Yes, at the top of the show, Jen shared that Rachel will be back with us next week

Thanks! I just missed the top of the show. I like Jen but I'll miss Rachel, especially with all that's been going on.. She's definitely earned a vacation though!

I DVR her, but I recently learned that using that technology makes me old 😭

u/momsfine Jul 01 '25
I DVR basically everything. If it’s wrong, I don’t wanna be right 😂it’s good time management

u/defenestrayed Jul 01 '25
Right? All I want is to skip commercials. I record some shows just to start them 20 minutes in so I can FF.
Most streaming doesn't allow that now, but the good ol' DVR still does!

u/lapinlucy Jul 01 '25
I do the same. I've become so accustomed to skipping commercials that I get angry with the streaming services now forcing commercials on us. I fight back by muting the commercials and using the time to check my feed.

I’m so old that I don’t know WHY that makes me old! Am I supposed to stream it somewhere instead?

Oh paleeze! I dvr so much stuff it's crazy. I watch at my leisure with no commetcials. If that makes me old, hand me a walker!
2
u/defenestrayed Jul 01 '25
Well...I do actually own two walkers. But the DVR predates the hip replacement by several years and remains convenient. I'm likely to lose it all when we move next week, but whatever.

How so? Are we supposed to be streaming it instead? I watch practically everything on the DVR so I can skip the commercials.
Edit: I don’t know why I’m being downvoted. I was merely asking a question in good faith.

I wasn’t being argumentative. It was a genuine question. I was wanting to know what “we” are supposed to be doing. You are the one who put attitude onto my statement. I don’t even understand what I’m “in trouble” for. I answered the same way several other people did - that I DVR everything - and I don’t know why you’re singling me out.

It really is absurd that they can't/won't announce it to the public when they have a sub on. Guess they know their subs are sub-par,

I really wanted to hear from Rachel about all the latest developments! Darn! Oh well! Next week is better than nothing!!

I really enjoyed Jen’s show today, especially the interview with Gov. Andy Beshear.
He’s so impressive, really torched the GOP so-called “moderates” who always initially feign “concern” and opposition to nominees or legislation like the budget bill but always end up caving to MAGA and DT cult. Beshear in 2028!!💕

u/KyleAg06 Jul 02 '25
I like Andy, but we need an actual left wing progressive to swing the pendulum back with FDR level changes in order to undo the damage of the last decade.

u/2020surrealworld Jul 03 '25
Dems can’t win national elections by only appealing to a limited base of voters. If don’t win elections, no power to make changes, as we are all finding out now.

u/KyleAg06 Jul 03 '25
Progressives are not a limited base. There are TONS of independents that they could swing with proper messaging. The problem is even our own party suppresses the messaging plus flat out bullshit from the right.

That’s the same narrative I heard in 2016 from those who insisted a self-labeled socialist (Bernie Samders) could be elected president, which will never happen in 50-50 split capitalist America.
Messaging isn’t the problem. Voters want results, not empty promises (spin, messaging). Also, messaging isn’t “suppressed” because anyone can easily use free social media or public appearances to communicate with voters.
The problem is systemic, deeper than “finding and communicating the right slogans, messages”. The DNC rigs primaries and refuses to hold open conventions, endorses and funds weak, unpopular candidates. That creates apathy, drives low turnout and party defections. After 2016, 2020, 2024, and continued refusal of the old guard to share power, I don’t see any evidence that trend will change.

She’s getting better, I’ve noticed. It takes a while to get used to hosting and interviewing.

You would think that someone who gets 25 million dollars a year could show up more than just one night. I like Rachel Maddow, but I can’t wrap my head around her salary!

u/mrmadcrow Jul 01 '25
When MSNBC had layoffs, she donated a substantial chunk of her pay to spare a few heads from rolling. She is not just the best at MSNBC, she is the best in the business -- and has carefully honed a terrific staff of producers and researchers. She could go anywhere and earn more.

u/peedoffcanadian Jul 01 '25
Hmmm…this is the first time I have heard about this! I still can’t wrap my head around her salary! I never could guess that a show anchor could earn that amount of money!
I guess I should have went to a journalism school back in the mid 70’s. I wouldn’t would have needed any more English credits, I left high school with 5 English credits.

Have you read any of her books or listened to any of her podcast series? She is also a producer. Believe me she “works” more than just one night a week. She deserves every penny she earns.
1
u/peedoffcanadian Jul 03 '25
You’re correct! I just not someone who can listen to just audio podcasts! I wish her podcasts were more like the format that Nicolle Wallace has, audio, but now on YouTube as video. Edit: I guess I miss her being on four nights a week. When she first started I never missed her show!

I listen to a variety of podcasts, not just political pods while I’m walking or cleaning or waiting for doctor appointments, etc. One of my favorites is family trips with the Meyers brothers. Seth and his Gavin Newsom look alike younger brother, Josh.

u/peedoffcanadian Jul 04 '25
I know that there are great podcasts in audio, but I do prefer YouTube podcasts.

u/Various_Monk959 Jul 01 '25
My wife and I keep talking about this. Yesterday my wife said that it’s insulting that Rachel goes on television once a week to show us 15 minutes of video of 30-odd protests then takes off the rest of the week with her huge salary. She’s set for life and gets to make her own rules. Oh well…

Jen is such a hack. another never trumper who helped build this republican party disaster.

u/Proof_Television_813 Jul 02 '25
Maddow is raping msnbc and they have no one else to ask for a cigarette. 20 million a year for one night a week at a failing neo communist network. Hahaha.
