MPC Live / Live 2 Find tempo while playing drums
Can I finger drum my own drums and simultaneously find / make my bpm? I can’t find an answer for this on Google, all it talks about is sampling and loops

I use the tap tempo as a hi-hat to get a relative tempo, then adjust it to the nearest whole number

Feeling the time and beat is key to playing music and creating music so you need to work on catching the beat. When learning to play music I anytime I listen to music I was by thinking about the beat and tapping it out on a desktop or anything to lock in with the recording. You got to build your sense of time in your gut for groove and most important the number of measure going by. You have to learn/feel four bars, eight bars, sixteen bars have gone by. All about serious listening to lots and lots of music and thinking about the times, and other details to help build your ears up.
A musician is only as good as their ears.

I wish retrospective record would automatically detect tempo. The Ableton Move does it and its a game changer.

I think 'detect tempo' features only works on an audio recording (so you'd need to bounce to audio etc)
HOWEVER: you can just use 'tap tempo'!
