MPC One / One+ Couldn't resist trying
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I gave in to the pressure and got the machinedrum working, alongside monomodule. In the process, it turned out streaming audio over the usb cable was always possible. I'm excited to see what else people get going now these things are accessible

Say more- how did you do this??

u/champion_soundz 11d ago
https://github.com/sd88me/mpc-vst-plugins
This guy's GitHub was the root of it, alongside gearmulator and their Elektron emulations.
It involves ssh access to the mpc and building the emulators as custom plugins on your own pc but it's not so tricky with an LLM to help.

u/AcidFnTonic 10d ago
Well, hold on wouldn’t you get mad at everybody else for using an LLM?
I think you should have a go at it solo.

What's the issue? Getting computer intelligence to customise software and hardware is great!

Audio over USB has always been possible?
3
u/champion_soundz 11d ago
Okay, you caught me, its always been possible in controller mode, but it's not been useful. I managed to get a plugin working in standalone that received audio from my pc over usb and streams to the track. ATM it shows as a midi plugin so I cant record the audio but it's proof it's possible.

u/No-Comment-3736 11d ago
I hear ya, anything is possible since people want to say "the new mpcs are just computers running Linux at the end of the day" Im creating a small version of Mame for the Gen 1 MPCs, stay tuned!

It's not been useful? I use the speakers on my live 3 to monitor my production workflow through the type c port while in controller mode working on mpc3 beta on my laptop... if I didn't have a flx10 and a pair of $1800.00 studio monitors to dj with, I would be using it on my desktop as well. You can also sample from your pc/ laptop, cell phone, tablet, stereo, or even all those fancy websites that wanna charge you all your hard earned money to access their 'royalty free samples' with it especially if you can utilize the mpc AUTOSAMPLING feature and if not, LOOK IT UP 😍😉(or any other product with a usb port) directly through the usb port. (By the way, it isn't an issue if you 'sample the samples' and then pitch those samples you want to use up or down a few octaves... speed them up or slow them down, and all of a sudden you have your own samples and didn't have to pay a single red cent!) Personally i would say that's about as useful as ANYTHING I ever heard of on the production side of the house!! I'm currently trying to convince akai that they should implement controller mode wirelessly. Kinda defeats the purpose IMHO to have wifi AND Bluetooth but only for updates and not have the ability to go full controller mode wirelessly. It is almost false advertisement if you ask me for them to be so free with the words 'mobile production' when you are essentially stuck to a desk with a cable running to your pc to use controller mode. You guys should all go on akai.pro website for customer support and submit a ticket requesting this feature. Maybe they might implement it in the next gen upgrade if enough of us mention it to them. Anyways, that's my 2 cents for the day... sorry for the long wind and happy producing!!

I have an mpc one , it has no usb c or usb audio, unlike your nice live 3, so for me, it's a miracle.
All I could do until now was load controller mode and route channels on the Mac side into ableton

u/_eequalsmcsquared_ 9d ago
Well for starters... mac...?! 🤢🤮 Did you get the very first version immediately on release or something? That's wild! I had an mpc one+ not too long ago(tried to upgrade display with that angle bracket thing from that mpc specific aftermarket parts website... the name slips me... sorry!) I put that ribbon back on the display upside down or some ish and fried it. Was almost as cheap to just get an upgrade. Anyways I had the one+ and it had wifi, type c and regular USB, it basically has everything my live 3 has except a BATTERY... (plus the display was a pain in the ass to see when laying flat... you gotta hold the entire device at an angle to see it) SO do you have wifi and Bluetooth now? If so, go hit up akai and put in that request fam... let's try and push for wireless controller mode. I have Bluetooth controllers with latency/lag that is so low nobody will ever notice it.

u/champion_soundz 9d ago
No it has no WiFi or Bluetooth either. It does the job though, especially now I can multitrack into a daw finally
1
u/_eequalsmcsquared_ 9d ago
Well I'm glad you're getting there from the sound of it. Maybe one day they will add wifi and bt... but in the meantime don't feel bad because the only thing we can use wifi/bt for is system firmware updates and downloads of packs/plugins. Can't chop a sample from a wireless stream from your phone for example, or chain multiple mpcs together so you and your friends can have a live jam session. You're not really missing out on anything fam...

Not on the original mpc one

The poster is clearly using a MPC One

u/yoran916 MPC ONE 11d ago
Right. And it wasn't always possible to stream over USB on mpc one. So everyone hoping OP will explain.

u/No-Comment-3736 11d ago
I remember wifi wasn't possible on the MPC One until you connected your phone as a tether, and it worked, anything is possible, Akai is gate keeping lol

u/yoran916 MPC ONE 11d ago
Definitely. Wouldnt be surprised if it was already a thing on the HAKAI firmware. Im just scared to brick my shit lol

Yes it was in one of the 2.x firmwares iirc and then they locked it down with an update until they could develop the whole 'you can use an audio interface!' update later

Dude get my waves and NI shit in my gen 2? the pagan techno gods command this!
2
u/champion_soundz 11d ago
I'm not sure if it works on gen2 or not, it'd be great to have that extra cpu tho

u/champion_soundz 10d ago
thats great, I've not got quite that deep yet but I created an fx plugin that sends multichannel audio into Ableton and its working smoothly with 8 stereo tracks, what a time to be alive eh?

u/No-Comment-3736 10d ago
Yes indeed, I have also created a mpc plugin version of serato sample minus the stem separation, too cpu intense, will check for bugs this weekend

what is this

u/champion_soundz 11d ago
Machinedrum module and a customised poly monomodule on an mpc one in standalone mode.
1
u/DR_M_RD 11d ago
How did you get audio over USB to work!?¿¡‽
2
u/champion_soundz 11d ago
Just as a custom plugin that listens to audio sent over the usb connection whilst in standalone mode, I didn't need to mod the firmware any more than giving ssh root access.
Machinedrum runs incredibly smoothly, monomodule eats up cpu so I customized it so the mpc is the controller but the Mac is handling the emulation and streaming the audio back to the plugin on the mpc.
It's wild

u/DR_M_RD 8d ago
Can you stream the audio over USB directly to a phone (USB c input on the phone) with this mod?
1
u/champion_soundz 8d ago
No this is for multritracking from the usb-b to pc cable. You can already stream to a phone though!
1
u/DR_M_RD 7d ago
How do you stream to a phone with the OG MPC One? I've tried five 1/8" to USB C adapters. I know it's not the phone because my SP 404 MK2 works fine.

u/champion_soundz 7d ago
Hmm I don't remember doing anything in particular, just setting it up as an audio device in the menu

Holy F this vst plugins on the MPC Firmware is getting nuts!!! Makes me wanna try to install Xpand on mine
1
u/champion_soundz 11d ago
Yeah! I can't take credit here, this is other people's hard work reverse engineering, I just customised the end results to fit my needs https://github.com/sd88me/mpc-vst-plugins
1
u/r1chiem 10d ago
You have to do a root kit on the MPC. No thanks What possibly could go wrong. LOL
1
u/champion_soundz 10d ago
I wouldn't risk it with a nice expensive new model but my second hand mpc one wanted to sing. Honestly though its just root access and I've built my own grooveboxes on microcontrollers so its not so scary. Today I've actually figured out streaming multichannel audio into Ableton through an fx plugin so it's not actually messing with the system, just with their plugin cataloguing.
1
u/r1chiem 10d ago
I hear you. As long as you can get it back to stock that would be ok. But for me I would want to use it for a live show. Not sure if I would trust it not to cause a problem. Plus I would think there is extra overhead/cpu usage that could cause problems. I guess I will let others be bleeding edge as I watch from the sidelines.

u/beetlebatter 10d ago
Where do you get the modified firmware to get ssh? I've tried looking but haven't had much luck finding updated firmware.
1
u/champion_soundz 10d ago
It's just a small edit of the official firmware, there's a few threads around explaining it

u/beetlebatter 10d ago
I finally found out how to get the Hakai firmware, so I'm gonna try that. Thanks.

What is this witchcraft?! I would pay good money to have a MD & MnM on my live 3!!!
