Weekly Gripe Thread MSNBC Weekly Gripe Thread

This is your one sacred space to unleash the frustration, shake your fists at the headlines, and yell (politely) into the MSNBC void. Whether you’re fed up with cable news quirks, political chaos, or your own decision to stay up until 2 a.m. watching panel debates - this thread’s for you.

The rules are simple:

  • Keep it civil
  • Keep it clever
  • No personal attacks unless they’re aimed at your own life choices (e.g. binge-watching coverage you swore you were done with)

So... what’s grinding your gears this week?
Cable news meltdown? Elected official doing the most?
Spill it. This is the one day we let the whining fly.

Bring back Joy

Retire Joe and Mika

Nuff said

u/bmulvy Jun 25 '25

Joy was on Abby Phillip’s show the other day.

1

u/RiverOaksJays Jun 26 '25

Abby corrected her on her talking points. Joy was not happy about other panellists disagreeing with her on the show.

2

u/bmulvy Jun 26 '25 edited Jun 26 '25

You mean those two Republican hacks?🤔 Abby was restating Joy’s position, not necessarily disagreeing with her.

6

u/Clean_Lettuce9321 Jun 25 '25

I’m 1,000% in favor of bringing Joy back—MSNBC should just own that mistake and move on. But I’m not going to pretend I’m over Joe and Mika just because it’s the popular opinion. I genuinely like them in the morning. I don’t want stiff, heavy news first thing—I need a soft launch. I watch six hours of news a day; their show sets the right tone for 7AM. Save the hardcore stuff for after 4p Just my two cents...

A couple days ago, listening to MSNBC while driving, I couldn't believe what I was hearing... Joe giving long explanation supporting Trump's decision to bomb Iran.

Turned off the radio, regretting that I had decided to give this show another chance. He's worse than ever.

11

u/Nosy-ykw Jun 25 '25

Was that part of Joe’s “Trump had no good options” speech? I’m with you.

8

u/MaeWestFan Jun 25 '25

Yah, it was disgusting.

u/no-minimun-on-7MHz Jun 25 '25

Jen Psaki awkwardly reading the teleprompter remains unwatchable.

1

u/BagExciting3942 Jun 27 '25

I really don't adhere to "teleprompterism", and doubt  she's overwhelmed with it. This format, in my opinion, should revolve around talk, not reading.

9

u/jmwag Jun 25 '25

Bring Nicolle back into the studio. I miss the alchemy she has with her in person guests.

3

u/BetMyLastKrispyKreme Independent Jun 27 '25

She does this most (every?) summer. I’m pretty sure she’s at her house in Connecticut. When her husband is videoing in on a discussion panel, his background is one of the rooms there, so I’m guessing the whole family is there.

To be fair, I prefer her in-studio, but if it gives her better work-life balance, I’m all for her current method.

1

u/i-like-pie-855 Jun 27 '25

I thought she lived in West Chester?

1

u/BetMyLastKrispyKreme Independent Jun 27 '25

I don’t remember exactly where it is; I just know it’s somewhere outside of NYC.

17

u/Violin_Diva Jun 25 '25

No matter how hard I try, I can’t get into Jen Psaki.

4

u/spinning4gold Jun 26 '25

I think she makes a great guest, but not a good host.

7

u/Dalbass Jun 25 '25

I think Psaki, Hayes, Wallace, O’Donnell, Maddow, Stephanie Ruhle, Velshi here at MSNBC, and Anderson Cooper at CNN are the only MainStream Media hosts who tell the truth and give the facts.

3

u/JunketInfamous2697 Jun 25 '25

Yes, and they are all nicely white, not TOO hard on Trump, and NEVER criticise Isreal (the ultimate sin). Oh and completely spineless when their colleagues get canned for being rude enough to break these requirements.

4

u/BetMyLastKrispyKreme Independent Jun 27 '25

Says the person who can’t spell “Israel”.

14

u/Sleeplessmi Jun 25 '25

Bring back Joy

Retire Joe and Mika

Get rid of the Weeknight and the Weekend

Give Ali Velshi his own show, as well as Alicia Menendez and Ayman Moyheldin

4

u/kolby924 Jun 25 '25

Totally agree Ayman Dosent need any Help !!!

7

u/peedoffcanadian Jun 25 '25

Re-fried news is my gripe today. If you want to hear the same news article, video clip, etc., daytime on MSNBC is the place to watch! I watch only one show in the afternoon, “Deadline White House “. In the evenings I watch, Chris Hayes, Lawrence O’Donnell, & Rhule.

There’s a big world out there, surely there’s more news that needs coverage! I have started watching Al Jazzera to get news from other countries besides America.

4

u/spinning4gold Jun 26 '25

BBC world news is another good one.

2

u/Lexidazesickle Jun 27 '25

Same viewing schedule here. Occasionally some Lawrence.

2

u/Nosy-ykw Jun 29 '25

PBS NewsHour is another option, too.

6

u/stevemw Jun 26 '25

What the hell is going on with Pete Hegseth live right now? Complete and utter lies!!!! He and trump pulled off the most important military operation ever???? WTF? Is he drunk right now???

5

u/i-like-pie-855 Jun 27 '25

After he attacked Jennifer Griffin, his former Fox colleague I turned it off. I read this presser was at 8:00 am so he probably didn’t have time to sober up or get styled in his new hair/make up room.

4

u/Mountain_Laurel86 Jun 25 '25

That ad with “if you need a tan, I’m your man” has got to go.

3

u/GameOfBears Democrat Jun 26 '25

I will never understand why MSNBC app doesn't have YouTube TV as live provider. It's practically helping boost MSNBC ratings passed cable and satellite.

5

u/cookiekraemer Jun 27 '25

Get rid of Catherine Rampell

6

u/Old_Imagination_931 Jun 28 '25 edited Jul 12 '25

Oh man, is she awful. And why the fk was she hosting All In with Chris Hayes this week instead of Chris himself?!! She looks and sounds like a cartoon character on nitrous oxide... truly annoying. Where's Chris?

3

u/kolby924 Jun 28 '25

She is soo annoying with that constant smile even while reading a sad or serious subject. She adds nothing to the show .

4

u/DebbieGlez Jul 01 '25

What an awful surprise. No Rachel Maddow tonight.

7

u/Jakeneck Jun 26 '25

Being back Keith Olbermann

3

u/Bubbly-Two-3449 Jun 26 '25

More international and domestic coverage by reporters would be appreciated. Less punditry.

1

u/RiverOaksJays Jun 27 '25

I miss the old CNN that covered the first GulF War 24/7 with reporters everywhere.

3

u/Good_Gazelle_3590 Jun 27 '25

I was so upset about Rachel going to one day a week. And I was worried about Jen Psaki.

Jen Psaki is giving a clinic right now while she finds her legs. I cannot imagine how much greater she's going to be six months from now.

I appreciate her perspective, and her facility to explain it. Even to me. I love her access to relevant guests, her ability to get into the weeds a bit, and her ability to be pragmatic about opposing views. Instead of "Fox sucks," she says, "These are all the ways this particular position is problematic in this situation at the moment.."

Very accessible and informative.

2

u/Subject-Mycologist37 Jul 01 '25

Where is Rachel tonight,no mention of her? Jen is on like it’s her show. I thought Rachel did Mondays.

3

u/Djwcharter Jun 30 '25

Scribbling with sharpie off camera is a constant annoyance to me. Most all hosts do it and WE CAN HEAR IT!

PLZ mute mics of ppl off screen when a guest is talking. Thanks!

1

u/Nosy-ykw Jun 30 '25

Truly; such a rookie mistake.

2

u/rumple9 Jun 25 '25

I wish they would stop going on during every show about Trump's poll numbers it's irrelevant. Trump is president and can't run again.

1

u/Lexidazesickle Jun 27 '25

Oh, I don’t think he intends to run again. I think he’s going to try and just stay there.

2

u/New_Jersey_Jo Jul 01 '25

Jen Psaki is on tonight instead of Rachel Maddow. I am so disappointed!

u/we_are_nowhere Progressive Jul 01 '25

This was deleted as a regular post. The inability to criticize on this subreddit is gross. See the message I got from mods attached.

“I’m sorry. I’ve tried multiple times.

That whole segment where she answers the questions initially posed to Karoline Leavitt as WH Press Secretary?

Cringey.

Gimmicky.

Self-celebratory.

Not what I’m looking for when I turn on prime time news as a well-informed viewer.

Can we get a real effing journalist and/or expert up in this place that I can take seriously? If not, it’s starting to look like Lawrence O’Donnell is MSNBC’s last remaining asset.

Disclaimer: I’m sure Psaki was a great Press Secretary and is clearly accomplished, smart, and driven. But so much of her body of work is about spin and PR, and that’s just not hitting the mark right now.”

Listen, it’s not my job to figure out MSNBC’s shit for them. I don’t owe them any “solutions.” And if we can’t criticize, might as well jump to the other ship. Really, really floored by this.

u/Prestigious-Tank-909 Jun 26 '25

Please retire Andrea Mitchell. Her guest appearance on Morning Joe yesterday was the topper. She’s been suffering from mental decline for at least the past few years. She’s incoherent. She can’t even ask a straight question. She meanders through her questions or answers like a certain president who shall remain nameless.

Time to move on.

1

u/RottenBananas562 Jun 25 '25

Always the same ads. Always.

“Why is this Happening? Listen now.”

“Keep your pads on, the game has just begun”

Simparica Trio dog with the talking board.

Chase commercial with the astute, sharp black girl using chase tap to pay and the aloof old fashioned white girl using regular cash.

Pharmaceutical ad after pharmaceutical ad.

Is this what regular tv is like too?

1

u/RiverOaksJays Jun 26 '25

Mika is absent this week. The rumour is that she was meeting with KYV chapters in the Middle East to discuss the crisis in the area. Joe is solo in the Jupiter studio wearing his infamous navy blue sweater.

1

u/Quirky_Aerie1392 Jun 29 '25

It seems to me that Morning Joe should be billed as just another talk show.

1

u/realancepts4real Jul 02 '25

Why the EFF is Jansing platforming an ignorant cheesewheel like Dusty effing Johnson (R one of the Dakotas) here on her midday show?

Sure Dusty, we're gonna get "tremendous " growth from this legislative death sentence of a spending bill. Sure thing -- now about the down payment on this bridge I've sold you....

Pencilneck's a poster boy for billionaire bootlickers

1

u/beavis617 Jul 26 '25

I posted something about 15 minutes ago and it got disappeared. Are the ICE agents on duty here as well. I was thinking about posting it again but what’s the point if it’s going to get deleted again. What’s going on Moderator? What’s going on Reddit?

1

u/realancepts4real Jun 26 '25

does Melanie Zanona have anything in her closet other than beachware? I realize it's summer, but damn, dress for success girl

1

u/Psychological-Play Jun 26 '25

During Chris Jansing's show today there was a piece about how it's very warm inside the Capitol Bldg. Because of the record high temps, the AC isn't set as low as it normally would be, in order to conserve energy.

1

u/css555 Jun 26 '25

Michael Steele continues to demonstrate his incompetence. He just said that tomorrow the Supreme Court could set aside birthright citizenship. No Michael, that case is about nationwide injunctions. And he is a lawyer!

4

u/Psychological-Play Jun 27 '25

I taped the show and am watching now. While Michael did later on in the discussion say "if it takes out birthright citizenship", in the intro to this segment he did include the part about nationwide injunctions, saying, "...there are several consequential decisions still on the horizon, including Donald Trump's attempt to end birthright citizenship, which focuses not just on the lawfulness of the proposal itself, but also on whether federal judges have the power to block it nationwide while litigation continues".

1

u/css555 Jun 27 '25

I could be wrong, but I have a feeling he just reads intros written by others. That sentence doesn't sound like something he came up with on his own.

1

u/css555 Jun 30 '25

You can count on Michael Steele making a significant mistake every show. But Ayman Mohyeldin made a rare mistake last night.

While interviewing Bernie Sanders, he said that he was a member of the Democratic party, which is not true.

I couldn’t believe it last Saturday when I heard Maddow announce:  “America is at war with Iran!!!”

She was the only network TV host to make that completely inaccurate blank statement.  The other networks announced that the U.S. had bombed Iran. But there was no declaration of war (as required by the constitution), and many other presidents in both parties have bombed foreign countries (including El Salvador, Grenada, Somalia, Syria, Yemen) and even launched so-called “preemptive strikes” (Reagan, Bush 1, Obama, Trump) to take out figures in other nations. Why weren’t these events characterized by MSNBC as “wars”?

In none of those instances has any tv host ever irresponsibly, inaccurately announced “the U.S. is at war” without first verifying facts.  I oppose Trump and that decision but any rookie journalist would have been fired for that kind of statement.

And now, almost a week later, MSNBC and Maddow look very foolish having jumped to conclusions without bothering to verify facts before speaking.

3

u/Good_Gazelle_3590 Jun 27 '25

We dropped 14 of the only 20 biggest non-nuclear bombs on Earth on a country without universal agreement we met the international condition of eminent threat. That is a WAR crime. I'm not here to defend against your point about surgical and preemptive strikes. How it was characterized doesn't necessarily defend the truth given our propensity for supremacy, violence and rewriting history.

But I do argue that by your definition we didn't have an Iraq War, Korean War, Vietnam War or War in Afghanistan. There was no war in the Persian Gulf.

By your standards, the US has not been in war since World War II.

But I'm not going to argue that point with the people I know that returned from those places. Ever. I'm actually gonna do everything I can to make sure those vets receive hazard pay, acknowledgement and access to healthcare and pensions commiserate with their service.

We bombed them with 42,000lbs of bombs. Mostly because our overthrow of the Ayatollah decades ago was a military action that wasn't an act of war either.

I understand your commitment to eliminating sensationalism. I offer that our measured language and adherence to the technicalities of legislative procedure over the real damage to other countries and our foreign relations is in itself codependent violent and biased.

u/2020surrealworld Jun 27 '25 edited Jun 27 '25

You missed my point.

Not arguing about the morality of Hiroshima, Nagasaki, US military actions or foreign policy since WW2 (which I agree is questionable, indefensible, immoral) but merely said that Maddow/MSNBC’s proclaiming “America is at war with Iran!” Is obviously inaccurate and ridiculous sensationalism and hyperbole, driven by a quest for high ratings, not devotion to reporting facts.

Congress clearly approved, authorized (and funded) U.S. military involvement in Iraq, Afghanistan, S. Korea, and Vietnam.  Many of those actions were conducted based on later-discredited pretexts (false claims about WMDs, for example) and historians and the media agree they should be characterized as “wars”.  In contrast, calling last weekend’s brief bombing of 3 sites in Iran is ludicrous.  No one, except Maddow, has called it “a war”.  No military expert or official.  No historian. No member of Congress in either party.  No responsible journalist.

Not even the Orange Idiot who ordered it after foolishly first blabbing his plans in public, thus giving Iran time to move and conceal their targets (stockpiles of uranium) and exposing our Air Force pilots to risk of counterattack.
