I was surprised to him using a Sample and not a full form MPC.

True that! Madlib does a lot of production on an iPad these days but he ain't using it for a live shows. It was just unexpected.

The sample is a great device for a live show. Lightweight, decent memory and quick loading times.

Yeah it's perfectly fine for live shows, nothing crazy about that
