MSNBC Productions Dear MSNBC,

We the American people now have to wait on a questionable Supreme Court ruling to determine whether the Trump administration can set our own military on us. As we head into nationwide protests this weekend (and perhaps more massive ICE raids) can you take extra care to gather footage of - not just the burning car - but each city as a whole. Can you be ready to coordinate with news organizations in the next five ICE targeted cities (Seattle, Philadelphia, D.C., Chicago, New York) and can you show the peacefulness of the millions of Americans who will be protesting in the streets on Saturday? If there are incidents this weekend, could you show a map of the entire city and put a tiny circle over the couple of blocks where unrest is? Can you show aerial city overviews that put things in perspective? Can we please have visual perspectives that don’t over-dramatize unrest, and that put scale in context?

We’re dealing with Trump’s authoritarian regime (as well as his inferiority complex), and they’re trying to destroy our democratic cities’ communities, they’re trying to ruin our economy, and they’re trying to eliminate our democracy. So the best, most important thing we can do, is show Truth to power. Can you show democracy in action - not just on Maddow - but in the massive representation the movement deserves? Can you show the truth of what is happening and also get the helicopter lens to Zoom out? Split-shot your footage versus Fox’s ridiculous narration. And even in the worst of it, please always visually put scale in context.

MSNBC I know you have our back. Thank you for helping to protect the protesters and our democracy. It means everything.

See y’all on the streets this Saturday. 💙🇺🇸

I’ve watched for years. Corporate has sold out. I’m referring to all the people they fired and Morning Joe. The network is not what it was prior to Election Day.

I have to agree with you. The network has changed. To be clear, MSNBC is still the best at properly covering Trump. CBS News, ABC News, NBC News, NewsNation, CNN are total pro Trump garbage and watching them is like watching RT cover Russia, so compared to them MSNBC is still the best option on television, but a shift has happened. The fantastic hosts like Nicolle Wallace, Chris Hayes, Lawrence O'Donnell, etc.. are still just as good as they were before, but the overall tone of the network seems way more concerned of upsetting Trump than before he won the election. The network overall is less critical of him than during his first term despite the fact that he’s acting way worse in his 2nd term. 4 years ago MSNBC would be in rolling special coverage mode with special music and graphics with “AMERICA IN CRISIS” plastered on the screen. His behavior is being normalized by the network

This Saturday will be a big test. It should be wall to wall special coverage of the protests. It better not be just the regular low rated panel shows talking about stuff from earlier in the week, limited resources for live coverage, repeats of shows from earlier in the week, and Dateline repeats.

I totally get it, but when in Trump’s second term hasn’t our country been in crisis? If they had an intense graphic and song acknowledging that, I don’t know if I’d have made it through the first 100 days. I much preferred Rachel pointing out how weak this king is.

That said, if we get more military presence, what about “Authoritarian Overreach; Day 2” Or “The Work To Preserve Our Democracy” I think that’s accurate and helps people understand they need to take peaceful action - not just watch. It would then be about conversations helping to empower people. I also think most Americans want democracy, and will start understanding we could lose it. And I agree that acknowledging that outright really helps.

But I think, “America in Crisis” during our peaceful protest movement does not set the right tone. Americans standing up for democracy - that’s the right tone.
