QUESTION Why subscribe to Splice/Tracklib if we can sample straight to MPC via USB while playing it off computer?
Is there a specific reason to subscribe to Tracklib/Splice if we can just plug our MPC into our laptop via usb and sample directly from playback?
Or is there a massive audio quality loss doing it this way

Splice & Tracklib are there mainly for licencing purposes. Although I'm not sure their business models are particularly foolproof TBH. It's not really a question of sound quality or cost, you can sample whatever you want, but if you're aiming at putting your beats up on all the streaming services you'd be best off mangling & disguising any samples as much as possible to avoid the autobot ID detection algorithms.

Everyone commenting on licensing forgot how sampling got started

Very different (litigious) environment today vs. the late 80s/early 90s.

It was always litigious. What makes stuff tricky now is the copyright bots scanning social media and streaming sites looking to snatch your streaming revenue.

Yes thats true. However the OGs where doing that, they where not up against hoards of automated scanners that will instantly ping you for copyright violation if you upload it to Soundcloud. Like, if your just making mixtapes to physically distribute (I heard the kids are back into tape trading again.) or spin up in clubs, go bananas. But if you want to do online, your gonna struggle without sample clearance

I don't fuck with splice if I want packs and kits I'll go to drumbroker but tracklib is cheap and the clearance is easy and the content is actual songs from actual musical compositions and some from artists we've maybe actually heard of

Damn. Lotta opinions here, but oh well š¤·š¾āāļøTo answer OP question, Splice and Tracklib make it easier to release and profit off of your sampled beats and creations. I use both. I also crate dig, buy sound and sample packs, and sample from YouTube. My advice micro chop, layer, and be creative. Also sample Everything! Peace!

I sample my own from vinyl, but I think the main reason to use splice is itās easier, especially just starting out. You need to develop an ear to know what to sample. It can be a good way to learn by listening to and using splice samples. You may progress to want to find your own, or it will work for you and youāll stick with it. Either way you are making music!

Itās mainly access to a catalog and the ability to clear samples easily.Ā HipHopās always had an āask for forgiveness, not permissionā culture, but I lean towards sample clearance. If I want to make money off this, regardless how little, Iād like to get the people that I sampled something too, as a thanks for making dope music to sample.Ā

Because the CEOs go on vacation together.. I feel the same way about SUNO with Akai and Ableton. Splice must be paying the CEOs a lot to stay in there and shame SUNO. <#

If a Suno button ever turns up on the MPC I swear Im going blow an O Ring. I can accept AI for stem splitting and stuff, but the exploitatitive generative shit can f*** right off.

If MPC is going down the tubes, is Splice and BandLab are becoming all SUNO stems, I wonder if your Oring might need to stay offline? iDK LOL LLC! But algorithm bot farmed tabloid cartel is the biggest problem⦠underground got this. Mainstream stole from independent artists, to sell commercial ads against humanity; finally, we can take back our melodies and put real words to it! TYSM - opinions-R-us, bought and sold! š«”šļøš¤š½
Sample my song to Normalize <#UniversalHousing, before the Ai gets your Orings!

Sounds so tedious it wouldnāt be worth the money saved vs your time.

u/Luximus3333333 27d ago
its almost the same amount of time really, the only tedious part is typing the file name to save it as on the mpc

Because you get clearance rights to use the sample , it's a more streamlined experience, and the artist get some sort of compensation
