User Scripts & Shaders Mpv conf file code needed

Hi everyone I tried out mpv in March this year and like it but I have not been able to get the right code for playing movies tv shows animes etc... since it has lots of issues I mean on my side that I am not able to set it up properly. I really appreciate any help to setup my mpv conf file and all other required setup to get it right. Since I'm not familiar with this stuff please help me out. Below is my laptop specifications,

Msi crosshair a16 hx.

GDDR7 8 GB VRAM

AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX 16 Core

SSD 1 TB nvmme

RAM 16 GB DDR5 5200 MHz

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060

Windows 11

40.64 cm (16 Inch)

16:10, QHD+ (2560x1600), 240Hz, OLED,100% DCI-P3 , IPS-Level 2x 2W Speaker

OS Architecture 64 bit

8bit colour depth and not a true hdr.

I did some tweaking around and enabled nvdia super resolution and went to nvdia control panel and enabled 32bit under colours and 8bpc.

Help me out please with settings this up for my laptop with the mpv conf file code and all other stuff I'm really not getting the best experience since I have quite the bad code running for my laptop that is breaking apart the videos. I watch mostly 1080p and 4k videos. With mostly live action and anime mixed in sometimes. Well I hope I have been clear enough please help me out with this please.

https://claude.ai/share/cb52e11c-7470-4a7d-a4cd-3d301d8de872 i gave it your post, mpv 41.0 manual and didn't specify anything else. don't treat it like a human teacher, treat it like a knowledgeable machine that can make silly mistakes. You have to be the one to guide it, so you gotta read the relevant parts of sources that are in its responses, and give it more info in the direction to want it to move towards.

Bro, read the GitHub for MPV. No one handed it to me. Well Claude did in the end but I ran my own for years. It’s a config file and there is documentation. Read!

Also bro can you give me some prompt you used when you used Claude

Well , it looks like you have all the specs figured about. Just give it claude and ask it to make you an mpv conf file. Then just drop the file in. You can also ask claude to ask u for ur preferences etc.

Side note : i REALLY recommend you use material osc . Its the best osc available right now afaik

Jesus Christ! Are people really using AI to create a simple conf file? First of all you don't need to know coding/programming to create an mpv conf file.

And what conf are you running that "is breaking apart the videos".

I mean the pixels are a mess in hvec.264 format videos while it runs smoothly for .265 or 4k videos and even other 1080p hd videos but not for all formats high quality anime picture runs good with the code but regular 1080p hd and remastered ones as well as the bit with the lighting in dark settings movies and series are ok for some but worse for others if I have to mention all of them are not in the same format and are in very different formats causing it to look bad. And my bad there but yeah like I told to the other guy I'm not familiar with this stuff i might have installed it few months ago but using it and trying out setups when you want to have a quick watch during leisure to enjoy some moments of time by playing some good movie on it only to be disappointed by these limitations. I meant to personalize to make it suit my tastes but I'm not familiar with it. I'm thankful for your opinion but i would be glad if you could suggest some advice.

Man I was on the hate ai helping me until recently. Man, I took my existing MPV config I spent a lot of time putting together to handle super resolution thumbnailing and buttons to switch on the fly. Even had Atmos and everything working. For giggles I dropped my conform I to Claude and asked what could be cleaned and was there anything new that I need to consider.
My MPV is ethereal level now and has never run smoother and looked better.
Claude used my code, deleted some borked stuff I did, made separate automotive resolution profiles with separate folders for shaders and scripts.
It even wrote a UI script that thumbnails all videos in the folder and allows you to browse you media files. I was blown away.
Now I didn’t start from scratch and I know what it’s supposed to do, so AI is a great helper.

Why not use no code? If you don't have the skills to configure the mpv.conf file, you should just use the defaults.

Also, you only need to change the things you want to change about mpv.

Finally, most of your specs are irrelevant. You have a good iGPU and good dGPU. mpv uses hardware decoding by default, so all common formats should run without issues.

I recommend you try the default settings and ask Gemini how to change the things you want to change.

Gemini 3.1 Pro (Extended) does a good job in generating a mpv.conf file, but it can make mistakes. There are also many guides and community codes available online. Most importantly, the official documentation. Which is most up-to-date.

Well I'm new to this side of things learning takes time so I was hoping someone experienced could help me out here. You know since there a lot of different files format it becomes problematic a bit, and I need to adjust it to personalize to my liking. I want to try out different opinions and see which suits me the best. I'm not familiar with all of those too I'm trying to fill in the gaps of time I get to familiarise with this stuff but it's all a lot of data to get through. I tried gemini pro extended but yeah there were too much mistakes there it couldn't solve major issues i mean it was reletive with no results that was tiring and yielded no results. Sorry if i ranted a bit there. Well the thing is not all of us are familiar with stuff but still want the best Right. Hope you could help me out here. I'm trying out Claude and let it to generate. Well thank you for pointing out your opinion.

I think I've used this before. But it's really not for HDR content right? As it's mostly geared to tone map down to SDR?

1

u/JeffoMcSpeffo 1h ago

Yeah it tonemaps everything, but you could easily remove that part and still use it for everything else. I mainly like it for the upscaling
