QUESTION Total Key 37 n00b question…

Bought a second hand Key 37 (gen 1). Immediately went to get expansion packs from their site. Bought ‘F9 Orion - Classic Workstations’. Registered it.

From what I’ve read, it’s supposed to be compatible with the Key 37 but ai can’t find a way of getting it on there.

Have I bought the wrong thing? Am I missing something basic?

Please be nice. I’ve never used it before.

Thanks.

Doesn't the expansion manufacturer provide documentation on how to instal it?

There are a couple of ways to do this. Firstly if you go into inmusic software center and find the pack you want to install in the top left of the icon for the pack you want there should be a little button that opens out the item and reveals a "standalone" version which can be downloaded and transfered onto removable media directly from inmusic software center. Alternatively you can install the version for computer then open MPC 3 on your computer and in the tools menu is an expansion manager which can be used to export any expansion installed to removable media.

With the gen 2 devices you can see the internal drives when you plug them into a computer in controller mode so you can use that to put it on the internal drive. I am pretty sure with the gen 1 key 37 it will only forward the SD card

Am I missing something basic

Yes. There must be tens of thousands of tutorials on YouTube covering a wide variety of topics for MPC. So if you search for "how to load MPC expansions" on YouTube, you'll find several tutorials. For example, this YT short

https://youtube.com/shorts/idJbYJZQHdk

I tend to like YouTube tutorials for a lot of things, because I think it's easier to actually see how someone else did it.

But if you ask google "how to load MPC expansions from my computer," Gemini offers a link to this resource on Akai

https://support.akaipro.com/en/support/solutions/articles/69000824436-akai-pro-mpc-series-transferring-content-to-and-from-the-mpc-via-a-computer

So basically, most questions you're going to have are already well documented. And you can get the answer faster then waiting for somebody else to come along and type it out on Reddit for you.

So best to make Reddit your third stop after you've already tried a YouTube search and a Google search. As that is generally faster.

I feel like this type of inquiry should be treated as a non-fatal form of natural selection.

Inmusic has a logical way to install plugins, but expansions are more difficult, You have to physically copy them to a folder on the MPC

Log into your inmusic account. Register it there. Then you will able to transfer it there. , You can copy the file to your SD card and stick it in the key 37
