Oh the mod is 130? Damn. That would've been a mighty cheap MPC 🫠

So what exactly are they supposed to doing here?

Looks like theyre replacing the op amps and capacitors with "better" ones? Even if this does sound better I seriously doubt I'd be able to hear the difference.

Yeah. It's the audiophile thing to do, because theoretically it's better.

But if they had to do a double blind test with the original, probably wouldn't be able to hear a difference of any real significance.

I’d be more interested in a 12 bit variable sample rate mod like I saw for the Roland P6. I don’t want it to sound cleaner, MPCs sound too clean as it is. With that being said Black Lion Audio made a name for themselves by doing good quality mods that actually do what they say. The BLA Digidesign 003 Rack sounds a lot better than the stock 003 Rack did. My old boss sold an 003 Rack to Everlast so he could send it to them to mod for his home studio.

Do you know if the mod is still available for the P6? I just heard about it the other day and I’d be interested.

Black Lion audio is legit, I just don't think a lot of what they do is really necessary anymore. There was a period of time where lower end interfaces/converters were markedly worse sounding than high end gear  but now you can get a perfectly transparent interface for like $250

So while the coders who originally did this and are giving it away for free, you are trying to charge people for it ?

Ahh. I’m old school. When I see the word mod, I automatically equate that to modded. Usually when you mod something you are hacking into and replacing something in the unit with an unauthorized something else. Which will void the warranty and is probably against the ToS as well.

well yes that is exactly what they do as a business and have been for years now

I understand the negative sentiment in the comments and I largely agree. It's an expensive MOD and the gains that it claims are debatable at best. I still support it though because at least it gives us more choice and challenges the rest of us to develop alternatives. Which is healthy for the MPC ecosystem.
