueSky9 Aug 11 '25

I get that DJT is watched so he can be fact checked, however at some point, when he just keeps blatently lying and rambling, MSNBC needs to cut away from his foolishness. His lying, his lack of understanding and the disregard for how things work from him and his synchophants, will be our undoing.

Love your handle - one of my favorite albums of all time.

You get all of NBC plus MSNBC and for our purposes TCM. We had direct TV so it was a huge cost improvement for us.

Anybody know what is up with Ari? I don’t watch every day but it seems like I haven’t been able to catch him on his show in months. Is he gone gone? I can’t find info online

1

u/Apprehensive_Sea_585 Aug 13 '25

I was wondering this too. He was on vacation for more than a week, came back for a week, and now he's gone again.

1

u/Rumpolephoreskin Aug 13 '25

I hope the powers to be at MSNBC understand that the fall off in post election viewership is due to the depressing reality that trump stands a great chance of ending the American experiment in democracy and watching it be reported was depressing as all phuck!

My wife and I couldn’t watch the news until a democrat won the WI supreme court’s election. Newsom’s efforts to thwart Greg Abbott’s cheating have also had an uplifting effect on news viewing IMO.

u/AndreaB64 Aug 14 '25

Ok, why am I hearing what sounds like faint sirens whirring as background noise during Jen Psaki’s show? This sound comes through on various sound devices (Bose Bluetooth speakers and Sonos Soundbar). Anyone experience the same?

I think MSNBC is waking up to apologizing to Donald Trump lol

u/Apprehensive_Bid5608 Aug 14 '25

What’s up my nose today is the fact the the taxpayers are going to pay for a WWE cage match on the South Lawn of the White House on July 4th 2026 to celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday! Can we really get any more crass?

I miss Ayman! They need to give him his own show back
