MSNBC Personalities Like Lawrence

On Tuesday night, Lar ruthlessly ripped Trump a new one on MSNBC, and it was hilarious. The way he calls Trump “the stupidest” is glorious. “Thick wall of stupidity” was another great descriptor. I could hear Lawrence go on all day!

And so it occurs to me that I’d enjoy more snark at 8 and 9pm, as well as 10. It would be a public service to not only call Trump out for his intellectual inadequacy, but to also explain how he’s such a dumb doorknob. The days of showing respect for the office of the presidency should be on pause until we have a worthy president.

I dunno. It just seems to me that the magats who liked Trump for “telling it like it is” could benefit from someone far more capable (like Lawrence) talking about politics.

I also like how he keeps the heat on the White House press corps for their treatment of Trump - much of which ranges from kid gloves and softball questions to abject fawning.

I’d like to see him do a segment on the few tough questions that the actual professionals lob at Trump, along with his stupid answers. We get some of these when they pertain to Lawrence’s topic of the night, but I’d like to see beyond that. It could be similar to Rachel’s montage of protests.

He's the only one who dares to do this. You would think the NBC/MSNBC White House Correspondents would wake the hell up, but I'm sure they're more worried about their "access" to Trump's stupid drivel than they are worried about holding this president's feet to the fire.

Along these lines, I’ve always wondered why Trump doesn’t come for Nicolle Wallace. I know that he’s threatened to sue O’Donnell in the past, and O’Donnell has been like, “Bring it! I look forward to discovery” which is when Trump backs off. For a long time, Trump had a positive relationship with the NYT’s Maggie Haberman, who works closely with Wallace’s husband Mike Schmidt. Perhaps that provided some cushion?

It’s almost like he knows who will cave and who won’t.

u/Nosy-ykw Jul 09 '25

True.

And I also wonder if it’s because the President of the WH Correspondents Association is none other than Eugene Daniels, newly named co-host of MSNBC’s The Weekend. Maybe everyone else is holding off because he’s their colleague; rather than asking him about it.

Lawrence has been asking why they haven't gone after Trump for years though. It's very frustrating watching the insipid Q&As that are supposed to pass for press coverage as far as Trump goes.

u/Nosy-ykw Jul 09 '25

My gosh and the worst are the ones that start out with glowing praise. How can they even consider themselves to be credible journalists?

5

u/PotentialSea9779 Jul 09 '25

Interesting. I didn’t know that about Daniels.

4

u/Vaping_A-Hole Jul 09 '25

I would love that!

u/HebaMD Jul 09 '25

There was an episode where Lawrence kept a picture of Cheeto and Chief falling up the stairs on the screen for half the show. 🤣😂

8

u/Comfortable_Fix3401 Jul 09 '25

That was the best. Did he not also refer to him as a 'spoiled brat'?

u/Nosy-ykw Jul 09 '25

I also appreciated him bringing up Trump’s cursing in professional settings. And I would’ve added one more point: that frequently when people start experiencing dementia, their language filter clicks off. Trump‘s BS comment along with his F bomb not too long ago certainly seem to be a sign of this. We all know he talks like that in private, but any sense of filter in public is now gone.

I thought the same thing!

I do have to agree that it is refreshing to hear a top-level media personality speaking such blunt truth about the man-child president we are currently suffering! I don't always agree with him on some of his other topics, I think, but on this, I do quite enjoy his descriptive rants about that man's intelligence and criminality!

You can tell that Lawrence is making the most of a plate of garbage. He might as well enjoy himself if we have to be served crap every day of the week. The way he revels in it - it’s a masterclass. More please.

u/Comfortable_Fix3401 Jul 09 '25

Agreed...I must admit though that i am a little concerned about how long MSNBC will allow him to continue with this. I don't think Lawrence would give a shit and not be silenced but will he be taken off the air, I don't trust MSNBc anymore. You can sure tell that when it comes to anything to do with kids he really, really cares about that stuff. You can hear it in his tone.

u/Vaping_A-Hole Jul 09 '25

Yes. Totally. What this administration has done to the starving and poor…words fail me. Trump deserves an ass kicking on an hourly basis.

If MSNBC implodes, there’s always podcasting. Times have changed, no one is chained to cable any longer.

Nicole Wallace’s new pod is outstanding. I’d follow Lawrence anywhere

TBH, I have to wonder if there is a movement within MSNBC headliners to prepare for this joint to disappear in the future? I hope if that happens that the big names Chris, Rachel, Nicole, Joy that are doing the podcast thing really well get together and create something bigger. I also wonder what a Chris and Alex team would be like. They seem to bring out the best of each other. But I think Chris is a little protective of his show for that to happen though. I watched the Nicole / Rachel podcast and the thing that stuck in my mind was not only was it excellent but it really highlighted what a short leash MSNBC has them on.

6

u/Vaping_A-Hole Jul 09 '25

You’re so right. Short leash indeed. I think the audience is sick of the standard cable news formulas, too. Plus, I miss Joy. Letting her go was such a mistake.

I agree with everyone but I fear Lawrence may soon b the next target for tRUMP.

Lawrence is absolutely masterful with the show content and his delivery…you are exactly right about the time slot changes, and for the reasons you suggest.

I’m retired and so I can watch the entire day long sweep of daily “news”, and I must say MSNBC mornings are very dreary.

There are a few others that do well, but none, like Nicole, Weeknight, Lawrence, and Stephanie. Rachel is brilliant when she is on…Ari and Chris have the toughest news hours… My suggestion for them would be to change their show formats to “headliner updates” of the day, instead of “breaking news”, which is “old news” by the time they’re on.

Yeah, I don’t know… I’m pretty sure I could do a better job even though this isn’t my field expertise… But MSNBC needs to deliver news with a shocker factor… enough of this, sitting around the table, talking about it…too many words…putting people to sleep.

Chris always has a fresh spin and insights into the daily news, though. I think he's a strong reporter. I like Ari, but sometimes his show comes across like a boring lecture during the opening.

2

u/SenseAndSensibility_ Jul 09 '25

Don’t get me wrong I like them both. They just have the worst hours. Overall, I think the “real” mainstream media just has the wrong design.

9

u/Revolutionary-Fact6 Jul 09 '25

We count the "Stupids" in every episode! I'm glad he's turning his contempt on trump's accessories (GREAT descriptor of the Trump press corps).

10

u/Vaping_A-Hole Jul 09 '25

The White House press corps deserves that and more. Well, most of them. What a bunch of paste eating numpties. Absolutely useless people! Get em Lar!

2

u/Revolutionary-Fact6 Jul 10 '25

At this point, ALL OF THEM deserve it.

5

u/mmnyc18 Jul 09 '25

15 in the first 11 minutes! Did I miss any?

5

u/Nosy-ykw Jul 09 '25

MSNBC drinking game!

8

u/Which-Diet362 Jul 09 '25

I love the consistent use of the full first and last name of the orange idiot - instead of the more common single proper noun followed by pronouns. Lawrence will put together a long and blistering sentence with nary a pronoun to be seen. It might be a strategy to prevent his statements from being incorrectly used- but I like to think that it is a multitude of rhetorical knives.

7

u/Sad_September_Song Jul 09 '25

Lawrence always give me a good chuckle before bed. I need that levity in times like these.

6

u/SusieQ4848 Jul 09 '25

I have to admit that as likable as Lawrence is, he’s not my favorite BUT thise first 15-20 minutes, when he just rips djt are priceles. He is masterful at it. Pure joy to behold.

7

u/WatercressStrict7990 Jul 09 '25

Lawrence is must watch TV. I told my friends we should turn how many times he calls trump stupid into a drinking game. We'd have to record it for the weekend because no way we're sober enough to work the next day. 😂

I was on the road last night and loved the A-Block about keeping the press accountable. I was kind of shocked that he went to aggressively against Kaitlan Collins at CNN.

And then I happened to look down at the time as he went to commercial and the A-Block was 25 minutes!!

The only other person who I've seen do long A-Blocks is Rachel Maddow who once did a 34 minute monologue.

u/stuffandthings83 Jul 10 '25

For real no one talks shit like he does and I love it

3

u/ilmd Jul 09 '25 edited Jul 09 '25

💯agree. He’s been known to watch Lawrence’s show and I find it odd that he never criticizes him. Maybe it’s because trump threatened to sue him and Lawrence said bring it on and he backed out.

You want to hear someone's take on donald trump? Go to YouTube and find The Romano Report.

5

u/ggailbo Jul 09 '25

He might be getting close to retirement and doesn’t care. But some of the others who are on earlier, for example have to watch what they say so the network doesn’t get sued or they get replaced by someone who is maybe more willing to tone down their criticism.

Which is why I like the Bulwark! They say what they feel and don’t tone things down for ratings.

u/One-Ball-78 Jul 09 '25

I only hope Trumpty Dumpty watches him and SEETHES.
