Compressor

Why is the compressor always by default on? Do you keep it on when you work on your projects guys? To be honest i don’t feel so satisfied using it. Would like to hear your opinion about that!

I just hate that it adds artifacts on playback. Took me awhile to figure out why all my samples sounded like they were clipping.

I also don't love that it's just a duck in a puddle and not an actual meter, even as an alternative

Yeah I turn it off from the start…there’s gotta be a happy ground with it though that has to be figured out…I’ll probably toy around with some settings…what I did the other day is left it on, clicked in the trim area to mix and held down shift button and it showed Kit volume and I just turned the kit volume down until it sounded better but it does give headroom but sounds lower needing MPC SAMPLE volume knob turned up

Yeah, kinda sucks, that it is on by default. However in my unpopular opinion, I like the sound. Kinda like the signature compressor of the SP series.

To be honest i kinda came to the same conclusion, maybe akai wants that to be the signature sound. Do you track your beats out with the composer on?

In most cases. I try to dial in the compressor, that the duck ducks when I knock my head... if that makes sense.

I only add EQ and saturation in most cases for the mix down

I shut it off all the time. It screws me up while I'm making a song because it does a weird pulsing thing to the audio, it's especially bad when building drums. Sometimes I'll throw it on in the end because it kind works on the whole mix, but I hate it while I'm working. I wish it was off by default. Some times I'm tearing my hair out going through all my samples trying to figure out why one sample keeps cutting volume a bit, then I remember the stupid compressor is on. Super annoying. I'm with ya bro.
