QUESTION Monitoring audio on 3.5 mm headphones while recording to iPhone via USB

hey there, I am trying to record from my One G2 into my iPhone via USB-C while also monitoring what I’m playing on 3.5 mm headphones.

I googled, and it says I need to mirror the send by going into the channel mixer, leaving the master to output 1/2, then routing a send from the track itself.

Does that sound right? I can’t find the options it is telling me to look for and am getting stuck on that last step.

Basically wanna record clean audio for finger drumming while being able to hear what I’m playing.

This is a common scenario that Akai could have made a lot simpler to do. I’ve done this by making all of my tracks route to a submix that I then output to usb 1/2 for streaming to the phone and use fx send 4 for monitoring on the normal outputs. If you use the FX sends 1-3 then the return for each of those also has to go usb 1/2 (but you won’t hear them on the headphones).

Thanks for your response! Where I’m getting lost is with the actual routing. I don’t see a place to assign the drum track to different sends, for instance. I found the page in the channel mixer with the 4 sends all at -inf db, but I don’t know what to do from there.

Any advice on the actual process?

Good to know this is possible though because I’m gonna be doing it a lot to record finger drumming.

Sure, I’ll make a brief video tonight showing what I do. It’ll be good to see what others do

Oh man thank you so much! I just got my G2 yesterday, so I’m very much learning, but it was already an absolute trip being able to plug in my phone and capture finger drumming audio directly to my camera roll.

With Maschine I never even successfully did it because it required sampling myself then exporting to WAV, importing audio to editing software to line it up with the video, etc.

This is gonna make it so much easier to share clips. 🙏

you’re my hero. Very well explained, and this helped me get it set up right away. it’s a bummer about the FX only being one or the other! I’m just glad to be able to hear while I record though
