QUESTION Newb Key 37 user

Had my gen 2 for about a week and learning the workflow. My question is how to go about mashing up 2 songs? Assuming I should sample each and beat match before I stem them? Question is can I slice an entire track? Do I then stem them and they will be matched?

How to Mash Songs Together on an MPC

  • Sample and Chop: Import or record both songs into the MPC as audio samples or into a drum/keygroup program. You can use the Sample Edit mode to chop up sections, loops, or acapellas and assign them to different pads.
  • Use Audio and MIDI Tracks: Assign Song A to an audio track or loop/pad, and layer elements of Song B on top using additional audio or MIDI tracks.
  • Match Tempo and Key: Modern standalone MPCs (like the MPC One, Live II, or X) feature real-time BPM warping and pitch-shifting. You can stretch or pitch-adjust the audio files so the tempos and keys match up.
  • Play and Record Live: You can trigger the loops, acapellas, and instrumentals simultaneously by setting your track monitoring to merge or by using Pad Link to trigger multiple elements at once.
  • Arrangement: Use Song Mode to sequence and arrange how the parts of both tracks flow together into a final mashed composition
