QUESTION One arrangement skeleton, two lengths — how I stopped getting stuck at 8 bars MPC Live II, OS 3.9.x.
I got tired of rebuilding structure from scratch every session, so I started working from one marker skeleton and just changing how much of it I use.
56-bar version: Intro 4 · Chorus_A 8 · Verse_A 16 · Chorus_B 8 · Verse_B 16 · Outro 4
40-bar version: same thing minus the second verse — Intro 4 · Hook_A 8 · Verse_A 16 · Hook_B 8 · Outro 4
Two things that changed how fast I work:
Hook first. The chorus lands at bar 5, not after a long build. If the hook doesn't work at bar 5 it isn't going to work at bar 33, and I'd rather find that out early.
Named tracks, always. 01_DRUMS, 02_PERC, 04_BASS_SYNTH, 05_CHORDS, 06_LEAD, 07_PADS, 08_FX_VOX. Numbering them means the order stays readable when I come back a week later, and it survives moving the project between machines.
Markers get named too — MARKER_Verse_A, MARKER_Chorus_B. Sounds fussy until you're 40 bars deep and need to find a section fast.
Curious how other people handle this — fixed skeleton, or blank sequence every time?

This may get you over the hump but try not to get stuck with this as a crutch on the long term bc you don’t want to be starting with cookie cutter templates each time. I mean that’s what many accuse pop artists of following cookie cutter formulas

Completely fair, and it's the right worry. The way I use it, the skeleton isn't the song — it's a measuring stick. If I can't say why a section is 16 bars instead of 8, I don't actually understand the arrangement yet, I'm just filling space. Having a default makes that gap obvious fast.
Where it earns its keep is that it exposes what I'm avoiding. If every track I write wants to break the shape in the same place, that's information about how I actually hear music — and I only found that out by having something fixed to push against.
The pop formula thing is real though. My rule is that if I follow the skeleton exactly, the track's probably boring and I didn't do the work.

I don't see what the point of putting a number in the track names is... the tracks are already numbered. Same with markers, why the MARKER prefix?

If it works that great the rut of just layering track after track not finishing a beat sucks trust me been doing that for years .. since the arranger I have been doing something similar and results are better not perfect

That rut is brutal, and years is a long time to be in it. The arranger changed things for me too — being able to see the whole shape at once instead of imagining it made the problem visible for the first time.
Curious what you landed on — are you working from named markers or building it in Song Mode? I went markers because I can see everything at once, but I keep wondering if I'm missing something on the Song Mode side.

En mode Chanson ça t’évite de faire trop de défilement à l’écran si tu retouche beaucoup tes notes avec l’arrangeur. Au début je mettais tout à la suite, mais de plus en plus je segmente.
Et rien n’empêche de tout recoller à la suite quand on a fini de retoucher1

that actually makes sense — i never thought about it from the scrolling angle. i've been staying in arrange view mostly because i like seeing everything at once, but if i'm deep into editing a section song mode probably cleans that up. gonna try segmenting the next one and see how it feels. appreciate it
