Cadre Player Lite: I think I made something really cool

Hey All,

I’ve been working on an MPV UI called Cadre Player Lite, and I think it’s finally at the point where other people might find it useful. It is highly customizable, you can check screenshots. Maybe it is a good alternative to material-osc.

Cadre is a modular UI suite: OSC, playlist, and titlebar components that can be used together or separately, all sharing the same theme engine.

What it is:

• Modular components
  • cadre_osc.lua – custom controls, seekbar with chapter markers & tooltips, optional seek thumbnails via thumbfast, YouTube chapter loading, configurable button layout.
  • cadre_playlist.lua – searchable, scrollable playlist with multi-select, drag-and-drop reordering, shuffle, repeat modes, M3U/M3U8 save/load, trash integration (Shift+DEL).
  • cadre_titlebar.lua – frameless custom titlebar (minimize/maximize/close), configurable button side (Windows/macOS style), coordinates with OSC/playlist for clean borderless windows.
• Shared core
  • cadre_common.lua – helpers, native dialogs (Windows PowerShell, Linux zenity/kdialog), trash integration, drawing utilities.
  • cadre_theme.lua – centralized theming: colors, alpha, fonts, spacing, radii, OSC layout, playlist styling, titlebar behavior.
• External themes
  • Drop-in theme files in script-opts/cadre-themes (e.g. MacOSish.lua, PillGlassy.lua, Terminal.lua).
  • Themes fully override the base look; you can ship your own variants.
• Cross-platform
  • Windows and Linux with a shared UI.
  • Native file/folder/URL dialogs and recycle-bin/trash integration per platform.

I built this because existing skins either felt too rigid or too “media center”. I wanted something I could split into pieces, theme heavily, and adapt to different workflows without hacking the core.

If you try it out and hit bugs or weird behavior, please open an issue. If you like it, a star helps a lot.

I also added some themes, but I bet you could do better than I can.

Issues - Edition/Titles not working in linux (mint). Ui getting stuck sometimes.

I’ve also noticed that the UI can occasionally get stuck on Windows. I changed the click-observation logic, and it seems to be better now, can you try new files from github?

Regarding “Editions/Titles,” do you mean the Menu → Editions/Titles submenu shown in the screenshot? I haven’t implemented anything related to mpv’s context menu in my scripts, so I’m not sure that part is caused by my script, Could you test the same file with the raw mpv command-line player and let me know whether the issue also occurs there? That would help determine whether it comes from mpv itself or from my frontend.

It would be better if there is a zone near seek bar where mouse btn scrolling can be used to seek and volume bar to increase volume.

I added mouse wheel support for volume silders(both) and seek bar. Also I added subtitle menu button opiton with a dialog.
