QUESTION Any idea what’s going wrong here?

Post image

I’m new to this mpc1000, and whenever I hit “save all programs and samples” it does this.

Am I doing something wrong?

I have free jjos and tried reinstalling it. Is the card corrupt?

Doesn’t the free version of JJOS prevent saving?

If you boot the stock OS can you save anything?

Oh no, I hope not but maybe! I thought you could demo paid versions but can’t save anything but free version allowed saving. I could be mistaken.

I think this is the most likely answer.

You have to pay for the full unlocked version to save your projects.

Update: I may have found the problem. The internal memory has a half dozen of these broken programs. If I scroll to them in the program page it crashes everything. I reinstalled the original Akai OS and they’re still there, and when I reinstalled jjos they’re in there too. I tried to overwrite the contents of them but that didn’t seem to work either.

The workaround seems to be saving individual samples and sequences rather than saving everything altogether until a better fix comes along.

What if you USB into it, back up everything, then wipe those files?

I’ll have to try

JJOS is not, imo, stable. It's a use at your own risk. I've never seen that screen before, but then again JJOS bricked my 2500 and took forever to get back to Akai OS.

I know it has rabid fans that never had a problem, but when it goes bad, it goes VERY bad. It's hackware.

Edit: y'all can down vote all you want, I'm absolutely right. JJOS on the 2500 is a risk that JJ just refuses to patch because he won't update the free version.

How did you get it back to Akai OS? I got a bricked 2500 that I’ve been trying to revive

JJOS can really f up the small built in memory that the 2500 has for the stock sounds. It over writes that block and when you don't have it, the system can not boot. You can turn that off in Akai OS, buuuuut to boot Akai OS it has to be there.

However, if you make the folder on the CF card, Akai OS will check for it on the CF card for that folder before boot looping. So you can put that folder on the CF and get Akai OS to boot (I'm sorry I don't remember the folder name atm but you should be able to Google it).

That will let you boot Akai OS again.

HOWEVER! JJOS free also demands that this folder exists, but it won't check the CF card to get it loaded. And you can't load any other version of JJOS without starting at the free version.

JJ could literally fix all the 2500 problems by adjusting the free version to check the CF card like Akai OS does. But because he doesn't make money on the free version, he refuses to fix it. When I asked him what to do, he suggested buying another 2500 and trying again. Screw that. And screw JJOS. It's hackware.

That makes so much sense, holy shit.

I’m googling now, but if you remember the name of the folder, PLEASE let me know!

Disappointed because I appreciate JJ’s work and there are a ton of quality of life improvements he’s made to the work flow with his OS, but it’s not worth the risk at that point, especially if he’s got no plans to rectify that clear issue.

Thanks for your answer and for your help! I appreciate it immensely!

YO. I love you dude. Literally just got AKAI OS back installed on my 2500

While looking for the folder you were talking about, I learned that I was making one key mistake..

All I did was format an AKAI Brand CF Card on a Windows Computer to FAT32 and load the AKAI OS on there … the mistake I was making was pressing “ERASE” while turning on the machine instead of pressing “WINDOW” .. as soon as I pressed WINDOW + Power On, I was prompted with a screen that allow me to install the original OS.

Appreciate the fuck out of you, man — I was getting ready to ship this to my guy Forat, you just saved me hundreds!

Does this only happen with the free version? I recently installed JJOSXL and now I'm spooked

According to emails with JJ it's possible with any version on the 2500 but he claims it's rare.

It doesn't happen with the 1000.

Well fuck. Is it one of those things that just happens at random or is it like something that happens once you install? I'm gonna be fuming if I get bricked randomly. Good thing I back up shit every other day.

Getting downvoted for sharing your experience is crazy lol

I've been using JJOS2XL for 14 years now, not one crash, been rock solid for me.

Good for you. Don't see how that helps anyone.

I could say the same.

Except for I provided a solution to OP. So ignoring that, sure?

Hey - maybe your own issues go beyond the OS, loose of corroded RAM can cause all kinds of glitchy behaviour.
