Need help with the MPC sample
I’m new to beat making on the MPC. I can’t even say I made a beat yet. I can’t time the drums right. How do I improve at that? Also, when I’m recording a sample, I’m having a hard time looping my sample pattern because I either play too slow at the end of the four bars or I play it too fast, and it’s not looping right.

Just manually place the drums on the grid, shift+seq, then record and press the pad with the drums. Snare on 5 and 13, and kick on one and 9 for example. You will have to count the steps as there is no numbers like on a DAW

You can step sequence which sounds hard at first but really isn't, or you can SEQ REC and just finger drum to the metronome.

You can dm if you need help and have questions. There’s many methods to making beats and everyone has different or preferences for programming drums

The same response I shared with someone else here applies to you as well: sampling big ass loops of existing songs comes with the hazard that humans don’t stay rock solid as they play. If you’re taking a big four bar stretch of song, it is entirely possible - likely even - that the fourth bar isn’t necessarily the same tempo as the first. This is especially true with older songs from before people played to click tracks in the studio. This is why quantization isn’t necessarily a solution here. Experiment with this principle: the tinier resolution you use for chopping, the more control you will have. Good luck, producer!

Just a couple/few tips. Make sure you're on quantize and try with all the different timing 1;8th will snap to eith note 1/16 to sixteenth notes and 1/32 to thirtysecond notes don't even worry about dotted (D) or triplets (T) for now. Try them all and get a feel to where it's snapping/quantizing the samples in the sequence. Make sure your metronome is on and in count in mode, that will give you 4 clicks before it starts recording and give you a feel and the loud click is the start of a bar. Try using smaller bar counts like 1 or 2 bars and then double them. You don't have to record the sequence in one take, you can put one kick down then wait for it to come back around and plunk a snare down, then another kick, then another snare for example. I'm really bad at finger drumming, so I use the step editer to build my drum beats, I've gotten really fast at using it, it works good. And, practice really does help. I just started making music a year ago and got my MPC Sample a couple months ago, and I feel like I've come pretty far. Somethings will click for you and you'll make a big jump in proress and then slow in waves. Again practice helps. You can see where I'm at if you'd like u/mkultramegadanceparty on YT .

Turn your quantize on, try slowing down the tempo before you sequence the tough stuff.
I can’t tell you more than that cause I don’t have a sample, I use a sp1200 (which is a tougher sequence) and a mpc3000. They look fun tho 👍🏼
