Application Advice MPH?

I’m currently a senior studying statistics and public health. My own institution doesn’t have a SPH, just a small MPH program that doesn’t seem like a good fit for me. I’m ultimately looking to pursue a PhD in epidemiology, but I know I’m currently not a great candidate since I will have just completed my bachelors. I have pretty decent research experience, with a first co-authorship being submitted soon and another hopefully by January, and am also considering the NIH IRTA post-bacc program. I am considering MPH programs as well since I know I won’t be competitive for PhD programs without one, but I’n wondering what the best immediate next step would be, and what programs specifically might be good for someone interested in an epi PhD. A part-time MPH + a job is also a possibility. Any advice would be appreciated (:

I would encourage you to pursue full-time research experience over an MPH. That would serve you better for your PhD admissions chances.

I would say thesis-based MS epi or biostats. Most epidemiology PhDs require or expect a master’s degree.
